Answer: Bohemia

Bohemia was an autonomous part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1920, it became part of Czechoslovakia, and after the 1993 dissolution of that country, what was once Bohemia became part of the Czech Republic.

Answer: Antwerp 1920

Ice hockey was only contested at the Summer Olympics once, in 1920. After that it became part of the Winter Olympics. Czechoslovkia won the bronze medal, with Canada's Winnipeg Falcons taking gold, and the USA taking the silver.

Answer: Gymnastics

The Czechoslovakian teams were very successful gymnasts over the years, winning 12 gold, 13 silver, and 10 bronze medals. Since devolution, the Czech Republic and Slovakian teams have not shared the sucesses of the unified Czechoslovakians, and neither country won any gymnastics medals in the 20th century.

Slovakia's most sucessful Olympic event has been canoeing, with seven gold, four silver, and two bronze medals including 2008 Beijing. Not bad considering the country was just 16 years old. The medal haul also included a silver in snowboarding, and a silver in judo in Turin 2006 and Athens 2004, respectively.

Katerina competed in the Winter Olympics as a cross country skier. Between 1998 and 2006, she won a total of one gold, four silver, and one bronze Winter Olympic medals. She entered the Summer Olympics in Atlanta in 1996, competing in the mountain biking event, but was overcome by the heat and didn't win anything. Elisabeta Oleniuc competed for Romania as a rower. Jasna Sekaric competed in five Olympics for Yugoslavia in shooting events. Ilija Lupulesku also competed for Yugoslavia in table tennis.

As well as gold in Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, and Beijing 2008, Pavol Hochschorner won the C2 class individual World Championship in 2002, 2007, 2009, and 2010. He was also a member of the gold medal winning C2 team in 2009, and took individual bronze in 2003 and 2007.

Sarka Kasparkova won a bronze medal in Atlanta, in the ladies triple jump competition. Jan Zelezny won his first Olympic gold medal for javelin in Barcelona in 1992, whilst competing for Czechoslovakia. In 1996, in Atlanta, representing the Czech Republic, he won a second, and followed with the third in 2000 in Sydney. Stepanka Hilgertova won the ladies K1 slalom canoeing competition. Martin Doktor won two gold medals in Atlanta, in the 500m and 1000m C1 canoeing event.

Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova won a silver medal in the doubles in Seoul in 1988. The pair again took silver in Atlanta in 1996, and Jana also won an individual bronze medal there. Hana Mandlíkova is also from the Czech Republic, and she coached Jana Novotna during the 1990s.

Answer: Pierre de Coubertin Medal

Zatopek won gold medals in the Marathon, 10000m, and 5000m races in Helsinki. These were added to a gold and a silver he won in 1948 in London, and accompanied by several European Championship medals and world records.
The de Coubertin Medal is awarded by the International Olympic Committee to an athlete who has demonstrated "the spirit of sportsmanship in Olympic events". Emil Zatopek died in November of 2000.
10. The first Winter Olympic gold medal to be won by an athlete representing Slovakia went to Anastasiya Kuzmina in Vancouver 2010. In which event did she win it?

Answer: Biathlon

Anastasiya won gold in the 7.5Km sprint event in the biathlon. She also took silver in the 10Km pursuit event.
The only Slovak to win a Winter Olympic gold medal before Kuzmina was Ondrej Nepela, and he did so whilst representing a unified Czechoslovakia, in Sapporo in 1972.
