Answer: A laboratory

The story opens with Jamie sitting at a table. His neck is covered in blood yet he has a grin on his face. He proceeds to tell a man that no man has ever loved a woman like he has, because his experience is much different from theirs. The man accuses him of murder an Jamie says that one could call it that, though it wouldn't necessarily be correct.

The man asks Jamie to humour him and tell his story again until it makes sense. Jamie begins with what he started with. He woke up, got dressed, and went to work at the Cougar Culinary Laboratory in Chicago.

The lab makes artificial flavouring for food additives. When Jamie went to work, he talked to his friend, Wally over dinner. Wally proposed that he take a bachelor's night out and watch his band perform. Since Jamie was hesitant to go, he decided against it and returned to his empty apartment.

Answer: Jasmine tea

When Jamie returned home, he quickly made himself a dinner (which evidently turned out bad, and watched a few minutes of TV before heading to bed. When he sat down on the bed, he stared at a picture of his son before saying how much he missed him. He quickly fell asleep after. During the night, Jamie woke up from a dream (that he regards later on as a wish-fulfillment dream after eating loads of salad) with the taste of chocolate in his mouth.

As he tells the story to the man at the table, he notes that it wasn't his chocolate though, and that it must've been a dream.

He says that it was custom chocolate; somewhat bittersweet with a hint of jasmine tea.

Answer: Dance

The next day, Jamie went to visit his son and ex-wife at her house in the suburbs. Jamie was somewhat surprised at the fact that his wife had quickly begun dating again and she was back to habits that she had before they got married. When Jamie's son, Booth, came downstairs, Jamie decided to give him a key to his place downtown, and tell his son that he would be having two places to live from then on.

He also told his son that they would have a hiking trip that weekend, just the two of them. Booth asked if he didn't need to dance, and Jamie said he definitely wouldn't. After this, Jamie decided to visit Wally across town at his rock band gig. Getting a front row seat, Jamie visited Wally backstage and was quickly rushed back for the show.

Answer: A quarter

While backstage, Wally had told his 'groupies' that Jamie could do a clever trick with a quarter, however, since the show was about to begin, he did not have time to show it. When Jamie got his front row seat, he tried to avoid the loud music by covering his ears, which proved effective, however, when one of the groupies came and sat across from him, she asked him to do the quarter trick.

He agreed, but when he was fishing through his pocket for a quarter, all of the noise in the room ceased. Jamie looked around in disbelief and soon heard classical music and the sound of a cork popping out of a wine bottle.

When he couldn't communicate with the girl across from him, she left, and Jamie sat in wonder until the music in the club blasted back to its original sound.

Answer: Hypoglycemia

On the way home from Wally's gig, Jamie decided to give him a ride. However, halfway home, Jamie's view of the road morphed into another view of someone's vision walking through village streets at night. Jamie quickly woke up Wally and asked him to take the wheel as he couldn't see. Soon, Jamie and Wally nearly hit a large truck, as Jamie was barely able to swerve out of the way. When they crashed into the ditch, Jamie's vision came back. Wally was impressed with the stunt.
That night, Jamie was asleep in bed. When he opened his eyes, he was awakened by a man holding a lighter in the dark. Jamie quickly got up and turned on the light to find no one there. Jamie searched around his house and found the man in the dark in his hallway, but when he turned on the light, the man disappeared.
The next morning, Jamie went to the grocery store to run errands and met Elaine there. Since both of them were dieting, Jamie suggested that they celebrate, and he invited her over for dinner.

Answer: Seven

Jamie told this to Elaine when she asked about the white ring around his finger. He claimed that he had a monogamous seven year relationship before divorcing his wife. That night, Jamie and Elaine made love. When they were finished, however, Jamie had severe stomach pains.

He claimed it was because of the food, but they still had an unnecessary twinge to them. Elaine gave him some medication before they fell asleep. The next morning, Jamie woke up to find himself in someone else's bed although he knew he was really in his apartment.

He found that it was another of his visions before the man from his apartment two nights earlier walked in. He realized it was a woman whose body he was inhabiting as the man and his mystery body made love. Elaine found that he was acting weird because of it and begged him to stop as Booth and his ex-wife walked in to wake him up.

When his ex-wife saw Elaine and Jamie, she took Booth and left. As soon as he snapped out of the vision, Jamie watched as Elaine left as well.

Answer: By eating chocolate

After Elaine left, Jamie went to the bathroom to shave. During this, he accidentally cut himself while sneezing and shaving. It's at this point that the classical music commenced once again. In this vision, he saw his female host write a love letter. He tells the man at the table in present day that he never realized how shallow his life had been at that point. He never knew how it felt to feel with both your heart and your gut.
At the lab, Jamie sat in front of the fish tank, gazing at the water when he had another vision, this time showing the face of his host in a mirror. He told her not to go as he snapped back out of the vision to find Wally behind him, confused at the situation.
That night, Jamie sampled some chocolate to see if it would spawn a new vision.

Answer: Her boyfriend, cheating on her

Jamie had another spell after the chocolate idea, this time bringing him into his host's bathroom as she prepared for a shower. Jamie followed along feeling the same sensations that she did until he snapped back out of it. He later told Wally about the visions that he'd been having and that it was about a woman. The only catch is that he'd never actually met her. Wally relates it to possession, but Jamie says it's not since he's never met her. Jamie realized he might not want the visions to stop since the woman may 'need' him.
He once again ate the chocolate the next night in the candlelight in his apartment, this time, seeing as she drew a picture of a tiger.
He had another vision in bed that night, this time watching the woman going up a stairwell to find her boyfriend, the man from Jamie's apartment, making love to another woman. She slapped him, but the man retaliated, slapping her back and strangling her. Jamie sensed the feeling of this as well.

Jamie's final vision came that night as well...this time, it involved his host in bed as her cheating boyfriend crawled on top of her. Taking a knife, she sliced him in the stomach, cutting him up to his chest. Jamie tells the man at the table that he felt depraved and filthy at that point, as if he had actually murdered the man. After that, the visions stopped completely.
Feeling that he needed to find her, whether it be for closure or for a new beginning, Jamie linked together pieces of his past visions, including sights, sounds, license plates, and times, and discovered that the woman was from British Columbia. He went there next, hoping to find her.
When he arrived, he found that the man who cheated on her had actually been killed. His story was on the front page of the newspaper. He ended up visiting a chocolate shop as well, opting to buy the jasmine chocolates.
With the newspaper as a guide, Jamie went to the art gallery owned by the mystery woman's murdered boyfriend. Despite the fact that it was taped off, he broke in anyways and found a picture of the mystery woman titled 'Catherine'. When he looked out the window, he luckily saw her car speeding off, and caught the license plate number as she drove away.

When Jamie tracked down her apartment, he offered her the chocolates when she opened the door, but she slammed it on his face as she was reminded of her victim. Jamie followed Catherine around the city until she finally confronted him about it. He claimed that he saw her drawing the tiger at the zoo and he charmed her into having a talk. Over lunch, he revealed everything that had happened with their senses being linked. Catherine didn't take this well though, and decided to go home. Jamie followed until they got back and found the cops at her door. It was then that he revealed that he knew that she had to kill her ex.
In present time, Jamie tells the man at the table that he has spent days wondering why he was the only one getting the visions. He explains that it may have been because he was such an empty person and that she was so full.
Jamie claimed that although he knew what she did, he would do anything to help her because he loved her. She asks if he'll take her home. When they arrived, the cops were gone.
When Jamie entered her apartment, he recognized it from the visions. He assured her that everything would be okay and they claimed that they loved each other. She served him a drink and they began to kiss before Jamie noticed that he started to feel dizzy. He never realized the pills she put into his drink. She quickly picked up a gun and held it to his chin, saying that he should never have come. They quickly fought over it, and Jamie got shot in the leg. Using some of the instruments from around her apartment, Jamie's arm was cut, but he managed to stop her from shooting him by plunging a knife into her hand. As soon as Jamie got the gun, however, he had another vision, this time of Catherine looking directly at him. Catherine realized this and took the opportunity to try and attack him, however, firing the gun three times, Jamie killed her.
Jamie tells the man at the table, it was then that he knew what it felt like to die.
The man at the table, a detective, tells him that it's not an easy story to swallow. The police wheel Catherine's body out on a stretcher, and they escort Jamie to the ambulance waiting outside.
