Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team was able to snag the last seats on the first train to Windsor, Ontario in Leg 7?

Answer: Tyler and Kayleen

Teams finished Leg 6 at Fort Mississauga only to be told they were continuing racing onward immediately into Leg 7. With Ty and Kat and Ben and Anwar already heading to the charter bus to catch their VIA Rail train with tickets in-hand, the other four teams were faced with a little pop quiz for the last seats on the first ride out-- Tyler and Kayleen took these seats, answering questions about their previous legs. The other three teams had to take the later train, arriving ten minutes later.

Clues directed teams further southwest to Windsor, Ontario where their next clues would be waiting in a fleet of Chevrolet Equinox RS vehicles outside the train station. On the train, teams also discovered that they would win $5,000 from Samsung if they completed the first challenge of the leg in first place.
2. Racers completing the 'Swing' Detour task in Windsor had to do which of these activities?

Answer: Dance

Arriving in Windsor, teams took off to the Adventure Bay Waterpark, an indoor amusement facility where they had to collect three coloured rubber ducks from around the slides and pools to collect their next clue. After Tyler and Kayleen claimed the $5,000 reward for being first to complete the task, they were able to open their Detour clue, a choice between 'Sculpt' and 'Swing', both of which had limited stations.

In 'Swing', teams needed to drive to Willistead Manor, dress in costumes, and learn a two-minute swing dance routine while in 'Sculpt', teams headed to the Windsor Sculpture Park on the edge of the Detroit River and solved a complicated twelve-piece sculpture puzzle. Nearly all teams went to 'Sculpt', but the last three teams had to switch to 'Swing' to avoid waiting.
3. What gambling activity did teams need to participate in for their Face-Off in Leg 7?

Answer: Poker

Finishing the Detour, teams were informed that they would be diving into a Face-Off, taking turns going head-to-head in a game of Texas Hold 'Em. Going to the Rock Bottom Bar & Grill, teams would be given two cards face-down and engage in ten games of poker with the winning team-- the one with the most chips-- getting their next clue and the losing team facing off against the next one in line.

The last team to depart the challenge, ?????, had to wait out a fifteen minute time penalty before continuing on.
4. Racers heading into the region around Windsor, Ontario learned about which of these sources of renewable energy?

Answer: Wind power

Following their Face-Off, teams drove out of Windsor and to the town of Port Alma to find their next clue waiting at the Kruger Energy Wind Turbine Farm. What resulted was a fair bit of math as they needed to provide the number of houses that a single wind turbine could power in a day. To get this, they had to count the number of revolutions of the turbine and then, feeding that into a formula, one team member would climb into the turbine to get their remaining values to solve for a total of 720 homes. Getting that number right would net the team their clue.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 7 at Canada's southernmost point?

Answer: Derek and Jaspal

Upon completing the wind turbine challenge, teams could drive themselves to the race's seventh Pit Stop waiting for them at the southernmost point of Canada along the sandbanks of Point Pelee National Park. Ty and Kat regained their first place position after the Face-Off, this time winning a trip for two to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from Expedia.ca and winning their fourth leg out of seven thus far. Losing the Face-Off proved to be a death knell for Derek and Jaspal who, landing on the mat in sixth place, were eliminated.
6. In the Saguenay Region of Quebec, teams searched for nano-sized French words on a piece of which of these?

Answer: Aluminum

Teams took off from the southernmost reach of Canada in the eighth leg and were told that they'd be travelling thirteen hundred kilometres east to the Saguenay Region of Quebec and, to their dismay, they'd be facing a Double Pass up ahead on the course. Getting there proved tough. Not only did teams need to take a Via Rail train across Southern Ontario to Montreal, but from there they needed to get a plane to Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

Upon landing, teams could find their next clues in waiting in a hidden compartment of their Chevrolet Silverado HD trucks and they would be able to drive to the Rio Tinto Arvida Research and Development Centre. There, using a digital microscope, they could locate a nano-sized word on a piece of aluminum and get their next clue.
7. In Leg 8, all five teams completed which Detour option in the Saguenay Region?

Answer: 'Go'

Once teams left the aluminium behind they could open their Detours and choose between 'Snow' or 'Go'. None of the teams ended up going for 'Snow', in which they would have visited the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and located the Pavillon Parc Technologique.

There, they would have located the Snow Room and recreated a spray-painted stencil image on a frame of snow. Instead, all teams went to the Centre Amusement SPK and attempted to complete a go-kart track in exactly sixty seconds.
8. No teams appeared on the Double Pass board in Quebec in Leg 8.

Answer: True

Racers completing the Detour needed to drive themselves to the Pont d'aluminium d'Arvida as soon as they could afterwards as this would be the site at which they would find the Double Pass waiting for them. While the one earlier in the race was a Blind Double Pass, this one would have had racers noting their influence. None of the teams used it.

Once this spot was passed by, teams headed thirty kilometres southeast to Centre Plein Air Bec-Scie in La Baie where they had to carry a tourtière across a tricky obstacle course through the woods to a group of diners at the end.
9. Teams were warned that their Quebec Road Block (in Leg 8) would be held over which of these?

Answer: Deep water

Finishing their tourtière tasks, teams ripped open a Road Block clue that asked them 'who wants to be a rock star?' Naturally, that would send them somewhere unexpected. Teams had to travel to Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux in Saint-Fulgence to find the majestic Saguenay Fjord.

There, the chosen racer would harness up and traverse a vertical rock face, hooking into the guide wire of the via ferrata. Along their route they would need to memorize a specific code (M=14, E=22) and use it to solve a puzzle that would lead them to their next destination: LA PULPERIE. Kat, Kayleen, Amanda, Anwar, and Justin were selected for this.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in the Saguenay Region in Leg 8?

Answer: Jermaine and Justin

Racers left the Road Block and headed twenty-five kilometres through Saguenay to the city of Chicoutimi bound for La Pulperie de Chicoutimi, at one time the largest wood pulp producer in the world. This leg was won by Tyler and Kayleen, who jostled with first place alongside Ty and Kat all leg. For their win, they took a trip for two to Valparaiso, Chile courtesy of Expedia.ca.

The last team to check in this time, for the third time in the race, was Jermaine and Justin. This time, they weren't spared from elimination, leaving the race in fifth place.
