Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who played first base for the Yankees for 15 seasons?

Answer: Lou Gehrig

Although all were Yankee first basemen, none of the others played for the Yankees for more than 10 seasons. After being a reserve for two seasons in 1923 and 1924, Lou replaced legendary Wally Pipp who was hurting one day. The rest is history, as Lou played in every game until 1939.
2. How many teams in 2003 did not win 50 games in the season?

Answer: 1

The Detroit Tigers were the only team in the season, by going a frivolous 43-119. All other Major League teams won at least 60 games, with the Yankees and Braves having the best record with 101-61.

Answer: Cy Young

The others listed didn't make a name for themselves for another 50 years. The great Cy Young and his Boston Pilgrims lost the first game to the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0.
