1. Who won the Eurovision song contest in 2008?

Answer: Russia

For the first half of the voting it was really a battle between Greece and Russia. But eventually Russia started going ahead and Ukraine took over Greece. The UK finished joint last with Poland and Germany.
2. A notable entry was Spain who sang the song 'El Chiki Chiki' and also scored quite a lot of points. What instrument was the singer playing at the beginning of the song?

Answer: Kiddy's guitar

The UK gave two points to Spain.
3. Ireland's song was sung by a turkey. What was the name of their song?

Answer: Irelande douze points

Ireland's song in English is 'Ireland Twelve Points'. They did not qualify from the semi-final and after their performance there was booing from the audience. Dana International wanted this song banned.
4. How many points did the UK receive?

Answer: 14 points

The UK scored eight points from Ireland and six points from the debut nation San Marino. Other countries that scored fourteen points were Germany and Poland. Poland scored four points from the UK and ten points from Ireland.

The UK, Germany, France and Spain pre-qualified because they contributed the most money towards the contest. Serbia pre-qualified because they won last year. Even though Ireland has won the most times, it doesn't contribute enough to pre-qualify.

Answer: 2

There are two reasons for there being two semi-finals this year. 1)Because the number of countries taking part is quite large. 2)To introduce block voting so certain countries can't vote for neigbours or friendly countries. For example Greece can't vote for Cyprus, and vice-versa.
