Willie called Maggie a speedball, which is hilarious since she was minding her own business and he was the one coming on fast and bothering her. Willie Loomis was a menacing character, disrespectful to men and downright threatening to women.

Jason was anxious to keep Willie away from Collinwood until he could get Elizabeth to agree to most of his demands, but Willie was in less-than-glamorous lodgings and wanted to be right on the spot in Collinwood.

Willie and Burke Devlin ended up squaring off at the Blue Whale. Burke was furious when he learned that Willie was menacing the ladies of Collinwood. Though Willie drew a knife, Burke managed to knock him out.

Burke kissed Carolyn, even though by that time he was already showing signs of wanting Vicky. He liked both Bill Malloy and Mrs. Johnson, but probably wasn't interested in romantic activity with either.

Roger found Vicky's interest in David's talents inexplicable. He called her 'Miss Pollyanna in a world of pain' because he thought she was too naïve for her own good. He probably envied her innocence. He also whined about having been full of joy and love when himself a child, yet believed David should know how bad the world was so as not to be surprised later.

When Vicky was left at the foundling home in New York, the only thing she had with her was a letter stating her name and the fact that whoever left her was unable to take care of her. Vicky carried this heartbreaking note with her for the rest of her life at Collinwood. It is largely surmised that she was the firstborn daughter of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard.
