Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
Psalm 23 is one of 150 psalms found in the Bible book of the same name. The psalms are generally regarded as being a collection of Hebrew hymns. In Jewish tradition, this psalm is sung during the third meal of the Shabbat and is commonly used when someone dies and at funeral services. In more recent times the psalm has also become popular to use in Christian funeral services. In Christianity, the image of God as shepherd and humans as his flock, whom he must watch over, is a common one with the term "Good Shepherd" being applied to Jesus Christ in the Gospel of John.
The text of this psalm has been set to music many times and is the basis for the Christian hymn 'The Lord's My Shepherd', which was first published in the 1650 Scottish Psalter. A version of the psalm set to music by the composer Howard Goodall was used as the theme music for the 1990s British sitcom 'The Vicar of Dibley' about a small village parish and their female clergywoman.
