Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The race's first Detour, faced by teams in Calgary, Alberta, was a choice between 'Batter' and 'Beat'. Which involved food?

Answer: 'Batter'

Teams had the opportunity to engage with two completely different tasks as they wrapped up a long first leg of the race. In 'Batter', they were able to make pancakes in Downtown Calgary, serving six people their orders (though with complications, of course!) while in 'Beat', they could join the drum circle at Olympic Plaza and work in sync to perform with the group. Six teams completed 'Batter' while four completed 'Beat'.
2. Both Detour tasks in Smithers, B.C. (in Leg 2) ended with teams transporting items using which of these as a conveyance?

Answer: Horse-drawn carriage

Though both Detour options involved food, both involved taking that food to its final destination by one of the provided horse-drawn carriages waiting at each station. In 'Stuff', teams had to make sausages at a local butchery, bringing a dozen of them to the Smithers Brewing Co. building to get their next clue. In 'Fold', teams constructed egg cartons and delivered eggs, ideally unbroken, to the Two Sisters Cafe.

Ty and Kat, Tyler and Kayleen, Ben and Anwar, Jermaine and Justin, and Allie and Eddie all finished 'Stuff' while Gracie and Lily, Derek and Jaspal, Shayla and Joel, and Deven and Amanda got through 'Fold'.
3. The 'Water' Detour task, encountered in Whistler, B.C. in Leg 3, took teams to which of these types of locations?

Answer: Spa

Arriving in Whistler in Leg 3, teams immediately chose between two word-based Detour tasks-- 'Woods' and 'Water'. 'Woods', the tougher of the two, had teams heading into the forests around the Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre where they had to locate ten plaques, memorize ten items, and recall those items in English, Squamish, and Lil'Wat. If they could match them all correctly, they'd get their clue. Shayla and Joel, Ben and Anwar, and Deven and Amanda finished this task.

The other teams chose 'Water', which took them to the Scandinave Spa to solve a one-word puzzle by jumping into an icy cold plunge pool and a hot plunge pool to figure it out.
4. The 'By Sea' Detour option teams encountered in Tofino, B.C. (in Leg 5) had racers harvesting which of these from the Pacific Ocean?

Answer: Kelp

Racers completed their fifth leg of the race in and around Tofino and Ucluelet, British Columbia, and with that came a Detour task that allowed them to spend time by the Pacific Ocean. In 'By Sea', teams headed out to Clayoquot Sound to collect twenty kilograms of fresh kelp to be made into food products while in 'By Sand', teams completed the classic "Amazing Race" task of hunting for a sand dollar in hundreds of sandcastles, rebuilding the sandcastles if they didn't find anything inside. Most teams completed the 'By Sea' task; only Derek and Jaspal and Jermaine and Justin finished 'By Sand'.
5. Which team used an Express Pass to skip the Blind Detour task in Leg 6?

Answer: Ty and Kat

Teams could choose at their whims in Leg 6 as they were presented with a simple choice between 'Here' and 'There', each of which sent them to an address thirty minutes out of St. Catharines, Ontario with no further instructions until their arrival. In 'Here', teams had the less labour-intensive task of using detail-orientation to create three complex floral bouquets while in 'There', teams had to learn how to paddle a double scull on the Welland Canal. Most teams inadvertently made it to 'Here' while Ty and Kat and Derek and Jaspal visited the water. Ty and Kat, the last team with an Express Pass in hand, used it to pass the challenge entirely.
6. In Windsor, Ontario, teams faced a limited-station Detour, restricting how many teams could participate at once. How many teams could work at the 'Sculpt' or 'Swing' Detour task at the same time?

Answer: Three

Heading into Windsor, Ontario, the remaining six teams were hit with an early Detour task which warned that there would be limited opportunities on both sides of the selection. In both cases, only three teams would be able to work away at their task at a time, first-come-first-serve.

This meant that the first train of racing teams got into 'Sculpt' quickly, sending them to build a sculpture puzzle along the edge of the Detroit River. The remaining teams completed 'Swing' at Willistead Manor, forcing them to learn a two-minute swing dance routine to the approval of an instructor.
7. In Saguenay, Quebec, all five teams rode which of these, completing the same Detour task for Leg 8?

Answer: Go-karts

The five teams heading through this part of Quebec in Leg 8 had a choice between cold and quick as they selected 'Snow' or 'Go'. While all five teams went for 'Go', it wasn't the easier of the two; they had to head to Centre Amusement SPK and ride a go-kart track in exactly one minute to claim their next clue as a reward. If the teams went for 'Snow' instead, they would have created snow art in the Snow Room at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, doing so in -20C temperatures.
8. Neither Leg 9 nor Leg 10 of the race contained a Detour.

Answer: True

Legs 4, 9, and 10 did not contain Detour options, leaving only seven legs of this ten-leg race to feature this clue style. While this did meant that teams did have to approach several legs linearly, the amount of self-driving seen this season was also more significant; teams were more apt to get lost.

More legs of the race this season had Road Blocks with only Legs 4 and 7 omitting them.
9. During the race, teams were able to use a new item called the Desjardins Assist to get a leg up on certain tasks. How many Detours allowed this over the course of the race?

Answer: None

Although racers occasionally found use for this new race mechanic during Road Block tasks, the Assist was most frequently used for active Route Info tasks that required a quantity of completed or found items. With this pseudo-Express Pass, racers could hand in the Assist, usable on one task per leg until Leg 6, to make the specified task a bit easier to complete. Choosing when in the race to use it would be the tough part. Since Detours are a choice between two tasks, it's likely the Assist was not usable for any because it would've required balanced use on both sides of the Detour.
10. Did this season of "The Amazing Race Canada" utilize any variation of the U-Turn?

Answer: No

Though the U-Turn and Double U-Turn has been seen in past seasons of "The Amazing Race Canada", it started seeing omission from the race course starting in "The Amazing Race Canada 7" and failed to return after the show resumed filming post-COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, racers had to make use of the Double Pass over the course of the season (encountering it in a handful of legs), shifting placements and leading to the elimination of a team as a direct result. The Pass, however, does not have an influence on the Detour in the same way.
