Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Anya finds herself working what job?

Answer: Cashier

Working as a cashier at an S-Mart, Anya rings through customers and goes about her day. After her shift she passes by the ballet studio and the video game store as she makes her way home, and when she makes it back, she prepares a microwave dinner and plunks herself down in front of the TV.

Late in the evening, Anya goes to bed to the sound of a baby crying upstairs. As she falls asleep, her alarm clock goes off, but she hits it to keep it quiet.

The next morning, Anya wakes up, puts her fake leg on, and does it all again, returning to work and checking people out at the cash register. Her manager comes by to check in on her and make sure she's transitioning well into her new job, encouraging her to ensure she has goals.

That afternoon, as she passes by the ballet studio, she tries to make a jump but struggles with her artificial leg, embarrassing herself.
2. Every night, Anya's alarm clock goes off at what time?

Answer: 12:00

Anya gets home from work and falls into the same pattern as normal, making a microwave dinner and sitting down to watch TV. She jokingly chats with her artificial leg before heading to bed.

At midnight, the alarm clock goes off again. This time, Anya hears an odd chanting through the static that seems to vanish when she turns the radio back on.

Anya attends a group therapy session for her grief. She admits that she had a roommate who used to tell her things that she always found crazy. The roommate had a friend with a tumour, and one day, his body kicked in like it would with the flu and it beat the tumour and did right by him. She laughed at the story when she heard it.

Her roommate and her other friends, one time, took her from her room and tried something really crazy to make her feel better, but in the end it made her really sick-- fever, loss of consciousness-- and her body, at long last, decided to do the right thing. Spontaneous regression. It still sounds stupid to her. But that roommate, wherever she is, she hopes she's laughing.
3. Anya phones Rhett, calling him using which of these?

Answer: The Yellow Pages

Anya continues the cycle-- back to work, back past the ballet studio. As she passes a hardware store, a man leaves with a hammer in-hand. That night, she calls Rhett, getting his number from the Yellow Pages. He asks what she wants and she admits that things are better; she just needed to say it and to apologize for everything. She asks him to tell her that something-- anything-- can be right again because she feels broken inside. He hangs up on her though.

As Anya cries, her alarm clock goes off and a voice, clear in the static, begins chanting. It's midnight again.

At group therapy, Anya is asked to revisit a phrasing she used in her last session, referring to 'her friends at the time'. She clarifies that they're not there anymore. She used to believe that when her friends left they would reach out and give her a sign, but that was too much to expect. She tells her group leader that spontaneous regression, like she experienced, is unfair; it's not like magic because if it worked for her, it should have worked for her friends, but it didn't. They tried the ritual six more times, but the five sisters didn't have it in them. Her friends have been dead for a year and if they could reach her, they'd be screaming to let her know not to be afraid.
4. Anya starts to encounter people from her past, including people who she's only heard about in stories.

Answer: True

Anya works the register again and starts ringing items through until she comes to a bloody hammer. She asks the customer what she's doing, but the woman paying for it claims she couldn't find a price tag. Anya's manager takes over for her.

Heading home, Anya passes the video game store and looks inside to see Amesh working behind the till and, amazed and thrilled, she rushes inside to celebrate her friend's well-being. What she finds, however, is that it's not him; the man behind the till is Luke, and Becky is working alongside him. Anya has to ask if he's joking but Luke, serious, calls the cops for assistance.

The cop, a familiar detective, arrives immediately and asks if help is required, but Anya backs out of the store and into the street, running into other familiar faces, some from her past and some from stories she was told. She sees characters she created in the ballet studio and she opens the door to the building...
5. Who found the Midnight Club as they performed their ritual in the chamber beneath the basement?

Answer: Dr. Stanton

...and when Anya walks into the ballet studio, she emerges in her apartment. Sandra's story, 'Gimme a Kiss', plays on the TV and as she opens the bathroom door she finds a man in a scuba suit in the tub, the room burning around him. She turns to find a woman with a gun, and as it fires, she falls back into her bed.

Looking up at her ceiling, she notices the figure staring back at her, reaching out from the murky darkness, and she shuts her eyes.

But that's when her clock goes off. It's midnight, and Ilonka's voice rings out from the radio to let her know that the Midnight Club is broadcasting from the hallway outside the recovery room. She informs her that Dr. Stanton has gone nuclear, having found them in the ritual chamber on the night of the sacrifices. None of them are allowed in the library.

All of them recite the Midnight Club's incantation before Ilonka hands the reins over.
6. Who tells Anya the story of her life after Brightcliffe?

Answer: Natsuki

After the incantation, Ilonka lets Natsuki take the intercom for the evening, presenting a story she created for Anya with details she could find from the others.

On the night of the ritual, they all chanted for her and she vanished in a burst of like, vanishing like Julia Jayne. She reappeared a week later, healthy, just like Julia, and Dr. Stanton declared her cured. She stayed at Brightcliffe anyways, at least for a few more weeks, because that way she could perform the ritual for everyone. And it worked. They were all healed.

They all took over a floor of an apartment building after leaving Brightcliffe-- a co-ed Brightcliffe invasion-- and it was cheap and they could live there forever. Anya went to college and got a prosthetic leg so she could start taking dance classes again.

After a fantastic dance rehearsal one day, her old childhood friend, Rhett, walked by. They mended fences and bought a house together-- one with a white picket fence. And they stayed there for years and years and years. They would have three kids together and a German shepherd.

She would live out the rest of her days with her family. Safe, happy, in love.

The Midnight Club ends the story and wishes Anya a good night while she listens on.
7. Anya requested that all of her earthly possessions be left to what fate?

Answer: That they be handed over to Ilonka

While the others head to bed, Ilonka stays by the intercom alone to say a few final things roomie-to-roomie. She starts by apologizing for the ritual. When Anya passed out, no one knew what to do. It got worse when Dr. Stanton arrived, of course. Ilonka just thinks everything about the situation is unfair, but she wants to remind Anya that they're all with her in there, wherever she may be.

As Anya looks at her room, she sees the other members of the Midnight Club there with her. She's not alone and she never will be.

As Anya lies down in her bed, Ilonka tells her everything is going to be alright and wishes her good night. In the recovery room, Anya's eyes open and she says good night in turn.

The next day, the recovery room is turned over and left open. As Ilonka comes by to see the empty room, she's reminded of how kind Anya was, even when she was in pain. She is angry in her grief, but she remembers Anya for all she was.

Shortly thereafter, Dr. Stanton calls Ilonka to her office and lets her know that Anya left all of her possessions to her. It isn't much-- just some money and a few small items. More important, however, is 'The Paragon Diary'. Dr. Stanton asks Ilonka to tell her where she found it, what they were doing in the basement, and why she shouldn't throw her out of the house.
8. According to Shasta, the most important thing that her tattoo symbolizes is which of the following?

Answer: The fact that it can be turned over

Ilonka acknowledges to Dr. Stanton that she found 'The Paragon Diary' in the library and that they were in the basement chamber wasting what little precious time Anya had left since they couldn't change the inevitable.

As she departs, Ilonka leaves Brightcliffe for the day, heading to Shasta's to ask why the ritual didn't work. All Shasta can say is that the ritual didn't work for Anya. But what it did do was matter since it mattered to Anya that they tried.

Ilonka asks once more about Shasta's hourglass tattoo and she learns of its significance not only for Shasta, but for the Paragon. Not only is it an instrument of time, but it comprised the Greek symbols of Earth and Air; as above, so below. Most importantly, it's a tool that could be turned over. Life can prevail.

Legends of healings do fill the woods around Brightcliffe. She and her collective are harmless, Shasta claims, but others have come with more nefarious ideas of using the land's powers for gain.

When she returns to her room, Ilonka goes through the belongings bequeathed to her and finds not only Anya's ballerina figurine but, tucked away, Rhett's number. She calls it to break the news, but the line appears to be disconnected.
9. The staff of Brightcliffe have always been aware of the Midnight Club's existence.

Answer: True

The Midnight Club gathers in the library with Anya's box of keepsakes before them and Ilonka reveals that she also received a letter that she has yet to open. Wasting no time, she opens the envelope and recites the contents. It starts with the club's invocation and Anya's words remind them that if anyone can message back from the other side, it's her. If they hear no word back, they can still relax; it's nothing but oblivion. She asks them to raise their glass as she bids them farewell.

As Ilonka finishes the letter she folds it up and puts it away. The group, feeling put-out by the circumstances, doesn't tell a story for the evening, instead toasting to Anya. As they do, however, the doors to the library open and Dr. Stanton lets herself in.

Stanton comments that it's the perfect room and the perfect ambiance for the Midnight Club. She's always known, but she's never made it a point to stop anyone. Heck-- the staff have always left fresh firewood. She would fall asleep year after year knowing the fire was lit and that stories were being told, even if the faces changed. The sounds of stories, she says, are the sounds of life.

Stanton doesn't know what to do with them though. What they were doing in the room at the bottom of the elevator was a problem. She could lock the doors of the library or their rooms but she doesn't quite want to. For this night, she asks that they just go to bed; she'll think on tomorrow.

Before the Midnight Club goes to bed, Ilonka suggests that they do right by Anya. Bringing her keepsakes out to the beach, they step foot into the water and hold the funeral she never had by casting her ashes into the tide.
10. Ilonka overhears Dr. Stanton talking on the phone. Aside from all the bad news of the day, she hears what shocking bit of information?

Answer: One of the patients might be healthy

After the Midnight Club holds Anya's funeral and sings together to Cheri's cello in her memory, they return to the manor. Ilonka and Kevin stay behind, sharing an awkward moment. As she leans in for a kiss, Kevin pulls back and tells her not to spin out.

Inside Brightcliffe, Dr. Stanton tosses 'The Paragon Diary' into the fireplace and lets it burn to cinders. She leaves her apartment and places a picture back on the wall in the hallway as Ilonka makes her way back into the building, narrowly avoiding crossing paths.

Ilonka stays close as Dr. Stanton heads into her office and dials a number on her phone. Crying to the person on the other line about the poor fortune of the past days, she reveals that she's been struggling with all the recent events; the kids brought up awful stuff from the past. And on top of all the tragedy as of late, she received calls from doctors and heard news she didn't quite know how to process-- one of her patients might not be terminal, and it would mean they would be cleared to go home.

Ilonka, surprised by the news, tries to rush by Stanton's office but knocks into something on the way by, forcing her to run and hide. She races back to her room and mulls over the information in the dark, but that's when the ghastly spectre of a crone appears behind her, chasing her into the bathroom. She locks the door, but finds someone else in the mirror reflected back at her. It's enough trauma that she collapses to the floor.
