At his first start at the Olympics, Tomasz Majewski won his first gold medal with a result of 21,51 meters. Christian Cantwell of the United States won the silver medal and Andrei Mikhnevich of Belarus won the bronze medal.

Szymon Kolecki was five-time European Champion (1999, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2007) and four-time World Championship medalist (Silver - 1999, 2006, Bronze - 2000, 2007). This silver medal, achieved in Beijing, is his second Olympic medal. He also got Silver in Sydney 2000.

Beata Mikolajczyk and Aneta Konieczna won Silver in women's K-2 500 m. In the final race they lost only to Katalin Kovacs and Natasa Janic from Hungary. For Mikolajczyk this was her first olympic medal, but for Konieczna it's her third. Under her maiden name - Pastuszka, she got Bronze in Sydney and in Athens, with Beata Sokolowska-Kulesza as her teammate.

Agnieszka Wieszczek lost in the semi-final to Bulgarian wrestler Stanka Zlateva 0-8, but still she managed to achieve Bronze. In the deciding battle she won with 3-1 against Madera Unda from Spain.
