Answer: Space probe

In the opening scene, President Bartlet was with C.J. and remarked on the "Galileo" and how they had a good way of naming space probes in the past. He referenced past names of space probes, like "Atlantis", "Mercury", and "Apollo." C.J. simply commented that they were all good names.

During the opening credits, Josh spoke with Toby and mentioned how it was amazing that it was 12:00 noon on the east coast and 9:00 a.m. on the west coast but it was 2:37 p.m., an obscure time, on Mars. Toby simply responded to him how Mars was in a different time zone. Toby then commented how Mars rotated on its axis once every 24 hours and 37 minutes to explain the obscure 37 minutes in Mars' time change.
