Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Forrest Gump's mama went to a lot of trouble so that he could go to a regular school with the other kids. On his first day, Forrest was only able to board the school bus after first talking to the driver. Why was he hesitant about getting on the bus, in "Forrest Gump" (1994)?

Answer: He wasn't supposed to take rides from strangers.

The bus stopped to pick him up, but Forrest just stood there at the door. The driver asked if he was coming along, and Forrest said mama told him not to be taking rides from strangers. When the driver said it was the bus to school, Forrest thought for a moment, and then introduced himself.

The bus driver, Dorothy Harris, introduced herself, and Forrest climbed on after remarking that they weren't strangers anymore. Forrest remembered this about the bus ride on the first day of school, and he also remembered that it was the first time he heard Jenny's voice. Forrest's son later had the same bus driver when he started school.
2. Bruce Willis played a futuristic cab driver who became involved in saving the Earth after a woman fell into his cab. Which movie was this?

Answer: The Fifth Element

Milla Jovovich starred as Leeloo, the fifth element (Love), who was helped by Korben Dallas (Willis) in her mission to retrieve the stones which represented the four elements (water, earth, fire and air). These elements were necessary in order to stop a great evil from destroying the Earth. Gary Oldman, Ian Holm and Chris Tucker also starred in "The Fifth Element" (1997).
3. This cab driver had the misfortune to pick up a passenger named Vincent (Tom Cruise), who turned out to be a hit man with a list of targets in L.A. In "Collateral" (2004), the cab driver, Max, was played by Robin Williams.

Answer: False

The role of Max, who was just driving a cab until he could begin his own business, was played by Jamie Foxx, who earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role. After realizing what Vincent's business was, Max tried to remove himself from the situation, but couldn't. Max was forced to become much more involved when he found out that Vincent's final target was the woman Max had met earlier in the evening.
4. After robbing a bank, Grimm, Phyllis and Loomis (Bill Murray, Geena Davis and Randy Quaid) encountered a bus driver who was a stickler for following rules and keeping to schedules. His request for exact change put Grimm at risk of being seen by the cab driver who could identify them to the police. Which movie was this?

Answer: Quick Change

After successfully robbing a bank, Grimm, Phyllis and Loomis were trying to get to the airport, but encountered difficulties along the way. Their cab driver (played by Tony Shalhoub, who played the endearing cab driver, Antonio, on TV's "Wings") couldn't speak English, so he couldn't understand where they wanted to go. Loomis panicked and jumped out of the moving cab, which brought the police to the scene.

When it looked like Grimm and his friends weren't going to be able to get out of the area, a city bus appeared.

Unfortunately, the driver (Philip Bosco) insisted on exact change, which Grimm didn't have. Racing against the bus driver's scheduled departure time, Grimm managed to get change and they eventually made it to the airport. "Quick Change" was from 1990 and also starred Jason Robards.
5. Richard Pryor played Joe Braxton, an ex-con who was asked to drive a bus from Pennsylvania to Washington, in "Bustin' Loose" (1981). For what kind of group was he the driver?

Answer: Troubled kids

After violating parole, Joe was asked to drive the bus for his parole officer's girlfriend, Vivian (Cicely Tyson), who ran a school for troubled kids. Since the city was cutting off funding for the school, Vivian wanted to take the group of emotionally troubled kids to her family's farm in the state of Washington. Reluctant at first, Joe soon came to care about the kids and what happened to them.
6. In the movie "Airplane!" (1980), which character had the occupation of cab driver?

Answer: Ted Striker

After Elaine left him a break-up note, Ted pursued her to the airport in his cab. Seeing a man get in the cab, Ted said that he'd just be a minute (but he made sure to start the meter before hurrying away). Elaine insisted she was finished with him, so Ted worked up the courage to buy a ticket for her flight in order to speak with her some more. Throughout the movie, while Ted was on the flight, we saw the man still waiting for him to return to the taxi.

After the credits the man was shown again (with the meter still running), saying that he would only give him another twenty minutes to return. Roger Murdock (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) was the co-pilot, Otto (as Himself) was the autopilot, and Victor Basta (Frank Ashmore) was the flight engineer. Ted and Elaine were played by Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty.
7. In "HouseSitter" (1992), Gwen and Newton's (Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin) deceptive plan was just about complete when Gwen realized she loved Newton, and couldn't continue. When Gwen told him she couldn't do it anymore, Newton realized his feelings for her, and went after her. With Gwen's transport waiting, Newton made up a romantic yarn about a mishap which had occurred when he had had himself sent to her on her birthday. Newton lamented that with the delivery mix up, she hadn't even read the note that was included. The driver, who was waiting for Gwen and had been listening, leaned back, peeked around Gwen and asked, "What did the note say?". What kind of driver was this?

Answer: Bus driver

After Gwen lied about being married to Newton so she could live in his abandoned house, Newton saw that he could benefit from the situation and get his old girlfriend, Becky, back. Although the planned argument at their reception was having the desired effect of making Becky feel sorry for Newton, Gwen had developed feelings for Newton and was quite genuinely heartbroken. Newton didn't realize this at first, but after Gwen left he realized he loved her too.

Not as good as Gwen at making up lies, Newton stumbled through a story about the time he had himself sent to Gwen for her birthday, but was delivered to the wrong apartment.

In answer to the bus driver's query about what the note said, Newton replied, "I, I'll tell you what it said. It said, marry me, Gwen, I'm lost without you."
8. In "She's the One" (1996), Mickey Fitzpatrick (Edward Burns) met his future wife, Hope, when he picked her up as a passenger in his cab.

Answer: True

Hope (Maxine Bahns) hopped in Mickey's cab and asked to go to the airport. They flirted on the way and she mentioned that she was going to New Orleans for her friend's wedding. Since she didn't like planes, Hope half-jokingly asked Mickey to drive her to the wedding, which he ended up doing.

When they returned to New York, Mickey announced to his family that he and Hope had gotten married. As Mickey's brother's marriage broke down, Mickey and Hope questioned whether they had made a mistake marrying so hastily.
9. Near the start of their journey to the poker championship, Maverick, Annabelle and Coop were leaving Crystal River on the ferry, in "Maverick" (1994). When Maverick first saw their stagecoach driver come aboard the ferry, what concerned him about the driver?

Answer: He looked very old and frail.

While Maverick was standing outside of the stage, a very old, frail and sickly-looking man walked up. Maverick started to help him get in the passenger section, but the old man stopped him, saying he was the driver. Maverick asked him if he was OK, and the driver said "Why are people always asking me that?".

He did say that they'd never get a move on if Maverick didn't help him up into the driver's seat. Unfortunately, the old man died during the stagecoach journey, forcing Maverick to climb out of the coach and take control of the horses.

After burying the man, Coop said that someone should say something nice about the deceased. Annabelle responded that they didn't know if the man was nice, he only had names of whorehouses in his wallet. Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster and James Garner starred in "Maverick".

The stagecoach driver was played by Paul Brinegar, who played Wishbone on the TV series "Rawhide".
10. This cab driver lost his job after throwing his car keys off the side of a bridge on his way to the airport with a bothersome woman. When he arrived home, his car was repossessed and his girlfriend left him. What would a guy do after a day like this? Join the Army! Which movie was this?

Answer: Stripes

John Winger (Bill Murray) had a bad day at work, which ended up translating to a bad evening at home. He convinced his friend Russell (Harold Ramis) to go to the recruitment center with him, and after answering a few simple questions ("Convicted? No, never convicted."), they were on their way to basic training. "Stripes" (1981) also starred Warren Oates, John Candy and P.J. Soles.
