After ending his EMI/Capitol contract with the "Extra Texture (Read All About It") album, George Harrison signed with Dark Horse records distributed by A&M. He was supposed to deliver the "Thirty Three & 1/3"album by the 25th June 1976 but was stricken with hepatitis and was only able to start recording the album in late May.

He told A&M that the album would be ready when it was ready but they sued him for late delivery of "Thirty Three & 1/3". Dark Horse records and Harrison then switched to Warner Brothers records. Included on the album is the song "This Song", it was a send-up of the "He's So Fine" vs "My Sweet Lord" court case which George Harrison lost in 1976.

He had seven further Billboard Hot 100 hits between 1962 and 1974 and scored over 60 hits on the Billboard country chart between 1962 and 1986.
