Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Blood Sugar Sex Magik"
Answer: Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Blood Sugar Sex Magik" was released on September 24, 1991, on the Warner Bros. label. It was the band's fifth album. All the tracks were written by the band except the track "They're Red Hot," which was written by Robert Johnson, who was an American blues musician and songwriter.
Chart-wise, the album peaked at number three on the US Billboard 200 and reached number 25 on the UK Albums Chart.
2. "Californication"
Answer: Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Californication" is the seventh studio album from the band. The album was released on June 8, 1999. The album reached number three on the US Billboard 200 and number five on the UK Albums Chart. Personnel on the album were Anthony Kiedis, John Frusciante, Flea, and Chad Smith. Additional musicians were Greg Kurstin (keyboards) and Patrick Warren (chamberlin organ) on "Road Trippin'".
3. "Stadium Arcadium"
Answer: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Released May 5, 2006, "Stadium Arcadium" was the band's ninth studio album. The album was recorded at The Mansion, Los Angeles (Sound City), Van Nuys, CA studios on the Warner Bros. label. All the songs were written by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Commercially, the album was very successful, reaching the number one position in over 20 countries. On the US Billboard 200, it was the band's first album to reach the top spot.
4. "Master Of Puppets"
Answer: Metallica
"Master of Puppets" is the third studio album by Metallica, released on March 3, 1986. This thrash metal album finished at number 29 on the US Billboard 200 and peaked at number 41 on the UK Albums Chart. The album deals with drug abuse and how it can control you.
Personnel on the album were James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Cliff Burton. Metallica were formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.
5. "Ride The Lightning"
Answer: Metallica
Released on July 27, 1984, this was the band's second studio album. The studio used for the recording was Sweet Silence, Copenhagen, and it was recorded on the Megaforce label. All the lyrics on the album were written by James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett.
Former member of the band Dave Mustaine was given credit for the instrumentals "The Call of Ktulu" and "Ride the Lightning." Kirk Hammett, the lead guitarist, was reading Stephen King's book "The Stand" when he came up with the song's title.
6. "Kill 'Em All"
Answer: Metallica
This was the debut album recorded by Metallica in May 1983 and released in July the same year. The studio used for the album was Music America (Rochester, New York) on the Megaforce label.
One of the songs on the album is "(Anaesthesia) - Pulling Teeth," which is mainly a bass solo played by Cliff Burton.
7. "Escape"
Answer: Journey
Journey recorded the album at the Fantasy (Berkeley) studio between April-June 1981 and was released in the US on July 20, 1981. It was the band's seventh studio album and was on the Columbia label.
Chart-wise, the album reached the top spot on the US Billboard 200 and number 32 on the UK Albums Chart. The album included the track "Don't Stop Believin'," which was released as a single in October 1981. This song is arguably Journey's most well-known and, in my opinion, the best one the band has ever produced.
8. "Frontiers"
Answer: Journey
This was the band's eighth studio album, released in February 1983. This particular album did well in the charts, reaching number two on the US Billboard 200 and going to number six on the UK Albums Chart.
"Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)," the album's opening track, is the best song on the album in my opinion. With amazing guitar and keyboard sections and Steve Perry's voice banging out the vocals, it's undeniably a really strong rock song.
9. "Infinity"
Answer: Journey
The band's breakthrough came with the album "Infinity." Two songs on the album, "Wheel in the Sky" and "Lights," gave the band their distinctive style. Personnel on the album were Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, RossValory, and Aynsley Dunbar.
Journey's major contributions to the music business and their ongoing influence on rock music were acknowledged when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
10. 'The Colour and The Shape'
Answer: Foo Fighters
"The Colour and the Shape" is the second studio album from the Foo Fighters. The album was released on May 20, 1997. Members of the band at the time were Dave Grohl (vocals, guitar, drums), Pat Smear (guitar), and Nate Mendel (bass). The album reached number three on the UK Albums Chart and reached number ten on the US Billboard 200.
This was the first time the Foo Fighters could be called a band, as the first album was done entirely by Dave Grohl. Dave played all the instruments on that album-guitars, bass guitar, drums, and also the vocals. Greg Dulli played an additional guitar on "X-Static.".
11. 'Wasting Light'
Answer: Foo Fighters
"Wasting Light" was one of the best albums commercially. The album topped the charts in 12 countries, including the UK and the US. The album also produced six singles that all made the top 40 in the UK rock charts.
Released on April 12, 2011 in the US, the album was recorded at Dave Grohl's home in Encino, California. As with the band's previous album, "Wasting Light," it was recorded on the Roswell and RCA labels. Roswell is an American record label founded by Dave Grohl in 1995, and RCA is owned by Sony Music Entertainment.
12. "Concrete and Gold"
Answer: Foo Fighters
The band's ninth studio album is titled "Concrete and Gold," released on September 15, 2017.
Commercially, another very successful album from the band, topping the charts in several countries.
Lots of personnel on this album, including 13 guest musicians. Rami Jaffee, who had been involved with the band on seven albums as a session and touring keyboardist, was made a full-time member in 2017.
