Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these sweet spreads was Malcolm putting on a slice of toast at the beginning of the episode?

Answer: Orange marmalade

Immediately when the episode begins, we see Malcolm getting a piece of toast and apparently burning himself with it. Then, he spreads some orange marmalade on a slice of toast and spills a significant amount on the table. Malcolm then turns this piece of toast into a nightmarish food: he adds relish, a sticky substance he found in his fridge, and even dirt off his shoe.

Then, Malcolm gets ready to watch TV and puts the bread near his mouth, only for Reese to take it away from him. Of course, Malcolm knew that Reese would try to steal his food! Reese realizes what he's done when he takes the first bite and runs in disgust to the bathroom.
2. What item of clothing was Lois holding when Malcolm went into his room?

Answer: Underpants

Lois was holding several pairs of white underpants which looked like new. She questioned Malcolm as to why she bought him so many if he wasn't wearing them. Malcolm responded that he wanted to wear boxers instead, but his mom dismissed his concerns. Malcolm then added: "just once, I'd like a childhood memory I don't have to repress".
3. When discussing the "hazing" of Cynthia, which of these do they say is the only act that the Krelboynes did NOT do to Malcolm in an attempt to "haze" him?

Answer: Trying to shave his head

The Krelboyne class is excited to have a new student in it, because they get to "haze" the newcomer. While Stevie calls Cynthia "fresh meat" and the other Krelboynes tell Malcolm he no longer has to live in fear, Malcolm is confused as to what they mean. Apparently, the Krelboynes "hazed him" by engaging in relatively minor pranks, which obviously were so minor that Malcolm didn't even notice them.
4. From which New York City borough did Cynthia supposedly come?

Answer: Manhattan

Malcolm wants to be nice so he walks to Cynthia and introduces himself. Cynthia says that her dad wanted to move away from Manhattan, though she believed the real reason was that her dad was upset about Cynthia's mom getting married to someone else. She then continues on a tangent about her brother dying in a boating accident, until she reveals that she was joking all along. Malcolm then leaves the conversation very confused.

Creepily, Cynthia follows Malcolm all the way home. Lois invites her to have dinner with the family. Lois then scolds Malcolm for not inviting the girl earlier, and then hilariously adds: "she obviously has no friends at all".
5. What activity does Hal say he was doing with Francis to cover for his son?

Answer: Fishing

Francis, as usual, is up to no good. This time, someone took Commandant Spangler's tractor for a joyride in a cornfield, and Francis is a prime suspect. Francis calls Hal and asks him for an alibi, since otherwise he will be in serious trouble. Hal refuses to help but instinctively lies to Lois anyway.

Then, when Commandant Spangler calls Hal to inform him about Francis' potential guilt, Hal immediately assures Spangler that the two were out fishing smallmouth bass so Francis couldn't have done it.
6. What type of Israeli martial art does Cynthia use to make Reese go away?

Answer: Krav Maga

The next day at school, Cynthia again follows Malcolm everywhere. She sits next to him to eat lunch and signs them up as pairs for a school project. Malcolm continues to be annoyed until Reese gets there and starts bothering them. Surprisingly, Cynthia is able to physically overpower Reese, who runs away crying. Cynthia explains that she used Krav Maga, the self-defense martial art that the Israeli army uses.

After this happens, Malcolm's perspective on Cynthia changes for the better.
7. When Cynthia is pretending to speak like Dabney and Lloyd, what type of triangular chip does she mention?

Answer: Doritos

Malcolm is becoming friendlier with Cynthia. While they're having lunch, Cynthia mocks Dabney and Lloyd by pretending to speak like them, claiming she can read lips. She imagines that Lloyd is claiming "80% of his Doritos are isosceles triangles", making Malcolm laugh.

Then, it looks as if Malcolm and Cynthia are about to kiss, but Cynthia snorts loudly, which makes Malcolm go away. Malcolm continues to be conflicted throughout the day: he seems to like Cynthia, but at the same time she does things that he doesn't find attractive.
8. As soon as Malcolm tells Francis he's having issues with a girl, what is Francis' immediate advice?

Answer: Keep Mom out of it!

Malcolm calls his older brother Francis for advice about his situation with Cynthia. As soon as Malcolm says that something about a girl is bothering him, Francis yells "keep Mom out of it!" He warns that Lois will ruin his love life, whether Malcolm follows her advice or does the opposite. Unfortunately, none of this helps Malcolm with the issue.
9. What does Lois do to stop Dewey from worrying about germs?

Answer: Eats a bug

To convince Dewey to stop obsessing with his stuffed animal, Lois tells him that the bear is full of germs that could harm Dewey and cause nerve damage. Dewey is frightened and decides to give up his stuffed animal. Then, he becomes obsessed with fighting germs by carefully cleaning kitchen surfaces and covering himself in bubble wrap. Lois talks to Dewey about how this new obsession might also be unhealthy, but Dewey is still scared of germs. Lois eats a bug to assure Dewey that she would be fine despite the germs, which seems to work.

After Dewey leaves, Lois coughs and tries to get the bug taste out of her mouth.
10. Toward the end of the episode, what was Malcolm's way of getting Cynthia's attention?

Answer: Throwing a brick through her window

The day after Malcolm tells Cynthia he doesn't want to be lab partners with her any longer, he sees her eating lunch with someone else. Malcolm gets jealous and is annoyed that he is feeling this way. Soon, we find out that Malcolm threw a brick through Cynthia's window at 2:00am! Malcolm claims not to know why he did it. Lois confronts Cynthia's dad and says this wasn't an "attack", but rather, evidence that Malcolm has a crush on her.

While embarrassing Malcolm, Lois insists that this is natural during puberty, and even warns Cynthia that she will be "an early bloomer". She then tells Cynthia's father that she'll give him the number of a glass company that gets a lot of business from her family.

Cynthia admits that she likes Malcolm, and he replies that he also feels that way. When they try to kiss, Malcolm goes off on a tangent about his brother and his mom, which makes Cynthia mad. The episode ends with Cynthia performing a Krav Maga move on Malcolm and leaving him lying on the floor painfully.
