Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "West Wing" episode 23: "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen (Part I)". Which main character is rushed into emergency surgery after being found outside on the ground shot during the Presidential assassination attempt?

Answer: Josh

The start of season two begins dramatically, when Toby finds Josh holding his stomach, barely conscious. Toby yells for help and it arrives very quickly. In the meantime, the President's limo makes a dramatic rush for the hospital when it is discovered that President Bartlet is bleeding.
2. "West Wing" episode 24: "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen (Part II)". What is the first thing Josh says when awakening from his surgery?

Answer: "What's next?"

This phrase became a hallmark of the show, being most commonly uttered by President Bartlet. It has special significance in this episode, which features a series of flashbacks dealing with the President's successful election campaign, where he uses the phrase to suggest all is on track.
3. "West Wing" episode 25: "The Midterms". In a memorable scene, President Bartlet gives a conservative radio presenter a few reasons for rethinking her stance on homosexuality. Which of these is NOT one of the biblical references he cites?

Answer: His daughter wants to marry outside her religion

A powerful scene. The President is angered by the radio presenter, Dr Jenna Jacobs, who refuses to stand when he enters the room. Thus begins the tirade! He also suggests that he wants to sell his daughter into slavery, which would have been acceptable in biblical times.
4. "West Wing" episode 26: "In This White House". When Ainsley Hayes, a Republican lawyer, is offered a job at the White House, she accepts it immediately.

Answer: False

This episode starts with Sam (in Josh's words) "getting his butt kicked by a girl" during a TV debate. Toby and Josh sit back and enjoy it (with popcorn) but the President and Leo are impressed and offer her a job as a White House lawyer. Despite the fact that she has had lifelong dreams of working at the White House (since 2, according to her), she is reluctant at first for obvious reasons.

But in the end she can't resist.
5. "West Wing" episode 27: "And It's Surely to Their Credit". What is the interesting title of Ainsley Haynes' office?

Answer: The Steam Pipe Trunk Distribution Venue

Not all the White House staff are welcoming of the new Republican staffer, but Sam and Ainsley's new boss, Lionel Tribbey, stick up for her and even provide her with a musical welcome (taken from "HMS Pinafore").
6. "West Wing" episode 28: "The Lame Duck Congress". How does the President deal with an angry, drunk member of the Ukranian Parliament that demands a meeting with him?

Answer: He arranges an 'accidental' meeting

The President can't officially meet with this member of a foreign Parliament, so he arranges Donna to sit with him and they 'accidentally' meet as Bartlet walks past.
7. "West Wing" episode 29: "The Portland Trip". Why does Josh find Congressman Matt Skinner's position opposing same sex marriage surprising?

Answer: Matt is gay

Josh goes on to ask how Matt can be a member of a party that opposes such a big part of his life. Also in this episode, Leo's divorce comes through and his assistant, Margaret, is concerned that he will want to drink.
8. "West Wing" episode 30: "Shibboleth". When President Bartlet is testing the true faith of Chinese Christians, one of them not only proves it to him, but literally utters the word "Shibbloleth" to put it beyond doubt.

Answer: True

Once Bartlet is sure that the group are truly in need of refuge, he cleverly organises for their 'escape' from detention, so that the Chinese Government is not offended by them being let go.
9. "West Wing" episode 31: "Galileo". Bartlet shows in this episode that he has impressive mathematical talents along with his other intellectual accomplishments. What does he manage to do in his head?

Answer: Convert temperature scales

Bartlet quotes the average temperature of Mars, and is told he has it wrong. He rebuffs, noting that he converted it to Celsius. A mini-drama also erupts in this episode when it comes to the attention of the media that Bartlet doesn't like green beans.
10. "West Wing" episode 32: "Noël". Josh deals with his post traumatic stress disorder, when we find out at the end of the episode that music sounds to him like what other troubling sound?

Answer: Sirens

Dr. Stanley Keyworth, a renowned psychologist, helps a frustrated Josh work through his issues. At the end of the episode Leo shows his true loyalty to Josh, telling him, "Long as I got a job, you got a job".
