Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Arizona Cardinals, the 2008 NFC Champions, played their home games in a massive domed stadium in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale. Which adult-education institute was title sponsor of the Cardinals' stadium?

Answer: University of Phoenix

Opened in August, 2006, as Cardinals Stadium, University of Phoenix became the facility's title sponsor shortly afterward. The stadium features a retractable roof and has a natural-grass playing surface that can be moved out of the building so the building can be used for other events and for maintenance as needed.

The New York Giants won Super Bowl XLII at University of Phoenix Stadium, against the heavily-favored New England Patriots, to close out the 2007 NFL season.
2. The San Diego Chargers played their home games in a stadium sponsored by which wireless telecommunications company?

Answer: Qualcomm

The Chargers have played at Qualcomm Stadium since it opened as San Diego Stadium in 1967. In 1980, the stadium was renamed in honor of long-time San Diego sportswriter and booster, Jack Murphy. Qualcomm picked up title sponsorship in 1998. The Chargers shared the stadium, nicknamed The Murph and The Q, with the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball from 1969 to 2003.

The stadium has also hosted the college football postseason Holiday Bowl and Poinsettia Bowl.
3. What financial services company served as the title sponsor of the stadium the Tampa Bay Buccaneers called home in 2008?

Answer: Raymond James

Built on the site of Al Lopez Field, a former spring training facility and Minor League Baseball ballpark, Raymond James Stadium replaced Houlihan's Stadium, which opened as Tampa Stadium. The Buccaneers opened their new stadium with a win over the Chicago Bears 27-15 in September, 1998.

The signature feature of the stadium is a giant replica of a pirate ship that has cannons that fire after scores.
4. The Tennessee Titans' stadium was sponsored by which building materials company in 2008?

Answer: Louisiana-Pacific

Opened as Adelphia Coliseum in 1999, LP Field sits on the east bank of the Cumberland River near downtown Nashville. It was the third stadium that the franchise played in after moving to Tennessee from Houston in 1997. LP Field is best known as the scene of the Music City Miracle, one of the most spectacular plays in NFL history, which propelled the Titans to a 22-16 win over the Buffalo Bills in the 1999 AFC Wild Card Playoffs.
5. The New England Patriots looked razor sharp on their home field in 2008, which was sponsored by which well-known personal hygiene brand?

Answer: Gillette

Gillette Stadium originally opened as CMGI Field in May, 2002. CMG Information Services had to forego sponsorship of the stadium after the dot-com bubble burst. The Gillette brand was founded in 1901 by King C. Gillette, who invented the disposable razor blade.

His company was based in Boston at the time it was acquired by Proctor & Gamble in 2005. Gillette Stadium replaced Foxboro Stadium (known at various times as Schaefer Stadium and Sullivan Stadium) as the Patriots permanent home.
6. The Houston Texans played in front of energized crowds at home in 2008 thanks to what company, which served as their stadium's sponsor?

Answer: Reliant Energy

Opened in 2002 as the home of the expansion Texans, Reliant Stadium is part of Reliant Park, a collection of civic facilities that includes Reliant Astrodome, the world's first domed stadium. Reliant Stadium was the first permanent NFL facility to feature a retractable roof.

The stadium was the site of Super Bowl XXXVIII, in which the New England Patriots won their second Super Bowl title.
7. Which bank served as the sponsor of the Baltimore Ravens' home stadium in 2008?

Answer: M&T Bank

Originally known as Ravens Stadium at Camden Yards, M & T Bank became title sponsor in 2002, after internet service provider PSINet declared bankruptcy. After moving from Cleveland as the Browns in 1996, the Ravens spent their first two seasons in aging Memorial Stadium, longtime home of the old Baltimore Colts. M & T Bank Stadium portrayed the home field of the fictional Washington Sentinels in the motion picture "The Replacements", starring Gene Hackman and Keanu Reeves.
8. The Carolina Panthers had a title sponsor they could bank on in 2008. Which bank served as sponsor of their stadium that season?

Answer: Bank of America

Bank of America Stadium opened as Carolinas Stadium in 1994 and was sponsored by cellular phone maker Ericsson from 1996-2004. The stadium sits at the junction of South Graham, South Mint, and West Stonewall streets, in the southwestern corner of downtown Charlotte.

It was built on the site of Good Samaritan Hospital, which is believed to have been the first hospital built exclusively for the treatment of blacks in North Carolina. Prior to moving into the stadium, the Panthers played their first season at Clemson University's Memorial Stadium in 1995.
9. Home cooking was the order of the day in Pittsburgh, where the Steelers, the 2009 AFC Champions and winners of Super Bowl XLIII, played home games in a stadium sponsored by what food company in 2008?

Answer: Heinz

Pittsburgh-based H.J. Heinz Company became title sponsor of the Steelers' new stadium when it opened in 2001. Heinz Field replaced Three Rivers Stadium, home to both the Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball, from 1970 to 2000.

The stadium has been known for winds that make long-distance field goals tricky and for natural turf that gets worn out by heavy use. The Pittsburgh Panthers play their home games there, as well.
10. The Washington Redskins kept things moving in 2008, when they played in front of crowds in a stadium sponsored by which company?

Answer: FedEx

The Redskins moved from their longtime home at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, DC, to Jack Kent Cooke Stadium, near Landover, Maryland, in 1997. With a seating capacity of over 91,000 people, FedExField had the highest capacity of any NFL stadium in use in 2008.
