1. Arnela Odzakovic

Arnela started karate at the age of eight and, during the twelve years of her competitive career amassed more than 150 medals at national and international competitions. She is kumite fighter who competes in the 60+ kilogram division. Kumite, along with kata and kihon, are the three main sections of karate training. Kumite training involves training with an adversary. Arnela pressed her claim for Sportswoman of the Year by finishing fifth in the World Karate Championships in 2006. She would go on to win a gold medal at the World Games which were held in Taiwan in 2009.
2. Lucia Kimani

Kenyan born Lucia married her Bosnian husband in 2004 and gained her citizenship two years later. A gifted distance runner, she specializes in the marathon though she created Bosnian running records in four separate distance events. She represented Bosnia at three Summer Olympic Games, at Beijing in 2008, London in 2012 and Rio in 2016.

After winning the Skopje Marathon in 2010 and the Cracovia Marathon in 2012, she and her husband set up a running school in Prijedor in 2013.
3. Larisa Ceric

One of her country's most celebrated female athletes, Larisa has won the Sportswoman of the Year Award on seven separate occasions and was her country's flag-bearer at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo and, again, at the 2024 Games in Paris.

Competing in the 78+ kilogram class, her best finish at the World Championships was a silver medal in 2017. She followed that up with a bronze medal in 2018, though, that same year, she was ranked the number one judoka in her class in the world.
4. Dragana Knezevic

A small touch of irony about Dragana's victory in this award... the following year, she became eligible to represent Bosnia's neighbour, Montenegro, in handball at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Blessed to be born in Banja Luka in Bosnia Herzegovina, Dragana was raised in a town that maintained a strong association with sport of handball and had previously won the European Championships.

A classy left-winger, Dragana would join her twin sister, Milena, to win a silver medal with Montenegro at the 2012 Olympic Games.
5. Ivana Ninkovic

Born in the town of Trebinje, Ivana began swimming for the Banja Luka team at an early age. A strong breast-stroker, she became the Bosnian national champion at the 50m, 100m and 200m breast-stroke as well as the 50m and 100m freestyle. She placed third at her first European Championship event and represented Bosnia at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
6. Aleksandra Samardzic

Aleksandra is a judoka who competes in the 70 kg category and won numerous medals as a junior; and making the final 16 of the World Championships as a mere 17 year old. She would win bronze medals at the 2016 and 2017 IJF Grand Slam events and earned the same result in the 2024 Grand Prix. The latter saw her qualify to represent her country at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games at Paris.
7. Ivona Cavar

Ivona is one of Bosnia's leading karate competitors, winning a bronze medal at the 2016 World Championships, which helped to propel her to winning the Sportswoman of the Year Award the same year. A kumite exponent, she would win bronze at the European Championships two years later and just missed out on qualifying to represent her country at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
8. Marica Gajic

Commencing her basketball career at the age of 15 in 2010, Marica played in numerous European competitions,. She was drafted by the Washington Mystics in the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association in the USA) and worked her way to being appointed captain of the Bosnian national team. The highlight of her career was a fifth placing for her country in the EuroBasket of 2021.
9. Jonquel Jones

Born in The Bahamas, Jonquel is a basketballer who holds citizenship in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which allows her play for its national team. She was selected by the Los Angeles Sparks, as the sixth draft pick in the 2016 Women's National Basketball Association in the USA. She was selected to the 2017 WNBA All-Star Game and walked away with the WNBA's Most Improved Player Award at the end of the season.

She made her national debut for Bosnia in 2021, scoring a massive double-double of 29 points and 16 rebounds against the European powerhouse that is Russia.
10. Lana Pudar

Lana was Bosnia's Sportswoman of the Year for two years running, winning for the second time in 2023. A specialist butterfly swimmer, she set national records in the event over six separate distances and, in 2021 at the FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships, she won the bronze medal in the 200 metres butterfly, at 15 years of age... winning Bosnia's first ever medal at an international swimming meet. Though she didn't make the final, she was the second youngest swimmer at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, and represented her country again at the 2024 Games in Paris.
