Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Two names in the Bible easily mixed up are Heman and Haman. Heman was a talented musician in the court of King David and was the father of fourteen sons and three daughters. Who was Haman?

Answer: An evil man who planned to kill all the Jews in the Persian empire

Haman was an evil man who planned to kill all the Jews in the massive Persian empire ruled by Ahasuerus. (In the NIV, Ahausuerus is known as Xerxes.) Haman was unable to carry out his diabolical plan as he was out-maneuvered by Queen Esther and Mordecia. See the book of Esther in the Old Testament for full details.

Details about Heman can be found in 1 Chronicles 25:1-6.
2. Eldad and Medad were two men who prophesied in the time of Moses among the Israelites while seventy elders went to the tabernacle to receive the ability to prophesy from God. Their names can be found in only one book in the Old Testament. What is the name of the book?

Answer: Numbers

Using the KJV, the NKJV and the NIV, the names Eldad and Medad can be found in only the book of Numbers. Chapter 11, Verses 26-27 tells of Eldad and Medad prophesying to the Israelites while no less than seventy elders went to the tabernacle to receive the ability to prophesy from God.

The chapter tells of Joshua requesting Moses to prohibit Eldad and Medad from prophesying; however, Moses saw things differently.

In Numbers 11:29, Moses is quoted as telling Joshua: "Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the LORD'S people were prophets and that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!"
3. Er and Ir, who was also known as Iri, are two minor characters in the Old Testament. According to 1 Chronicles 7:12, Ir was a son of Bela and a grandson of Benjamin. Who was Er?

Answer: A husband of Tamar who was struck dead for his wickedness

Er, the son of Judah, was the first husband of Tamar. However, Er was struck dead by God because of his wickedness. No details are given about Er's sinning, with Genesis 38:7 simply stating he was killed because he was "wicked in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD killed him." Er and Tamar did not have any children. The 38th chapter of Genesis goes on to tell of Er's younger brother Onan marrying Tamar and being put to death by the LORD as well.

Manoah was the father of Samson, the super strong judge of Israel who was betrayed by Delilah. According to Judges 13, Manoah's unnamed wife was barren for the longest time. However, when Manoah prayed to God, Scripture states his wife's womb was opened and she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, Samson.

The account of Noah and his family surviving a gigantic flood that engulfed the world can be found in Chapters 6, 7 and 8 of Genesis.

According to the chapter, whenever Moses held up a rod of God in his hands, the Israelites would encounter success in battle, however, whenever he let down his hands the Amalekites would prevail. Scripture goes on to tell of Aaron and Hur joining Moses on the top of a hill and seating Moses on a rock.

The two men then "supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side... until the going down of the sun." As a result, the Israelite army, led by Joshua, was victorious.
