The Netherlands won the 2020 contest with "Arcade" by Duncan Laurence. However, due to the Covid-19 global pandemic, the 2020 contest was cancelled and, instead, hosting duties were postponed by a year.

The first Eurovision Song Contest was held on the 24th May 1956. It was held in Lugano, Switzerland at the Teatro Kursaal. There were seven participating countries and the competition was won by Swiss artist Lys Assia with the song "Refrain".

The competition took place in the Globe Arena in Stockholm. Built as the top half of a sphere, it represents the sun in "The Sweden Solar System", a scale model of the solar system which spreads out as far as Kiruna, which represents the point where the solar wind meets outer space. (Okay, astronomers, I know that's a really loose description, but I doubt anyone wants to see the mathematical formulae here!)

The competition took place in the International Convention Center in Jerusalem. The largest convention centre in the Middle East at the time, it was sometimes known as the "National Ruin" for the length of time it took to be completely built.

The contest was held at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. Built in 1991, the arena is one of, if not the, largest indoor venues in Britain.

Originally the contest was to be held in San Remo. However, international tensions led to the decision that Rome would be safer, so at a very late moment the contest was moved to Studio 15 di Cinecittà in Rome, a large film studio which had become government property following its severe financial difficulties.

The contest was held in the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. The hall, named after the composer of the first Croatian opera, took twelve years from groundbreaking to completion due to financial difficulties and flooding.

The competition took place in the Palais de Beaulieu in Lausanne, Switzerland. Built in 1920, the Palais is a convention centre with restaurant, theatre and sports complex.

The 1988 competition was held in the RDS Simmonscourt Pavilion in Dublin, Ireland. The Pavilion is the home of the Royal Dublin Society, founded in 1731.

It was held in the Palais du Centenaire in the Eeuwfeestpaleis in Brussels, Belgium. The Centenary Palace in Heysel Exhibition Park (as it is in English) is one of the few remaining structures from the 1935 World's Fair.

It was held in the Teatro Kursaal in Lugano, Switzerland. Known as the "Monte Carlo of Switzerland", Lugano sits on a lake of the same name and is a popular tourist destination. SSR SRG, the broadcaster, is the Swiss public broadcaster, and while the competition was mostly radio-based, it was also shown on television to those in Europe who had television sets.

The competition took place at the Grosser Sendesaal des Hessischen Rundfunks in Frankfurt, Germany. Deutsches Fernsehen ARD was the host television company, although most of the audience still were listening on radio rather than television. Deutches Fernsehen ARD, now known as "Das Erste" ("The First"), is a German public television station, and first broadcast nationwide on 1 November 1954.

The competition was held in the AVRO Studios in Hilversum, Netherlands. AVRO is the Netherlands' public broadcasting system. Hilversum is a nexus for the media, with many different broadcasters operating from the town.

The Netherlands should have held it, but declined, so the UK stepped in to help. The competition was held in the Royal Festival Hall in London, England. Built for the 1951 Festival of Britain, the Hall was the first post-war Grade I listed building. It is the home of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The competition was held in the Palais des Festivals et des Congres in Cannes, France. Built in 1949, it hosted the Cannes Film Festival until a newer building was completed in 1982.

It was held in Luxembourg. The venue was the Villa Louvigny, headquarters for the Luxembourg television company.

France actually won the prior year's competition, and therefore should have hosted the event. However, they felt it too soon after hosting the 1961 contest, so Britain stepped in and did the honours at the BBC Television Centre in London.

The competition was held in Copenhagen, at the Tivolis Koncertsal. The Tivolis, according to (you guessed it) the Google translation from its own website, "is a historic and unique concert hall, which is world renowned for its good acoustic. In 2005, the Concert Hall, which was built in 1953, an extensive renovation and was in this context include en a beautiful new sound to be in gold leaf." I don't know about you, but I'd love to see sound in gold leaf! In its latest renovation, in a foyer under the seats, the longest salt-water aquarium in Europe now occupies one side.

Answer: Naples

The competition was held at the Sala di Concerto della RAI in Naples. Built (apparently, this is from another Wikipedia translation of the "English as she is sometime spoke" variety) in the late 1950s and early 1960s, it opened in 1963 as a radio and television broadcasting station. It also apparently holds the largest pipe organ in Italy.

Answer: Luxembourg

The contest was held in the Villa Louvigny, headquarters of the Luxembourg television company. This was the second time this venue had been used, the prior time being 1962. Villa Louvigny apparently had been the home of a wealthy Luxembourg family prior to its being turned into a corporate headquarters.
