Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Genesis, who was the world's first woman?

Answer: Eve

Eve, the wife of Adam, is the correct answer. According to Genesis 3:20, Adam named his wife Eve because she would become the mother of all living. Eve gave birth to Cain, Abel and Seth and she is believed to have been the mother of a number of other sons and daughters who are not named in Scripture. Genesis 5:4, for example, states Adam had other sons and daughters but no details are given.
2. What was the name of the man whose wife was turned to a pillar of salt when she looked back at the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah?

Answer: Lot

Lot is the correct answer but not much is known about his wife as she is not mentioned by name in Scripture. One of the best known stories in the Old Testament involves the LORD bringing down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah because of its wickedness, with Lot and his family fleeing.

However, Genesis 19:26 states Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt because she looked back, contrary to divine instructions.
3. What's the name of the man who is synonymous with patience and long suffering?

Answer: Job

Job is the correct answer. His world was turned upside down and inside out when a series of severe calamities beset him, as documented in the book of Job. Scripture tells of Job being visited by his friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar and Elihu. And while the friends had intended to comfort Job, it appears they only succeeded in making things worse with their pointing of fingers. Job, however, refused to point fingers at God for his predicament.

The book ends with Job's fortunes changing dramatically for the better. Job 42:12, in the NIV, states: "The LORD blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the former part.

He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. And he also had seven sons and three daughters."
4. Who was the father of Joshua, as per Exodus 33:11?

Answer: Nun

Nun was the father of Joshua but not much is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference. His name appears multiple times in the Old Testament but is almost always when reference is made to Joshua, son of Nun.
5. What's the name of the judge of Israel whose daughter-in-law died during childbirth, just after the capture of the Ark of God? (1 Samuel 4:12-22)

Answer: Eli

Eli is one of the better known judges of Israel. He served as judge when the Ark of God was captured by the Philistines. According to 1 Samuel 4:18, Eli fell backwards off a chair, broke his neck and died, when learned about the capture of the Ark of God.

His two sons -- Hophni and Phinehas -- were also killed in the battle with the Philistines. On top of this his daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, died during childbirth at the same time. According to 1 Samuel 4:10, the Israelites lost 30,000 foot soldiers in the battle with the Philistines.
6. Who was the son of Abijah, grandson of Rehoboam and the great grandson of Solomon, and served as the third king of Judah? (1 Kings 15:11)

Answer: Asa

The third king of Judah was Asa, who was the son of Abijah and grandson of Rehoboam. According to 1 Kings 15:11, Asa did "what was right in the eyes of the LORD." Scripture states he reigned 41 years in Jerusalem.

According to 2 Chronicles 16:12, Asa became diseased in his feet during the 39th year of his reign. Scripture states "his malady was severe; yet in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians." The following chapter tells of Asa being replaced as king by his son Jehoshaphat.
7. According to Genesis 10:23, what's the name of the second son of Aram and grandson of Shem?

Answer: Hul

Hul is the correct answer. However, not much is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference. In addition to Genesis 10:23, Hul is also mentioned in 1 Chronicles 1:17.
8. According to 1 Chronicles 18:9-10, who was the king of Hamath who sent his son Hadoram to salute King David after he heard David had "defeated all the army of Hadadezer"?

Answer: Tou

Tou is the correct answer. 1 Chronicles 18:9-10, in the NIV Bible, states: "When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah, he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and congratulate him on his victory in battle over Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold, of silver and of bronze."

Tou is also mentioned in 2 Samuel 8:9-10. However, in this instance, he is referred to as Toi in the KJV and the NKJV.
9. Who was the husband of Miriam and according to Exodus 17:10-12, held up Moses' hands to defeat the soldiers of Amalek?

Answer: Hur

Hur's assistance is recalled in Exodus 17:10-12. According to Scripture, when ever Moses looked on at the fighting from the top of the hill, the Israelites would be winning the battle when he held up his hands. When his hands were not raised, the Amalekites would be winning, Scripture reports.

Exodus 17:12-13, in the NIV Bible, states: "When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up -- one on one side, one on the other -- so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword."

Hur and Aaron were in charge of the Israelites (Exodus 24:14) when Moses ascended Mount Sinai to receive instructions from the LORD.
10. What's the name of the leader who, according to the 38th and 39th chapters of Ezekiel, would assail the people of Israel?

Answer: Gog

Gog is the adversary mentioned multiple times in the 38th and 39th chapters of Ezekiel. Gog is also mentioned in Revelation 20:8.

There is another man in Scripture with the name Gog. According to 1 Chronicles 5:4, he was a Reubenite and the father of Shimei.

Gog is believed to be also the name of a district. The following information is from the Web site Christiananswers.net: "It has been supposed to be the name of a district in the wild northeast steppes of Central Asia, north of the Hindu-Kush, now a part of Turkestan, a region about 2,000 miles northeast of Nineveh."
