1. In which Scottish town or city are East Stirlinghire based?

Answer: Falkirk

East Stirlingshire were formed in 1880 under the original name of Bainsford Britannia, adopting their current name the following year. The town of Falkirk was based in the eastern part of the ceremonial county of Stirlingshire. In 1996 it became a council area in its own right.
2. What is the nickname of East Stirlingshire?

Answer: The Shire

East Stirlinghire's nickname, The Shire, is just a rather unimaginative contraction of Stirlingshire.
The other three options are nicknames of clubs located close by - The Bairns are Falkirk FC, The Warriors are Stenhousemuir FC, and The Wasps are Alloa Athletic FC.
3. What was the name of the home ground of East Stirlingshire between 1921 and 2008?

Answer: Firs Park

East Stirlingshire played at Randyford Park and Merchiston Park before moving into Firs Park in 1921. The ground took its name from its location in Firs Street and should not be confused with Fir Park, home of Motherwell FC. A record crowd of 12,000 attended a Scottish Cup tie against Partick Thistle in Ferbuary 1921, but by the time the ground was closed in 2008, safety considerations had restricted the capacity to around 750.
Since leaving Firs Park, East Stirlingshire have ground-shared, firstly with Stenhousemuir, and later with Falkirk.
4. What have been East Stirlingshire's first-choice colours throughout nearly all of their history?

Answer: Black and White

East Stirlingshire first wore shirts of black and white hoops in 1883. Apart from the occasional daliance with black and white vertical stipes, this has been their first choice strip ever since. Shorts were usually white up until the mid-1970s; since then black shorts have been the norm.
5. East Stirlingshire were members of the Scottish Football League between 1900 and 2016, but spent nearly all that time in the lower divisions. In which two seasons did they actually play in the top tier?

Answer: 1932-33 and 1963-64

East Stirlingshire were Division Two champions in 1931-32 but finished bottom of Division One the following season. In 1962-63, they finished as runners-up to St Johnstone in Division Two to earn a second chance at top flight football, but once again they finished in last place in Division One and were relegated once more.
6. Which famous manager started his managerial career at East Stirlingshire?

Answer: Alex Ferguson

Alex Ferguson joined East stirlingshire as manager aged just 32 in the summer of 1974. He only stayed there for a few months before being offered the managerial job at St Mirren. He would go on to great things at both Aberdeen and Manchester United,
7. In 1964, the name of East Stirlingshire almost disappeared after an attempt by the club's owners to merge with which team, then a member of the West of Scotland Junior League?

Answer: Clydebank

Jack and Charlie Steedman, owners of East Stiringshire, made an audacious attempt to parachute Clydebank into the Scottish League by "merging" them with Shire and moving games to Kilbowie Park in Clydebank. The club was renamed E.S. Clydebank for a single season, 1964-65, before a series of court cases by other directors rendered the merger null and void. Shire moved back to Falkirk, and the Steedmans, who had relinquished control of the club, were eventually given a place in the SFL with Clydebank in 1966.
8. In 1967, England suffered their first defeat as world champions. They lost 3-2 to Scotland at Wembley. A former East Stirlingshire player played for Scotland that day: who was he?

Answer: Eddie McCreadie

Eddie McCreadie was a left back who began his career with East Stirlingshire in 1959. In 1962, Chelsea manager Tommy Docherty spotted him when he went to scout a different player, and he moved to Stamford Bridge. McCreadie was capped 23 times by Scotland, including that famous 1967 victory over England.
9. East Stirlingshire haven't had a lot of players capped by their home countries whilst on their books. Humphrey Jones is their most-capped players with five appearances, for which country?

Answer: Wales

Humphrey Jones was a wing half who was capped 14 times by Wales in the late 19th century, scoring one goal. Five of those caps were awarded whilst he was an East Stirlingshire player between 1889 and 1890.
10. After many seasons struggling at or near the bottom of the Scottish League, East Stirlingshire were finally relegated to the Lowland League in 2016, losing a play-off against which club?

Answer: Edinburgh City

East Stirlingshire had avoided demotion for decades simply because the Scottish League was essentially a closed shop. This changed in the mid-2010s when the League finally adopted a play-off system, where the bottom team had to play-off against the winners of another play-off between the respective champions of the Highland and Lowland Leagues.

At the end of season 2015-16, Shire, who had finished bottom of League Two, faced Edinburgh City of the Lowland League to attempt to preserve their SFL status.

After a 1-1 draw in Edinburgh in the first leg, Shire lost the second leg 0-1 at their temporary home of Ochilview and were relegated to the Lowland League.
