Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1989, who was Richard Marx "Right Here Waiting" for?

Answer: You

Although looking back on Richard Marx's fashion style from the late 1980, I'd like to think he was waiting for a haircut but alas, he was "right here waiting for you".

"Right Here Waiting" was recorded on Marx's second album, "Repeat Offender" - there is no reference as to whether or not the offence was the bad haircut though... According to Wikipedia, the song was written by Marx for his wife who was abroad at the time working in South Africa.
2. Jeremy Jordan first released the song "The Right Kind of Love" on which popular (at the time - 1992) TV show's soundtrack?

Answer: Beverly Hills 90210

Be still, my mid-teenage heart! I had posters of Jeremy Jordan on my bedroom walls and got to watch him every night before I feel asleep - aaah, the life of a teenager...

"The Right Kind of Love" was then released on Jordan's debut album, "Try My Love" in 1993. If my memory serves me correctly the film clip was shot on an outdoor basketball court with an open-shirted Jordan singing his heart out - oh the teenage fantasies! The song did reach the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, peaking at number fourteen.
3. Long before he was shot and killed by his father (in the mid-1980s), which singer released "Right On" in 1971?

Answer: Marvin Gaye

"Right On" was written by Gaye and Earl DeRouen and was released on the album "What's Going On", in 1971. 'Right On Productions' was a production company formed by Gaye not long after the release of the song. Music on the song track was performed by The Funk Brothers and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
4. "Right Place, Wrong Time" seems a popular song title. Which of the following performers did NOT release a song with this title?

Answer: The Beatles

The song "Right Place, Wrong Time" appeared on Dr John's 'In the Right Place' (1973) album, Screaming Jets' 'Heart of the Matter' (2004) album, Soul Position's '8 Million Stories' (2003) album, Avant's 'Director' (2006) album and is the name of an album by Otis Rush (1976).

The Beatles didn't release a song or album with this title and I'd guess that it was more likely that they were in the right place at the right time, rather than the wrong time!
5. "All the Right Moves" was released off the album 'Waking Up' (2009-10). Which band (formed in 2003) released this song and album?

Answer: OneRepublic

'Waking Up' was released in 2009, and "All the Right Moves" was (in most countries) the first single released off the album. "All the Right Moves" debuted at 58 on the US Billboard Hot 100 towards the end of October 2009 before falling to 85, then climbing its way back to its highest placement, at 18.
6. "Right Round" was released in 2009 by Flo Rida, but which other artist performed vocals on the track?

Answer: Ke$ha

Released in 2009 by Poe Boy Entertainment and Atlantic Records, "Right Round" also samples the Dead or Alive song "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" (1984). Although Ke$ha contributed to the vocals on the track, she was not credited for it on the initial chart run.
7. "The Right Stuff" was the sub-title of which New Kids on the Block song, released in 1988?

Answer: You Got It

One of those late 80s tracks that still gets me bopping along if it ever makes its way to radio, "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" was released on cassette (remember those?), CD and (vinyl) record (do you remember those as well?) in late 1988. The song peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in 1989 and was from the album 'Hanging' Tough' - where it was titled "The Right Stuff".
8. Another popular song title, "Right Here, Right Now" was performed by each of the following artists, except one. Which one?

Answer: Nirvana

The Fatboy Slim version of "Right Here, Right Now" was released on the 'You've Come a Long Way, Baby' album in 1999, the Jesus Jones version on the album 'Doubt' was released in 1990, and the "High School Musical" version (performed by Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens) from the 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year' soundtrack was released in 2010.

Alvin and the Chipmunks recorded a cover of the Jesus Jones song for a 2007 video game and the High School Musical version has been recorded and released in several different languages (although by other artists).
9. "Am I Right?" (1991-2) was written and performed by Vince Clarke and Andy Bell - by what name are these two collectively known?

Answer: Erasure

Englishmen Vince Clarke (songwriter and keyboardist) and Andy Bell (singer and songwriter) make up the synthpop duo Erasure. They formed in the mid-1980s and have had great chart success. "Am I Right?" was released off the 1991 album "Chorus".
10. "Right on Track" was released in 1986 by which group, having a similar name to a very well-known movie also released in the mid 1980s (starring Molly Ringwald and Judd Nelson, among others)?

Answer: Breakfast Club

All of the answer options are band names inspired by movie titles. In this instance, it's unlikely that Breakfast Club was inspired by the movie 'The Breakfast Club' (1985), as they formed in the late 1970s. Madonna was the drummer for Breakfast Club in the early 1980s, and was 'allowed' to sing some lead vocals before leaving to form her own group Emmy and the Emmys.

Breakfast Club only released one album and a handful of singles, with "Right on Track" giving them their biggest chart success - making it to number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
