One of them is that it's about a man grieving the loss of his brother who died in a plane crash on his annual trip to Spain. The song "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" was originally penned by singer-songwriter Bobby Russell. He didn't like it but his wife Vicki Lawrence was impressed with it, and thought Bobby was dead wrong about the song's potential, so she recorded it herself in 1973.

It hit number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Reba McEntire released it in 1992 and it went to number twelve on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, with Jeff Hanna (founder 1966), his son, Jaime Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, Ross Holmes and Jim Photoglo. This song, "Fishing In The Dark", was number one on Country Music Billboards and is the band's signature song.

The song "Me And Little Andy" is about a little girl and her puppy dog. They showed up during a storm knocking on the singer's door and asking if they could come inside. Her parents were both struggling with addiction and had been into a violent fight.

The little girl had gotten her puppy dog and ran off to find somewhere safe to stay. The little girl and her puppy dog both passed away while they slept that night. Dolly Parton was performing at a night club in Las Vegas when, as she tells the story: "So I was singing this sad song, and so this old drunk was in Vegas; I guess he'd come there to have a good time, and he came in to see my show, and I started singing that song, and he (laughing) sat, and he hollered out, 'Do you have to sing that GD sad ass song?' It was bad enough the kid died. Did you have to kill the dog?'" Dolly decided right then not to perform the song in a night club again!

"Night Moves" is a Bob Seger song inspired by Bruce Springsteen and Kris Kristofferson. It has been credited with launching Seger's career into mainstream. It peaked at number four on Billboard Hot 100.

"Long Black Veil" is a 1959 country ballad, written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell. It's a song told from the point of view of a man falsely accused of murder and executed. He refuses to provide an alibi, since on the night of the murder he was having an affair with his best friend's wife, and would rather die and take their secret to his grave than admit the truth.

The chorus describes the woman's mourning visits to his gravesite, wearing a long black veil and enduring a wailing wind, but she never tells anyone that she's his alibi.
