Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Nick continues to search for answers about his father's death, but when he goes to the police, he talks to a different detective than he did at the helicopter wreckage. What happened to the cop (Angelina Adams) who was initially investigating Dutch's murder, according to the detective to whom Nick talked?

Answer: She transferred to follow her actor boyfriend

Nick decides to go to the police with the suspicious dossier on Simon Elder, despite his wife's reluctance to accuse "the richest man in the world" and Tripp's belief that Elder is untouchable. Nick is surprised to learn Detective Adams has been transferred, but talks to a different detective who promises to look into things.

However, less than twenty-four hours later, the detective says there's nothing incriminating in the folder. Nick is immediately suspicious that Adams was transferred because she was actually willing to investigate matters.

The detective dismisses this notion by telling Nick that Adams moved to Los Angeles with her boyfriend, an aspiring actor. Whether this is true or not has yet to be determined.
2. The main plot of this episode involved a blackmail demand over a lewd tape produced by one of the Darlings. Nick asked all of the Darling children whether the tape might be theirs. Which was NOT a way one of the Darlings denied making the tape?

Answer: I wouldn't jeopardize my political career

Patrick denies ever making a tape because he does not think they're romantic. A better reason might have involved not jeopardizing his career, but this is not the response Patrick gives. However, Patrick's extramarital affair could provide just as much fodder for the media, so Patrick already has a few secrets he'd prefer to keep buried. Jeremy claims to have had a collection of celebrity videos - including one of Buddy Ebsen - but not a personal tape. Perhaps most startling is Juliet's declaration that she's never 'fooled around' with anyone, despite her less-than-pure reputation.
3. Soon after Nick questions the Darling family, a copy of the tape is sent to the family publicist and Nick discovers who the culprit is. Which Darling made the tape?

Answer: Karen

Initially, both Nick and the family publicist believe that Patrick is involved. The blackmailers release the audio portion of the tape with the demand for a million dollars as proof that the tape exists. Apparently, a mannish voice says "Paddy" at some point on the tape.

However, Nick interviews the family and no one admits anything. The publicist is not as easily convinced, succinctly saying "Darlings lie." When the blackmailers provide a copy of the tape, we learn that the mannish voice is actually Karen's, and that she says 'caddy' (not 'Paddy').

Her companion on the tape is her golf-pro fiancé Freddy's caddy.
4. Nick sets up a time and meeting place with the blackmailers, but the exchange does not go as planned. Why were the blackmailers unable to give Nick the tape?

Answer: They received a better offer for it

Karen gives Nick instructions to a bank vault the Darlings have, and tells him to withdraw the million dollars to pay the blackmail. When Nick arrives, he is staggered by the amount of money - both in cash and gold bars. The banker reveals the Darlings have many such vaults around the city. Nick is rather uncertain of his ground, so he asks the banker if he needs to give an explanation for withdrawing the banker.

The banker hastily replies that he wants no explanations; Dutch used to withdraw money at times and now Nick will. Nick seems floored by the entire transaction.

However, when Nick shows up at the blackmail location, the blackmailer's girlfriend fearfully informs Nick that someone else made a much larger offer and so the tape has already been sold to an anonymous buyer.
5. Patrick, intoxicated and distressed over his breakup with Carmelita, crashes his car. Who is arrested for Patrick's drunk driving accident?

Answer: Clark

Patrick breaks up with Carmelita in accordance with his father's wishes. However, Patrick is extremely upset and goes to a bar with his faithful chauffeur Clark. Clark tries to get Patrick to leave (because Patrick is about to give an important campaign speech), but Patrick takes shot after shot. Clark finally pries him away from the bar, but Patrick insists on driving and promptly runs the car into a fire hydrant.

By the time Nick arrives on the scene to convince a belligerent Patrick to get ready for his campaign speech, the policeman say that there are too many gawkers for no one to get arrested. Clark promptly offers his wrists to the cop, telling Nick that it's 'standard procedure.'
6. Meanwhile, Brian is trying hard to maintain the charade that Brian Jr. is a Swedish orphan. When does Brian's wife realize (not merely become suspicious) that 'Gustave' speaks English?

Answer: When he enquires about "SpongeBob SquarePants" on TV

Brian's wife becomes suspicious when Brian Jr. pipes up with "Amen" in response to Brian saying grace before dinner. Brian, clearly flustered, tells her that "Amen" is the same in Swedish as it is in English. She doesn't quite buy it, but she doesn't say anything more about it.

However, later, Brian Jr. is watching TV with his half-siblings and wonders "How come the sponge eats burgers underwater and the buns don't get soggy?" in reference to the cartoon "SpongeBob SquarePants." Brian can no longer deny that the boy speaks English, so he stages an elaborate 'talk' with Brian Jr. (in front of his wife) about the child's 'dishonesty.' Brian Jr. is extremely confused by the conflicting signals his father is sending, but does not reveal his secret.
7. How does Juliet refer to her and Jeremy's special bond?

Answer: Twin-tuition

Juliet refers to her "twin-tuition" several times throughout this episode. She believes that she and Jeremy have a special connection that allows her to know when he's hurt or in trouble (she cites a time where Jeremy fell down Elton John's well as an example of this). Additionally, she believes that this intuition allows her to read Jeremy's thoughts and feelings better. Throughout this episode, her "twin-tuition" tells her that Jeremy likes Natalie (her sworn enemy, as evidenced by the well-documented red carpet catfight the two have). Jeremy's sticking up for his sister against Natalie convinces Juliet that her instincts about the couple were wrong.

However, later events reveal that - in this case - her "twin-tuition" was dead on.
8. Is Patrick still with Carmelita at the end of this episode?

Answer: Yes

Patrick does break it off with Carmelita after being pressured by his father, but is miserably unhappy. His drinking binge and car collision are proof of his dejection (and irresponsibility). However, Nick manages to perk Patrick up with some inspirational words, motivating Patrick to give a wonderful campaign speech and get his life back in order again. One of the final scenes of the episode shows Patrick pulling up beside Nick and thanking him for the great advice.

He then announced that he and Carmelita are back together (in fact, Carmelita's in the car too). Nick is not thrilled, seeing as their relationship endangers Patrick's political aspirations, but is happy that Patrick is making his own decisions.
9. Which Darling makes an expensive jewelry purchase from Bulgari following Patrick's campaign speech?

Answer: Jeremy

Patrick's campaign speech is held at Bulgari, which is one of the reasons Natalie insisted on going. She wanted to get some of the promotional items Bulgari would have. Natalie shows up against Jeremy's wishes, and gets embroiled in a messy argument with Juliet (again, about bangs and perfumes and such). Jeremy ends up supporting Juliet in the fight, prompting Natalie to flounce off in anger.

As an apology, Jeremy visits Natalie later and presents her with a handbag and an expensive-looking necklace.

It appears that the bag and the necklace are just the promotional 'swag' Natalie was hoping to get, but Letitia receives a call from Bulgari verifying the delivery of some very expensive jewelry purchase. Letitia believes that the "J. Darling" who signed for the purchase is Juliet. Juliet goes along with this assumption, but angrily realizes that Jeremy bought the jewelry for a secret girlfriend.
10. Does Nick recover the campaign-damaging tape by the end of the episode?

Answer: Yes

Nick assumes that whoever purchased Karen's tape is going to release it to the general public, and begins preparing Tripp for the coming scandal. However, later, as Nick is walking up to his home, a man approaches him with a manila envelope containing all copies of the tape. Nick is confused, but accepts the tape eagerly.

The man explains that his boss, Simon Elder, bought the tape for three million dollars, and cautions Nick that neither Elder nor Tripp are "the men [he] thinks they are." The man then turns away, leaving behind a pensive Nick.
