Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

FYI - All incorrect songs were from 1965.

1. "Love Will Keep Us Together" (Captain & Tennille) was written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. In 2009, Neil Sedaka re-recorded a spoof of his song, renaming it "Lunch Will Keep Us Together" for his first children's CD, "Waking Up Is Hard to Do".

2. "Rhinestone Cowboy" (Glen Campbell) was written by Larry Weiss. It was one of six songs released in 1975 that topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Singles charts. It was joined by "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" by Freddy Fender, "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" by B. J. Thomas, "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" and "I'm Sorry" and "Calypso," both by John Denver, and "Convoy" by C. W. McCall.

3. "Philadelphia Freedom" (Elton John) was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. The B-side, "I Saw Her Standing There", is a live recording of the Elton John Band with John Lennon at Madison Square Garden in November 1974. It was the last of three songs John and Lennon sang together that night - the performance would be Lennon's last concert appearance.

4. "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" (Freddy Fender) was written by Vivian Keith and Ben Peters. It was certified gold for selling one million units and also won the Single of the Year award from the Country Music Association.

5. "My Eyes Adored You" (Frankie Valli) was written by Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan. The single was Valli's first number-one hit as a solo artist on Billboard's Hot 100. Although it was released as a Valli solo, it is sometimes included on Four Seasons compilation albums.

6. "Some Kind of Wonderful" (Grand Funk) is a song written by John Ellison. Grand Funk recorded the song for their album "All the Girls in the World Beware!!!". A version by Huey Lewis and the News charted in 1994.

7. "Shining Star" (Earth, Wind & Fire) was written by Maurice White, Larry Dunn and Philip Bailey. The song hit number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the Billboard Hot Soul Songs chart. It also won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

8. "Fame" (David Bowie) was written by David Bowie, Carlos Alomar and former Beatle John Lennon. John Lennon also contributed backing vocals and guitar on the song. The song was a big commercial success in North America, becoming Bowie's first number-one single on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the Canadian Singles Chart.

9. "Laughter in the Rain" (Neil Sedaka) was composed by Neil Sedaka with lyrics by Phil Cody. Cody claims to have written the lyrics in about five minutes after smoking marijuana and falling asleep under a tree for a couple of hours. The song includes a 20-second saxophone solo by Jim Horn.

10. "One of These Nights" (Eagles) was written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey. The song became their second single to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart after "Best of My Love". According to Frey, he was listening to some Spinners and Al Green records when he got the idea for the song.

11. "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" (John Denver) was written by John Martin Sommers. It was one of the six songs released in 1975 that topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Singles charts.

12. "Jive Talkin'" (Bee Gees) was written by Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb. Largely recognized as the "comeback" song for the group, it was their first US top-10 hit since "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" (1971). It also appeared on the 1977 "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack.

13. "Best of My Love" (Eagles) was written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and J. D. Souther. It became the band's first Billboard Hot 100 number-one single in March 1975. Frey was reluctant to release "Best of My Love" as a single until radio DJ Jim Higgs from Kalamazoo MI began playing the track off its parent album "On the Border" which ultimately led to its being released as a single.

14. "Lovin' You" (Minnie Riperton) was written by Minnie Riperton and Richard Rudolph. Rudolph began composing "Lovin' You" while he and Riperton were living in Chicago. The couple later moved to Florida, where work continued after their daughter Maya was born. Riperton developed the final melody, while Rudolph wrote the lyrics and the bridge. Notably, Riperton's vocals on the song span from C♯4 to F♯6.

15. "Kung Fu Fighting" (Carl Douglas) was written by Jamaican vocalist Carl Douglas. The song over time went on to sell 11 million records worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time. The tune was covered by CeeLo Green with Jack Black and The Vamps for the Kung Fu Panda movie franchise.
