Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the flashback to CJ's career, who was the film producer who caused her to be fired?

Answer: Roger Becker

CJ had been employed at a public relations company in Beverley Hills, but was fired when one of their clients, film producer Roger Becker, only received two Golden Globe nominations and dropped down the scale of 'Most Powerful People in Hollywood'. CJ told him that his movies were just bad, and was then told by her boss Isabel that Becker had threatened to withdraw his account unless CJ was fired.

When CJ arrived home, Toby was waiting to offer her a job with the Bartlet campaign.
2. What was the name of Sam's law-school classmate who was persuaded by Sam to run for a seat in Congress?

Answer: Tom Jordan

Sam promised Tom the full support of the Democratic National Committee and the Congressional Campaign Committee as well as the support of the President if Tom would agree to run for Congress. However it then transpired that Tom had strong racist views, and as a result Leo decided that all support for Tom had to be withdrawn. On Election Day, Sam was lashed by Tom's wife Sarah for not giving them any support.
3. President Nimbala was the head of which country?

Answer: Republic of Equatorial Kuhndu

President Nimbala of Kuhndu visited the White House to meet with drug company executives over the cost of AIDS drugs to his African country. The deal was made on condition that Nimbala stopped the influx of black market drugs from other countries. However, news then arrived that there had been a coup in Kuhndu . Nimbala insisted on returning home despite Bartlet's warning that the rebels would shoot him as soon as he stepped off the plane, which in fact was exactly what did happen.
4. What was the name of the retiring Army general who was taken to task by CJ?

Answer: Ed Barrie

Three-star General Ed Barrie was planning to go on TV following his retirement to criticise President Bartlet and his administration, especially about the inadequate state of the armed forces. CJ took him to task and. to Barrie's chagrin, pointed out that he had no right to wear the medal for Distinguished Service Combat since the ship he was on when he supposedly won the medal was never fired on and never shot its guns.
5. What did Vasily Konanov want to do?

Answer: Meet the President

Vasily Konanov, a Ukrainian politician, was not supposed to meet anyone important at the White House but he refused to leave until he had met the President. Leo came up with a solution that had been tried before, that they could arrange for Konanov to meet the President 'accidentally'.

When Bartlet met up with Konanov, he said that he knew that he was a reformer and would become the President of his country, but until then his State Department had to deal only with the government of the Ukraine.

Then he added, 'Now you can go home and do what you wanted to do, which is say that you have met with the President of the United States.'
6. What was the name of Leo's sister?

Answer: Josephine

Josephine McGarry was Toby's choice for a vacancy in the Education Department because she was strongly against organised prayer in public schools (which Toby also strongly opposed). Her appointment would cause the controversial subject to come to the forefront again but Leo, feeling that they were not ready for the fight that would ensue, persuaded Josey to withdraw her nomination.
7. What was the name of the woman who started screaming when she saw a painting at the White House?

Answer: Rebecca Housman

Mrs Housman was on a tour of the White House when she lost her composure on seeing a painting there that had once belonged to her father who had been an art collector. CJ investigated and discovered that it had been seized by the Nazis when Mrs Housman's father had been sent to Auschwitz.

It was sold but eventually ended up at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. When President Bartlet admired it, the French presented it to him as a gift. The painting was returned to Mrs Housman.
8. Which comedian was persuaded to turn down an invitation to host an annual event?

Answer: Corey Sykes

Cornelius (Corey) Sykes had been invited to host the annual Will Rogers Dinner at which the President would be present. However, two years previously he had made an offensive joke at a fundraising event, which had been well publicised. The White House staff maintained that Bartlet had not laughed at the joke and CJ was given the job of persuading Corey to turn down the invitation. Corey complained that although he had raised funds, registered voters and done commercials for the Democrats, they did not support him when he was described as 'Hollywood Sleaze' by the press.

He also maintained that Bartlet had laughed at the joke. However, he did agree to turn down the invitation because he didn't want to cause any trouble for the President.
9. Rhonda Sachs was the policewoman assigned to Toby when he was sent to a meeting of the World Policy Studies protesters. Where was the meeting held?

Answer: National Geograhic Society

Toby was told by Leo to conduct the meeting where the protesters were demanding 'Global Justice' and criticising the policies of the World Trade Organisation which comprised of 140 counties who agreed to specific trade polices that led to lower prices.

The protesters maintained that this benefited corporations and not individuals, but they were so unruly that Toby gave up and instead enjoyed chatting to Rhonda.
10. What was the name of Donna's school friend who tried to get a Presidential pardon for her grandfather?

Answer: Stephanie Gault

Stephanie Gault's grandfather Daniel had been imprisoned for perjury in an espionage case and died in prison. She wanted to get a Presidential pardon for him for her sake of her father who was dying. Donna persuaded Sam to investigate the case, but he discovered that Daniel Gault had in fact been a spy who had sent US economic documents to Soviet agents at the Russian embassy. Sam wanted to tell Stephanie the truth, but Donna persuaded him not to.
