Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The single 'It's All Wrong, But It's All Right' was released by which singer who also co-owns an amusement theme park named after her?

Answer: Dolly Parton

Country singer Dolly Parton released her first album entitled 'Hello, I'm Dolly' in 1967 and has had a long and successful career, with at least 25 singles reaching number one on the Billboard country charts

She has won many awards, including at least eleven Grammys, and entered the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. In addition she has acted in a number of films, such as 'Steel Magnolias' (1989). She is also involved in several business ventures, including the theme park Dollywood.

In 1977 'It's All Wrong, But It's All Right' was released on a double A-sided single with 'Two Doors Down' on the other side. Both songs were originally on the album 'Here You Come Again' (1977). 'It's All Wrong, But It's All Right' was the side credited with reaching the top position in both the US and the Canadian country singles charts.
2. Brothers Eddie and Alex were two of the founders of which group, who released the single 'Right Now'? Hearing it may have made their fans 'jump' around.

Answer: Van Halen

The band was formed some years earlier under a different name but gradually evolved to become Van Halen in 1974. Their first album was also entitled 'Van Halen' and attained number nineteen in the Billboard charts.

A later album, '1984' (1984), was their most successful, receiving five platinum awards, while one single released from this album, 'Jump', became the band's best-known and most successful song.

'Right Now' was initially included on their 1991 album 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge' and was not a major success as a single but was used in a commercial for Crystal Pepsi.
3. 'Well, All Right! (Tonight's The Night)' was sung by which American close harmony group that was made up of three sisters?

Answer: The Andrews Sisters

LaVerne, Maxene and Patty (Patricia) were the names of the Andrews Sisters, who were known for singing in close harmony and were especially popular during the swing and boogie-woogie eras of the late 1930s and the 1940s.

They had a number of hit singles, including probably their best known song, 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy', which was released in 1941. 'Well, All Right! (Tonight's The Night)' was less well known but when it came out in 1939 it went to number five in the US chart.

The Andrews Sisters seem to have had a fair amount of influence on other contemporary and later groups and singers. For instance, Christina Aguilera's 2007 song 'Candyman' was apparently inspired by 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy'. When the Vocal Group Hall of Fame opened in 1998 the group were among the first inductees and they also received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in October 1987.
4. Which English band had their biggest success with the song 'All Right Now', even though people had to pay for the record?

Answer: Free

Free was an English rock band formed in London in 1968 and their third album 'Fire and Water' was their first big success, reaching number two on the UK Albums chart in 1970. They recorded a few more albums but disbanded in 1973. However, a number of compilation albums have been released over the decades, some of which reached the UK album charts.

The song 'All Right Now' was originally included on 'Fire and Water' and then was released as a single in 1970 when it was a big hit for the group, reaching number two on the UK singles chart, number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and entering the music charts of several other countries.

The song was released again in 1973, and this time reached number fifteen on the UK singles chart. Its third release, as a remixed single this time, reached number eight on the UK singles chart.

Answer: Rod Stewart

The Dimensions was the first band Rod Stewart joined in 1963 then he moved on to other groups, eventually joining the group The Faces in 1969. He was also a successful solo singer and from 1975 he concentrated on his solo career. Released in 1971, 'Maggie May' was his first big single and it topped the charts in the UK, US, Canada and Australia.

Carl Hampton, Homer Banks, and Raymond Jackson wrote the song '(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want To Be Right'. It was originally written for the group The Emotions and was later released as a single by other artists, such as Luther Ingram and Millie Jackson in 1972 and 1974 respectively.

Rod Stewart then included it on his 1977 album, 'Foot Loose & Fancy Free'. The album did very well in the Australian, Dutch and USA album charts and was certified platinum in several countries. The song itself was only later released as a single and rose to number 23 on the UK Singles Chart in 1980.

He started using the name Fatboy Slim professionally in 1996 and has appeared at a number of music festivals over the years as well as presenting radio programmes.

'Right Here, Right Now' includes samples from other songs and in 1999 was the fourth single from his 1998 album, 'You've Come a Long Way, Baby', to be released, reaching number two in the UK singles chart. In 2019 he remixed the song to include part of a speech by climate change activist Greta Thunberg to the United Nations.

Avicii was a Swedish DJ and musician and David Guetta is a French one while Tony Blackburn is an English DJ who started as a singer then became a DJ in 1964. He is mainly known as a radio DJ although he did win the very first of the television reality shows 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!' in 2002.

Answer: Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell

The song 'When Love Goes Wrong Nothing Goes Right' appeared in the 1953 film 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' and was sung by Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell. Both were mainly actresses and, although it was Jane Russell who was also an occasional professional singer, Marilyn Monroe was the one who sang 'Happy Birthday' to President John F Kennedy in Madison Square Gardens in 1962.

Both ladies were models before becoming film actresses and both appeared in quite a large number of films. Marilyn Monroe's finished films ranged from the 1947 'Dangerous Years' to the 1961 'The Misfits'. Jane Russell's career in films started in the 1943 'The Outlaw' and went on until the 1970 'Darker Than Amber'. Both ladies also won several awards and they left their handprints on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at the same time.

Marilyn Monroe was married three times, including to baseball star Joe DiMaggio and to playwright Arthur Miller. Jane Russell too was married three times, with one husband being Bob Waterfield, a professional football quarterback.

Answer: LeAnn Rimes

LeAnn Rimes started singing professionally when she was young and toured with her father, who also started recording her. Billy Mack, a disc jockey and record producer, then 'discovered' her and her first major success came when she recorded his composition, 'Blue', which was first included on a 1994 album and then on a 1996 album, also named 'Blue'.

The album 'Blue' did very well, reaching number one on the Top Country Albums chart and number three on the Billboard 200 albums chart and eventually selling a total of over eight million copies worldwide. In 1997 LeAnn won three Grammy awards when her version of the single 'Blue' was named Best Female Country Vocal Performance and she also won the Best New Artist category (becoming the first Country music artist to do so) and the Best Country Song award.

The song 'The Right Kind Of Wrong' was one of four songs that LeAnn Rimes recorded under her own name for the soundtrack to the 2000 film 'Coyote Ugly', in which she also had a cameo role. Beastie Boys recorded their first studio album, 'Licensed to Ill', in 1986 and it was the first rap album to reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over nine million copies and becoming one of the best-selling rap albums of that decade.

In 1987 '(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)' was the fourth of a total of seven singles from 'Licensed to Ill' to be released and it became the group's most successful single, rising to number seven in the US Billboard Hot 100.
