Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song is this? "So still, this cloud, it hangs over us and we're alone".

Answer: Some Day, One Day

"Some Day, One Day" is the fourth song on the "Queen II" album, featuring Brian May, the lead guitarist, on lead vocals. Brian is also the writer of the song.
2. What song is this line from? "Dislocate your spine if you don't sign he says, I'll have you seeing double."

Answer: Flick Of The Wrist

"Flick Of The Wrist" is written and sung by Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of the band. It was released as a double A-side single with "Killer Queen" from the "Sheer Heart Attack" album.
3. What song are these lyrics from? "Tomorrow comes, tomorrow brings, tomorrow brings love in the shape of things".

Answer: Funny How Love Is

The second to last song on "Queen II", this is a sort of mellow song by Freddie. The song was never performed live, largely due to the demanding high-register vocals from Freddie throughout the song.
4. "What is left of your dream? Just the words on your stone. A man who learned how to teach, then forgot how to learn." What song is this from?

Answer: White Man

"White Man" was written by Brian about the suffering of Native Americans at the hands of European immigrants. As the seventh song on the "A Day At The Races" album, it is one of Queen's heaviest works, thematically and musically.
5. What song is this? "With the desire to carry on, don't you know honey, that love's a game?"

Answer: Misfire

"Misfire" was John Deacon, the bassist's, first composition, released on the "Sheer Heart Attack" album in 1974. John played most of the guitars including the solo, and Freddie sang all the vocals.
Neko Case performed a country version of the song on her 1997 solo début album, "The Virginian."
6. "Mama's got a problem. She don't know what to say. Her little baby boy's just left home today." Which song?

Answer: The Loser In The End

"The Loser in the End" was Roger Taylor, the drummer's, sole contribution on the "Queen II" album both as a songwriter and lead vocalist. It features very fun percussion in the beginning, as well as falsettos from Roger at the end of every chorus.
7. What song is this from? "Bring out the charge of the love brigade, there is spring in the air once again. Drink to the sound of the song parade, there is music and love everywhere."

Answer: The Millionaire Waltz

"The Millionaire Waltz" was written by Freddie about John Reid (Queen and Elton John's manager at the time). It features a noteworthy example of John's 'lead bass' playing, and includes Brian doing multi-tracked guitar choirs. It was on the "A Day At The Races" album.
8. What song are these lyrics from? "Told my girl I have to forget her, rather buy me a new carburetor"

Answer: I'm In Love With My Car

"I'm in Love with My Car" is one of Roger's most famous songs, featured on the "A Night At The Opera" album. The revving sounds at the end of the song were recorded by Roger's car, an Alfa Romeo. The lyrics were inspired by one of the band's roadies, Johnathan Harris, whose Triumph TR4 was evidently the "love of his life".

The song is dedicated to him; the album says: "Dedicated to Johnathan Harris, boy racer to the end". When it came down to releasing the album's first single, Roger was so fond of his song that he urged Freddie (author of the first single, "Bohemian Rhapsody") to allow it to be the B-side and locked himself in a cupboard until Freddie agreed.
9. The lyrics "Keep your chin up when you're feeling lonely. Don't let them get you down" are from which song?

Answer: If You Can't Beat Them

"If You Can't Beat Them" was another hard rock composition by John and was from the "Jazz" album. It was also a live favourite for the band in the late '70s. It is one of the few songs by John where Brian plays all the guitars and contains a guitar solo of over two minutes, making it one of the longest guitar solos in a Queen song.
10. "I was told a million times of all the troubles in my way" is from which song?

Answer: Keep Yourself Alive

Brian wrote "Keep Yourself Alive" on the "Queen" album after the band had been formed, but before John Deacon joined. Brian had penned the lyrics thinking of them as ironic and tongue-in-cheek, but their sense was completely changed when Freddie sang them. Roger and Brian sing the vocal bridge of the song. Freddie might have helped on the musical arrangements based on the fact that they were in a more collaborative period in the pre-studio days and Freddie was usually the one getting his way with structural ideas.

While it is highly possible that he contributed ideas to the song (the modulation types and the expanded form are closer to his style than to Brian's), the bottom line is that even in that case Freddie would be more a co-arranger than a co-writer per se (like George Martin on The Beatles' songs).
11. "You know I never could see where life was leading me. But will we be together forever? What will be my love? Can't you see that I just don't know" What song is this?

Answer: You And I

"You and I" is John's song on the "A Day At The Races" album. It features him on acoustic guitar and Freddie playing Elton John-esque piano parts. The song was never played live. Nevertheless, it's an incredible and beautiful song in my opinion. :)
12. What song? "Everybody in the morning should do a good turn all right. Everybody in the night time should have a good time all night."

Answer: Fun It

"Fun It" was a funk track on the "Jazz" album, with a disco vibe by Roger, where both he and Freddie shared the vocals. Roger did the lead vocals, while Freddie was backup. Roger used Syndrum pads and played most of the instruments. It can be seen a precursor to "Another One Bites the Dust", especially with the intro of this track.
13. What song are these lyrics from? "Well, you're just seventeen and all you want to do is disappear".

Answer: Sheer Heart Attack

"Sheer Heart Attack" was half-finished at the time of the 1974 album of the same name, yet released on the "News Of The World" album. Roger sang lead on the demo but for the definitive version the band decided Freddie should sing lead vocals, with Roger singing the chorus. Rhythm guitar and bass were played by Roger, apart from some guitar "screams" by Brian during the instrumental section.
14. "Don't take it away from me because you don't know what it means to me". What song is this from?

Answer: Love Of My Life

"Love of My Life" was written for Freddie's girlfriend at the time, Mary Austin, and is one of his most covered songs, released on the "A Night At The Opera" album. Freddie played piano and did all of the vocals with startling multi-tracking precision. Brian played harp, Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar (which he'd bought in Japan) and his Red Special. "Love of My Life" was such a concert favourite that Freddie frequently stopped singing and allowed the audience to take over.

It was especially well received during concerts in South America, and the band released the song as a single there.

When Queen and Paul Rodgers performed the song (specifically Brian solo) he sang almost none of the words and let the audience sing it all, continuing the tradition.

Many people don't understand why it didn't make it to a "Greatest Hits" album, being one of Queen's most well-received songs. Personally, I don't understand it myself.
15. What song is this? "Think that you know what you're doing? You think you're gonna set things to rights?"

Answer: Fight From The Inside

"Fight from the Inside" was written and sung by Roger on the "News Of The World" album. In addition to the drums, Roger also plays rhythm and bass guitar, the latter borrowed from John himself.
The track is built around a jangly guitar riff and is amongst the first in the Queen catalogue to focus predominantly on the drums and bass, as opposed to the lead guitars. It is also the only song in the band's discography recorded almost entirely by one member (Brian contributed additional guitar).
Guitarist Slash has cited the guitar riff to this song as one of his favourite riffs of all time.
