Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The first MLB All-Star game began in 1933, and has been played annually ever since, with some exceptions: from 1959-1962, the game was played twice a year, while the game was cancelled in 1945 due to World War II, and again in 2020 for the Covid-19 pandemic.

St. Louis Cardinal Stan Musial whose career spanned from 1941-1963 and New York/San Francisco Giant Willie Mays (1948-1973) both played in an astonishing 24 All-Star games, but each man benefitted from the extra game played between 1959-62, as they were selected a total of eight times a piece during that span.

Pete Rose played from 1963-1986 and made 17 All-Star games with the NL, playing in 13 with the Cincinnati Reds and four with the Philadelphia Phillies. Warren Spahn also made 17 All-Star games between 1947 and 1963, and retired with the most All-Star selections of any pitcher.

Tony Gwynn spent his entire career with the San Diego Padres, which ran from 1982-2001, and he was selected to 15 games. Barry Bonds' career spanned from 1986-2007, and he made 14 All-Star games, making two with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1990 and 1992, and then went to 12 with the San Francisco Giants from 1993-2007.

Tom Seaver pitched from 1967-1986 and made 12 All-Star games for the NL, including nine with the New York Mets and three with the Cincinnati Reds. Mike Piazza (1992-2007) and Mike Schmidt (1972-1989) also each appeared in 12 All-Star games for the NL. Piazza played in six for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and six for the New York Mets, while Schmidt played all 12 of his for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Last but not least, Joe Morgan played in 10 All-Star games during a career that spanned from 1963-1984. He made two with the Houston Astros in 1966 and 1970, and then made eight more with the Cincinnati Reds from 1972-79.

Among the incorrect answers, Ted Williams, Rickey Henderson, Brooks Robinson, Roger Clemens, Mickey Mantle, Randy Johnson, and Mark McGwire all appeared in at least 10 All-Star games, but they did not appear in at least 10 for the National League.
