Chase was in his seventh season and second World Series with the Phillies in 2009. He hit two home runs in game one, one in game four, and two in game five. The Phillies would still lose the series to the Yankees, four games to two.

Answer: Bob Gibson

The Tigers defeated the Cardinals in 1968 even with all the strikeouts by Gibson. Bob struck out all-star Bill Freehan eight times, and Hall of Fame great Al Kaline seven times in the series. He broke his own record that he set in 1964 against the Yankees when he struck out 31.

They all had walk-off series-winning hits. Mazeroski hit his home run in 1960 against the Yankees. The Pirate second baseman hit two home runs and batted .320 in the series. Martin of the Yankees singled home Hank Bauer in the last at-bat of the 1953 series. Larkin singled home Dan Gladden for the Twins in 1991.

The Giants won the series four games to one. Mathewson went to four World Series with the Giants, and retired with a 5-5 record along with a series ERA of 0.97.

Answer: Jackie Robinson

The others all retired before the first World Series was played in 1903. Robinson played all his 10 seasons with the Dodgers of Brooklyn from 1947-1956. He went to six World Series with the Dodgers, and ironically, all were against the Yankees. Jackie scored 22 runs in series play, while Yankee Mickey Mantle was on top of the list with 42 runs scored.

Hatcher was in his seventh season in the big leagues, and had been traded by the Pirates to the Reds a week before the 1990 season. Billy went 9-for-12 in the series with four doubles and a triple in the four games to none win over the Athletics. Reds' pitcher Jose Rijo still won the series MVP by going 2-0 and striking out 14 Athletics in 15.1 innings.

In the 1928 series, Ruth was 10-for-17 with three doubles and three home runs. The others listed were all retired prior to 1990.

Both New York Yankees, Ford appeared in 11 World Series while Ruffing appeared in only seven series. Ruffing had a series career record of 7-2. Allie Reynolds would later tie Ruffing's record, but in 1961, Ford would be on top. Ruffing threw 85.2 World Series innings while Ford threw 146. Both Spahn and Koufax won four World Series games, and Drysdale won three.
