Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Super Bowl XXVI: Where was this Super Bowl played?

Answer: Minnesota

Minnesota is a cold place in the winter but the stadium is domed. Nothing cooled off Mark Rypien as he helped the Washington Redskins torch the Buffalo Bills, 37-24.
2. Super Bowl XXVII: If Leon Lett had not "hot dogged" a fumble recovery for a score, the Cowboys would have broken the record for points in a Super Bowl.

Answer: True

The Dallas Cowboys were up 52-17 when Leon Lett seems to be strolling into the end zone for a 59-17 lead, when the Buffalo Bills receiver, Don Beebe made a heads up play and striped him of the ball. It ended up being a touchback and the score became the final. The record for points scored remained in tact : Super Bowl XXIV : San Francisco 49ers v Denver Broncos 55-10.
3. Super Bowl XXVIII: Which of these four statements is not true of this Super Bowl?

Answer: Troy Aikman earned MVP honors

Everything is true except that Emmitt Smith earned the MVP honors. Aikman had won it the year before. This time around, the Dallas Cowboys beat the Buffalo Bills, 30-13.
4. Super Bowl XXIX: Who was the quarterback for the San Diego Chargers in this Super Bowl?

Answer: Stan Humphries

He may have gotten them there, but he did not finish the job as the San Francisco 49ers defeated the San Diego Chargers, 49-26. Even many of those Charger points were in "garbage time".
5. Super Bowl XXX: What was the final score in this Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game?

Answer: 27-17

7. Super Bowl XXXII: The underdog won this Super Bowl?

Answer: True

The Denver Broncos were a wildcard and were a sizable underdog to the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Green Bay Packers, but won a very exciting game 31-24. It was Elway's first in 4 tries.
8. Super Bowl XXXIII: The NFC representative was what seed in the NFC playoffs?

Answer: 2

The Denver Broncos won back to back Super Bowls with a 31-19 win over the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons were 14-2 that year. However, the Minnesota Vikings went 15-1 but lost the NFC Championship game to Atlanta. John Elway retired after this game.
9. Super Bowl XXXIV: How many yards did Kurt Warner throw for in this Super Bowl?

Answer: 414 yards

Kurt needed every one of those yards as the Tennessee Titans came to play. The Titans were stopped on the one-yard line at the end of the game and the Rams won a 23-16 victory. It's considered to be one of the most exciting Super Bowls played.
10. Super Bowl XXXV: The Giants only scored one touchdown in this Super Bowl. How did they achieve that?

Answer: Kick return for a TD

The Baltimore Ravens and their suffocating defense stifled the Giants 34-7 and Ray Lewis from the defense, was ruled MVP. If not for a special teams score, the Giants may have been shut out.
11. Super Bowl XXXVI: Which of these is true about this Super Bowl?

Answer: The Patriots were announced as a team when they came out of the locker room

Answer: Ricky Proehl

Answer: The "home team" was the Seahawks

The home team in the Super Bowl (even though they both play on a neutral field) is chosen on a rotating basis. The Steelers won 3 straight road games but were considered the home team. However, since they had won three straight in their white road uniforms, they chose to wear them again and defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21-10.
16. Super Bowl XLI: What was the name of either of the running backs that the Colts used in a good rushing effort?

Answer: Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes

With a two headed pronged attack, the Colts were able to run over the Chicago Bears on route to a 29-17 victory. Peyton Manning was named the MVP.
17. Super Bowl XLII: Wes Welker tied a Super Bowl record with 11 receptions?

Answer: True

He had a good game, but the 18-0 Patriots finally lost when they ran into the Giants, and were taken out of their game plan in a 17-14 loss. It was one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history.
18. The very first Super Bowl was known at the time as "Super Bowl I"?

Answer: False

The game was actually known at the time in 1967 as the "AFL-NFL World Championship Game". There is a rumor that Lamar Hunt who had the Chiefs in that game called it the "Super Bowl", and that is how it got it's name. In the fifth year of the "Super Bowl", the two leagues merged and it became the AFC and the NFC.
19. How many teams in the first 42 Super Bowls, finished with an 18-1 record?

Answer: 3

The 1984-1985 San Francisco 49ers and the 1985-1986 Chicago Bears did it back to back until the New England Patriots did it in the 2007-2008 season. Unfortunately for the Patriots, their one loss came in the Super Bowl as they were humbled by the New York Giants 17-14. The 49ers defeated the Miami Dolphins 38-16, and the Chicago Bears thumped the New England Patriots 46-10.
20. In the first 42 years of the Super Bowl, which team made it to the game for the most years in a row?

Answer: Buffalo Bills

Unfortunately for the Bills, they went on to lose all four of their consecutive appearances. If Scott Norwood would have made the 47-yard field goal against the Giants, you never know how history would have changed.
