Adam really wanted to hold on to his marriage, with Erica, so he resorted to rigging a paternity test to prove that Jeremy was the father of Natalie's child. He did this so that it would convince Erica to leave Jeremy so Jeremy could be with Natalie and raise his "son." Erica even got so fed up with Adam that she went to Canada just to escape him. Adam's scam was revealed and Natalie confessed, to Jeremy, that Alex was her baby's biological father.

Hillary and the other guests, at hers and Tad's wedding, wondered where Tad was so she thought Tad was at the bank since that was where he worked. Hillary took off to find Tad, at the bank, and she ran out into the street and Edna Thornton, who was driving in her car, ran down Hillary. Edna and Dottie, who was in the passenger's seat, got out to make sure Hillary was alright. Hillary got Edna to give her a ride, to the bank, to find Tad. Hillary found Tad and they went back to the Wallingford Mansion to get married.

Erica had Mark hide out in the attic, of her home, so he could start to heal from his drug addiction to cocaine. This addiction to cocaine cost Mark his marriage to Ellen. Ellen, Brooke, and Erica staged an intervention in order to get Mark to kick his cocaine habit. Years later, when it came time for Erica to get her own intervention to kick her alcoholism, Mark returned to town to help Erica.

Mark ran into even more problems when, while he fought his addiction to cocaine, he had an affair with a married woman. The woman's husband turned out to be a man named Earl Mitchell and he wanted to get revenge on Mark. Earl wound up dead but Jeremy was arrested for Earl's murder. Mark was revealed to have killed Earl but he did not spend any time, in prison, for this crime.

Adam hired a thug to shoot Palmer and the thug managed to shoot Palmer. As a result of this, Palmer was paralyzed and he decided to hire a private nurse to help him recover at Cortlandt Manor. He hired Natalie Marlowe to be his nurse and they managed to fall in love.

A newcomer, to Pine Valley, Wade Matthews set his sights on Phoebe and was determined to break her and Langley up. He succeeded since Phoebe divorced Langley and began a relationship with Wade. In a drunken stupor, Phoebe married Wade, in the Caribbean, and Wade tried to kill her by poisoning her. Phoebe wised up to his scheme and she divorced him. Wade attempted to leave town, disguised as a woman, to avoid going to prison but he was caught and sentenced to prison.
