2.8 "Malcolm in the Middle" - "Therapy" Quiz

Answer: Eclairs

Hal comes home with a box of three eclairs, which were the last three available at the store. At first, they each volunteer not to eat one of the pastries so that there are enough for the children. However, they can't resist the temptation and quickly devour all three eclairs. Eclairs are delicate French pastries that are normally filled with sweet cream and covered in chocolate icing (though the icing can come in other flavors).

Answer: Jester

Malcolm tells us that he sometimes thinks school exists to make him miserable. His Krelboyne class, which is a special class for gifted children, is having a medieval-themed week. Malcolm doesn't want to wear his jester costume at home but his mom forces him to. Reese teases his brother, which their dad initially tries to stop. Hal does point out that Malcolm is asking to be teased by wearing the jester costume.

Answer: She was pregnant

Caroline is the overenthusiastic teacher of the school's gifted children. At the start of Medieval Week, she says that she would demonstrate the "harvest dance" herself but for the fact that she was in her third trimester of pregnancy. Caroline is quick to deflect questions about who the father of the baby is.

Answer: Dentist

Just before the "harvest dance" begins, Caroline reminds Dabney that he has an appointment with the dentist. Malcolm is confused because Dabney goes to the dentist too often. Then, Lloyd explains that "going to the dentist" is actually a coded way of saying that they are seeing the school therapist. Lloyd tells Malcolm that he also goes to therapy at the suggestion of his parents.

Answer: Play video games

Caroline tells the children that they will perform their "harvest dance" in an assembly in front of the entire school. Embarrassed, Malcolm fakes a mental breakdown to get out of the assembly by being sent to the therapist. His plan works and we next see him in Ms. Gilbert's office playing a video game. Malcolm tells us that even though he faked it, visiting the therapist would've been a matter of time anyway given the dysfunctional family he has.

Answer: Tomatoes

When Malcolm gets home, Reese is making himself a peanut butter sandwich. Reese was pleased with how he got to throw fruit at the Krelboynes during the assembly. He then asks Malcolm where he was since he had a few tomatoes prepared to throw at him. Malcolm dodges the question and Reese eventually gets distracted and doesn't follow up on the real reason for Malcolm's absence.

Answer: Laundry

At the military school in Alabama, Francis is sent to perform duties in the laundry room. Immediately, Francis notices that the detergent they use is very low quality, which helps explain why their uniforms are uncomfortable. Francis rebelliously throws away the detergent and makes well-received changes to the laundry process.

In exchange, he gets cool gifts and money from his peers. However, Francis lets the power go to his head and he starts demanding more and more money to wash clothes. Eric sabotages Francis by putting a red shirt into a load of whites, angering all the cadets.

Answer: His class is visiting the Museum of Torture

Malcolm realizes that the more he goes to therapy, the more he can avoid the activities at the Krelboyne class. He carefully studies child psychology to figure out what the therapist is looking for and successfully convinces Ms. Gilbert of his "issues".

His plan takes a turn when Caroline reveals the class will be visiting the Museum of Torture and eating pizza later in the week. Malcolm suddenly wants to get out of therapy to go to the museum. He gets even more distressed when he finds out Reese knows what he's doing. Hilariously, Reese pretends to have a dissociative disorder so he can go to the therapist too.

Answer: Grease

Malcolm is nervous that Reese will ruin his plan to waste time with the therapist. Reese tries to appear prepared by claiming he rented "Silence of the Lambs", "Seven", and "The Nutty Professor" to perform his own research. Obviously, Reese's simplistic plan does not work and they end up getting a visit from Ms. Gilbert at home. Lois instantly figures out Malcolm's plan so she goes along in the very uncomfortable conversation with Ms. Gilbert. Soon, the conversation becomes a real airing out of Malcolm's feelings about how Lois pressures him too much. Malcolm and Lois end up crying and apologizing to each other!

Answer: A bathroom

Once Hal and Lois finish cleaning the closet, they stumble upon a toilet. At first, they think the previous homeowners left it there and unsuccessfully attempt to lift it. That is when they realize that the toilet can flush and the room really is a fully-functioning bathroom. Though they are excited about this discovery, they decide to keep quiet and hide the toilet so their children don't find out.
