Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Last Waltz

Engelbert's second album, issued November 25, 1967 in the UK and the U.S., just weeks after the first, "Release Me", leads off with his second number one single. "The Last Waltz", by Les Reed and Barry Mason spent a total of twenty-seven weeks on the British Singles chart (August 29, 1967 to February 27, 1968), five of them at number one, from September to October 1967. The album entered the British charts on November 25, 1967, staying there for thirty-three weeks to July 6, 1968 and peaking at number three.

In the United States, the single had a Billboard Hot 100 chart run of nine weeks, starting September 23, 1967 and peaking at number 25 on November 4. Meanwhile, on the Adult Contemporary chart, the single debuted September 23, 1967 and peaked at number six on November 11, having a total run on this chart of fourteen weeks. The album entered the BILLBOARD 200 on December 23, 1967. Staying on the chart for a total of sixty weeks, it peaked at number ten on February 3, 1968.
2. After the Lovin'

"After the Lovin'" by Ritchie Adams and Alan Bernstein debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 October 23, 1976. Peaking on January 22, 1977 at number eight, the single stayed on this chart a total of nineteen weeks. It entered the Adult Contemporary chart September 11, 1976 for a chart run of twenty-six weeks, reaching number one for two weeks on December 4, 1976.

The album started a twenty-eight week run on the Billboard 200 on November 27, 1976. It reached a peak position of number 17 on February 5, 1977. Neither the single nor the album charted in Britain.
3. This Moment in Time

"This Moment in Time", written by Ritchie Adams and Alan Bernstein, did not appear on the Billboard Hot 100. It did, however, make an eighteen-week stay on the Adult Contemporary chart, starting November 11, 1978. It held the number one spot for two weeks, starting January 20, 1979. The album did not appear on the Billboard 200. Neither the single nor the album charted in Britain.
4. Getting Sentimental

Engelbert's 1985 album of evergreen standards, "Getting Sentimental", entered the British album chart on April 5, 1985 for a run of ten weeks. The album peaked at number 35. It did not chart in the U.S.
5. Love Unchained

In 1995, Engelbert released another album mostly comprised of evergreen standards, "Love Unchained". It entered the British album chart June 10, 1995. Over a six week chart run, the album peaked at number 16. It did not chart in the U.S.
6. The Dance Album

1998's "The Dance Album" was a departure for the King of Romance, seeing Engelbert apply the Electronic and Dance music fads to new material and a few vintage songs. Among the latter was "Quando Quando Quando", with a spoken interlude in Spanish and an up-to-date beat.

The single entered the British charts on January 1, 1999, staying for three weeks and peaking at number 40. Interestingly, Pat Boone's original single of "Quando Quando Quando" was on the same chart for four weeks starting May 30, 1962, and reached number 41. "The Dance Album" did not appear on British or American charts.
7. Greatest Hits & More

In 2007, the double CD "Greatest Hits & More" offered long time favorites like "Dance the Night Away" and "Winter World of Love" together with new classics such as "Can't You See" and "Jerusalem". Though not charting in the U.S., the album spent four weeks on the British album chart and peaked at number 21.
8. Engelbert Calling

In 2014, Engelbert released his first ever all duets album. Issued both as a single disc and as a 2-CD deluxe edition, "Engelbert Calling" paired "the world's most romantic singing star" with other luminaries like Johnny Mathis, Cliff Richard, Dionne Warwick and Olivia Newton-John (to name only my favorites), along with his daughter Louise and son Bradley. Spending four weeks on the British album chart, "Engelbert Calling" peaked at number 31.
9. The Man I Want to Be

In 2017, while his retrospective "50" was enjoying a six week chart run and peaking at number five in Britain, Engelbert was looking forward rather than back. With the exception of "Crazy", "On Broadway" and "Welcome to My World", the album he released that year, "The Man I Want to Be", contains all contemporary songs, like Ed Sheeran's "Photograph " and Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are" as well as Les Reed and Geoff Stephens' lovely "Our England".
10. All About Love

As Engelbert says, it's hard to find good songs. None of the material on his 2023 album "All about Love" is original, though he has previously recorded only "Take Me Back Again" and "A Man without Love". The disc includes two duets, the aforementioned "A Man without Love" with Mexican singing star Angélica María and "Bésame Mucho" with rising mariachi, norteño and ranchera star Lupita Infante, as well as such favorites as the evergreen standard "I Only Have Eyes for You", the Lou Rawls hit "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" and a touching rendition of The Bee Gees' "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart". Issued on May 2, 2023 (Engelbert's eighty-seventh birthday), "All about Love" had not charted when this quiz was written in June, 2023.
