Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen)

Answer: Galileo

"Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me
(Galileo) Galileo, (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo Figaro, magnifico."

"Bohemian Rhapsody" is one of the most well-known songs of all time, yet the lyrics are commonly misheard. It's not "anywhere the wind blows", but "any way the wind blows". Not "So you think you can stop me", but "so you think you can stone me". Not "pool boy", but "poor boy".
2. "California Gurls" (Katy Perry)

Answer: popsicle

"California girls, we're unforgettable
Daisy Dukes, bikinis on top
Sun-kissed skin, so hot
We'll melt your popsicle
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh."

"California Gurls" is not to be confused with the popular Beach Boys song "California Girls". Bot of these songs were big hits, and they were released 45 years apart from each other, in 2010 and 1965 respectively.
3. "All The Small Things" (blink-182)

Answer: windmill

"Say it ain't so, I will not go
Turn the lights off, carry me home
Keep your head still, I'll be your thrill
The night will go on, my little windmill."

The music video parodies popular music videos of the era, such as Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way", and Ricky Martin's "Livin' la Vida Loca".
4. "Hey Ya!" (Outkast)

Answer: Polaroid

"Shake it, sh-shake it, shake it, shake it, sh-shake it (uh-oh)
Shake it like a Polaroid picture, hey ya!"

"Hey Ya!" is featured on the double album "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below", which was originally planned as two solo albums. Arista Records decided to combine the efforts into one.
5. "Don't Stop Believin'" (Journey)

Answer: streetlights

"Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlights, people"

"Don't Stop Believin'" is unusual in that its chorus arrives at the end of the song, after all of the verses and pre-choruses have been sung.
It has been fully or partially performed six different times in the television show "Glee".
6. "Hollaback Girl" (Gwen Stefani)

Answer: bananas

"Lemme hear you say
'This [expletive] is bananas'
B-A-N-A-N-A-S"

Even though they go into a grocery store, there are no actual bananas featured in the music video. There are images of bananas during the cheerleader scenes, however.
"Hollaback Girl" was the first song to ever sell a million copies in legal downloads.
7. "Only Wanna Be With You" (Hootie & The Blowfish)

Answer: Dolphins

"Sometimes you're crazy
And you wonder why
I'm such a baby
'Cause the Dolphins make me cry"

The Miami Dolphins is the reference here, as they struggled to make the playoffs in this era. As singer Darius Rucker was a fan of the team, his disappointment with their performance found its way into the song as an expression of vulnerability.
8. "...Baby One More Time" (Britney Spears)

Answer: loneliness

"My loneliness is killin' me (and I)
I must confess, I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you, I lose my mind, give me a sign
Hit me, baby, one more time"

"...Baby One More Time" is Britney Spears' debut single. The line "my loneliness is killin' me" is echoed later in the Britney Spears song "Stronger" yet slightly altered to be "my loneliness ain't killing me no more."
9. "Good Vibrations" (The Beach Boys)

Answer: excitations

"I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations (oom bop-bop)"

The song features an electro-theremin, which mimics the sound of a theremin, but is not played the same way. The electro-theremin was also used in the Beach Boys' songs "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" and "Wild Honey".
10. "Baba O'Riley" (The Who)

Answer: wasteland

"Teenage wasteland
It's only teenage wasteland
Teenage wasteland
Oh, yeah
Teenage wasteland
They're all wasted!"

The title comes from the last names of two men: Meher Baba, an Indian spiritual master, and Terry Riley, an American composer and musician. They were two of songwriter Pete Townshend's inspirations.
11. "Super Freak" (Rick James)

Answer: kinky

"She's a very kinky girl
The kind you don't take home to mother
She will never let your spirits down
Once you get her off the street, ow, girl"

"Super Freak" was sampled by MC Hammer in "U Can't Touch This", Jay-Z in "Kingdom Come", Black Eyed Peas in "Vida Loca", and Nicki Minaj in "Super Freaky Girl".
12. "All About That Bass" (Meghan Trainor)

Answer: treble

"Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble"

The song relates "bass" to people of larger stature, and it is an anthem for loving and enjoying your size. It encourages body positivity and self-acceptance.
13. "Love Shack" (The B-52's)

Answer: rusted

"Bang, bang (on the door, baby)
Bang, bang (you're what?)
Tin roof, rusted"

Members of the band sang on the theme song for Nickelodeon's "Rocko's Modern Life".
They also sang the title song for the "Flintstones" live-action movie.
In 2008, The B-52's changed their name to "The B-52s", taking out the apostrophe.
14. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (Nirvana)

Answer: mosquito

"With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino
A mosquito, my libido"

Nirvana only has three full-length studio albums. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is from the album "Nevermind". It is said that singer Kurt Cobain grew tired of the song and didn't want to play it live.
15. "Let It Go" (Idina Menzel)

Answer: fractals

"My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I'm never goin' back, the past is in the past"

"Let It Go" won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Sung for the movie "Frozen", this song is written Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, a married couple. They also wrote songs for the films "Coco", "Winnie the Pooh", and "Frozen II".
