Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ilonka asks Dr. Stanton, point-blank, if she's the one whose diagnosis indicates she can go home. What is Dr. Stanton's answer?

Answer: No

Ilonka wakes up on the floor of her bathroom the morning after Anya's funeral and immediately recollects the events of the evening. After coming back to her room she was visited by two terrifying ghosts before she collapsed.

When Ilonka finally gets up for her day she confronts Dr. Stanton in her office, letting her know she heard her conversation on the phone-- someone is going home. Dr. Stanton tells her that no one is going home yet, at least not until they have the answers in hand, and while Ilonka says that the patients have a right to know, Dr. Stanton says that no one must be told until they know for certain.

Ilonka has to ask-- is it her? Dr. Stanton says no.

At group therapy, Spencer asks Dr. Stanton if they can have the library back for the midnight Club's sessions, but the doctor hasn't made up her mind. She insists that trust must be rebuilt.
2. Which Brightcliffe patient alleges that they came out to their parents?

Answer: Cheri

Ilonka leaves the group therapy session and Kevin catches up with her to ask what's wrong. He apologizes for the previous night and what was left undone on the beach, but the issue clearly goes beyond that. She makes him promise not to tell, but she reveals the phone call to him. He happens to agree with Dr. Stanton though-- it could be a misdiagnosis. Ilonka reasons that the ritual must've worked, just not for Anya.

Ilonka heads to Shasta's to talk through the issue. Although Dr. Stanton told Ilonka the call wasn't about her, she knows that Stanton would say no, even if that meant lying. If she is okay and going home, the others would still live and die at Brightcliffe, and she's not ready for that result.

Amesh heads to the nurse's office to meet with Mark and get his vitamin IV and it appears that he might be taking on new issues with his motor skills. Mark tells him that if any new symptoms arise, it only benefits Amesh to let him know.

Cheri, meanwhile, gives Spencer a haircut and the two talk about Cheri's stories. He asks about one she told earlier-- about her and another girl-- and the conversation turns to her coming out to her parents. He only hopes that it went better for her than it did for him, but Cheri doesn't think it did because her parents didn't care. Spence regrets how much has gone unsaid with his parents. He wishes he had the courage to say more.
3. Shasta claims to be experimenting by putting which of the following in her products (though not ones for sale)?

Answer: Bile

At the Good Humor property, Ilonka learns that Shasta named her company after the Greek humors. Her aim is to seek balance, not unlike the hourglass represents, and create items that help people seek it. At one of the tables nearby, her workers experiment with the humors.

There is something unique about Brightcliffe, Shasta repeats. The exact spot it was built was special, a nexus point unlike anything seen outside of Egypt, and with the four humors and the five sisters on that property, she believes the ritual actually worked. Shasta has been trying for decades to find a bit of the power that Ilonka has found at Brightcliffe, and that's why she extends an invitation to her to help the others at Good Humor and stay with them. She could have a home there if she wanted. Shasta lets her think on it and suggests that she bring Athena's journal next time she comes by. It might have valuable information to help her friends.

At Brightcliffe, Amesh stops by Natsuki's room with the suggestion that they take a walk through the woods. She rebuffs is suggestion, claiming she's not feeling up to it. She appreciates his eagerness to be around, but she sends him away.
4. Who takes Spencer home to his parents' house so that he can speak to his mother?

Answer: Mark

Mark pulls through on a favour, taking Spencer and Cheri on a drive from Brightcliffe to Spencer's family home, but Spencer heads in alone. His father stops him at the door to make sure everything's okay, but the reason he's there is to talk to his mother. She reluctantly listens as he reminds her that he is going to die. What he learned is that when Anya died, she was surrounded by people who loved her for who she was, and that was enough. The catch is that he feels, finally, that he will get the same feeling because it's enough for him without all the asterisks and emotional weight his mother put on him. As much as he would love a relationship with her, he won't beg for her love. Having said his peace, he leaves her with a kiss.

That night, when Spencer gets back to Brightcliffe, he says he would do it again. Cheri remarks that it's how he knows he did the right thing.

Dr. Stanton receives a call in her office and asks if the other person on the line is certain of the results because the news is wonderful. She asks for the results to be faxed so that she can have them placed in the patient's file.
5. When the Midnight Club returns to the library, they head inside to hear Natsuki's story.

Answer: False

Ilonka watches as the clock ticks to midnight and she heads on her way to the library. She comes across Amesh in the hallway waiting for Natsuki, but it doesn't seem clear as to whether or not she's attending the club meeting. They go without her, even though Amesh looks back on the way to make sure.

When the group reaches the library doors, however, they're still locked. Amesh decides to take the opportunity for a late-night walk alone and when he turns the corner into Brightcliffe's lobby, he finds Natsuki coming down the stairs. He apologizes to her for coming on too strong as of late and lets her know that he wouldn't feel bad if she wanted to dump him; she quickly lets him know he's overthinking things. She regrets the circumstances though; she wanted to tell her story to the club this night.

Natsuki and Amesh return to her room instead, sitting cozily by the fire there. She says that she didn't mean to shut him out. She actually wanted to let him in, but after Anya died, she was worried. It's why she wants to tell him her story-- 'Road to Nowhere'.
6. In Natsuki's story, Teresa ends up picking up two people looking for a ride. They claim to be which of the following?

Answer: Musicians in a rock band

Natsuki's story is about Teresa, a girl who's hard to know, and her tale occurs on a day when she just has to get away. Getting into the car, she leaves home and cranks up the radio. Her drive takes her down a quiet road through the woods-- no cars in sight-- and as she looks at herself in the rearview mirror, she nearly hits the man standing in the middle of the road with his guitar, facing her and smiling.

She slams on the brakes and avoids disaster and it's then, shaken by the moment, that she hears a tapping on her window.

It's a woman with another instrument and she claims she and her friend are off on their way to a gig. They ask for a ride if they're headed the same direction and she concedes, even though the situation is weird. The musicians get in and introduce themselves as Freedom Jack and Poppy Corn, and before long, they're off into the foggy night.
7. As Teresa keeps driving, she realizes which odd thing about her vehicle?

Answer: The gas seems to run down quicker than she expects

Freedom Jack and Poppy Corn ask Teresa where she's headed but she's not really sure. They sympathize with her eagerness to drive aimlessly until they come across someone else walking along the side of the road. Poppy suggests picking them up-- they might need help-- but Teresa is more hesitant. She drives by but glances back as she goes, seeing a young woman hidden by a hoodie walking alone.

Poppy calls out that Teresa only has a quarter tank of gas left which, to Teresa, is odd since she was more than half-full when she left home. Jack says she can go far on a quarter tank, but Poppy urges her pull over at the next station ahead. She listens to Poppy.

While Jack heads into the gas station to see if anyone's around, he tells Teresa to keep the car running while Poppy, staying in the back seat, remarks that it's unsafe to pick up hitchhikers, especially for young girls driving alone at night. Poppy asks a lot of questions-- weird questions about her childhood and her aspirations and her reasons for driving-- and says it's because she finds Teresa fascinating.

The questions are interrupted when a man comes by the car raving like a madman, claiming that the road doesn't seem to have anyone on it-- it goes on forever and no one's there. Lot of lost souls at rest stops, Poppy says. Poppy recommends that Teresa kill the engine, but Jack returns to the car before she does. He says there's no one at the station but as they drive off they see someone watching from the window.
8. Who of these continually suggests that Teresa keep the car running?

Answer: Freedom Jack

Back on the road, the drive only gets weirder. Teresa can't seem to roll her window down, and when a weird smell permeates the car, Jack lies that it's his joint. Poppy suggests pulling over. As they keep going, they seem to hit something that Teresa doesn't see. Jack leans over to tell her 'it's going to hurt', but neither she nor Poppy fully understand what he says. They pass by the hooded figure walking on the road ahead of them, somehow managing to have get ahead during their stop, but this time when Teresa looks, she sees a ghoulish figure.

Teresa pulls over at the next gas station at Poppy's insistence and they find it's nearly identical to the last one they saw. Jack says he'll go out and check it out to see if anyone's around, but he recommends keeping the car running, even if Poppy tries to convince Teresa otherwise. Teresa concedes because of the smell in the vehicle. She shuts it off and she and Poppy get out for fresh air, but it only takes a minute before Jack yells at them to get back inside and drive as fast as they can.

Jack and Poppy's attitudes only get weirder and it doesn't take much longer before Teresa says she'll pull over and let them out, no longer feeling comfortable with them. Jack, however, says that she should let them stay in the car because they could deal with her like they dealt with the first guy who gave them a ride earlier in the night. He reminds her: it's going to hurt.

Teresa starts coughing, overwhelmed by the smell in the car, and it seems like she's zoned out. She comments that she must be tired. Her tank is nearly empty. And that's when things start bouncing off her windshield. She sees the figure walking along the side of the road, but Jack tells her she can't stop yet. This time, the figure is more horrifying as she passes it, and she nearly takes her eyes off the road, barely avoiding hitting another figure in the fog.
9. At the end of 'Road to Nowhere', Freedom Jack and Poppy Corn turn out to be who of the following?

Answer: Teresa

To avoid hitting the kid, Teresa has to hit the brakes. Poppy suggests they get out to check on her, but Jack says the kid's just a lure. Someone uses a kid and they pops out of the bushes to kill driver when they unlock their doors; she can't do it. Teresa can't help but turn off the engine and check on the girl though; she recognizes her from somewhere. As the girl runs away, Poppy says she'll come along with Teresa to follow her. Jack stays with the car.

Teresa and Poppy end up at the gas station again, this time finding it illuminated by Christmas lights. The smell from the car continues to surround them; Teresa sees the gas pumps leaking as they near the building. Poppy says the girl is probably in the garage and tells her to open the door just as Jack returns and tells her to keep it shut and get back into the car. She opens it though, finding an idling vehicle inside, and when she checks the driver's seat she finds herself sitting behind the wheel, unconscious in the fumes and wearing a pink hoodie.

Turning to look at Jack and Poppy for answers, she sees that they're actually ghouls. They tell her she never left the garage; she's dying. Jack tells her it'll be painful if she stays alive, so she should let the car ride all night. Poppy reminds her that life will be hard if she stays, but she's fighting for her. Teresa asks who Jack and Poppy are and they tell her that they're both her.

Teresa opens the car door and lets herself come to consciousness. Crying, she turns off the vehicle, crawls out from behind the steering wheel, and drags herself to the garage door opener, finally granting herself the fresh air she needs. It was the longest drive of her life.
10. Ilonka hears crying coming from the chamber beneath Brightcliffe. When she makes it down to investigate, she finds who in the room?

Answer: Kevin

Natsuki tells Amesh that Teresa chose to stay, but she's not sure if it mattered. She changed the ending a little. It's a better story when she opens the garage door, but originally she got out of the car and didn't get further. Her mother came home and smelled the gas and came in to find her daughter dying on the ground, and after calling the ambulance and finally ensuring that her daughter would make it, the doctors told her that Teresa was still going to die, albeit by something else inside of her.

Amesh tells Natsuki that he's simply glad she's there, even if for only a little while longer. She bemoans her depression and says that before, she wanted so badly to die, but once she survived, she realized how much she wanted to live. Then she found out she was dying anyway. Amesh says he doesn't know what to do, but Natsuki pulls him in for a kiss. She says that she told him the story because she wants him to know her and she wants him to stay.

Ilonka, still awake in her bed, hears a girl crying somewhere in the building and follows the weeping to the elevator shaft, quietly getting inside and heading down to the ritual chamber. She feels around in the dark for a flashlight and shines it to find the ghostly woman pacing the floor. Ilonka, deciding to get to the bottom of the situation, confronts the woman and turns her around to find that it's not a ghost at all, but Kevin. Frightened, Kevin looks around and wonders for a moment, remarking "not again."
