Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The series "All Creatures Great and Small" was set in what English county?

Answer: Yorkshire

"All Creatures Great and Small" (both versions) is based on the novels of James Herriott, a veterinarian who practiced in northern England (Yorkshire).

The first version of the show (1978-1990) is notable for introducing Peter Davison, who went on to become the Fifth Doctor on "Doctor Who" in 1981. The second version began in 2020 with Nicholas Ralph as Herriott.

Yorkshire is the largest historic district in England and one of the oldest. Its history dates to before the Roman invasion, and the city of York has been around for almost 2000 years, started as a Roman fortress. Major cities in the region include Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, and Wakefield.
2. Of the original cast members of "The Great British Bake Off" which one stayed around after the shift to Channel Four in 2016?

Answer: Paul Hollywood

Paul Hollywood stuck around, and was with the show through into the 2020s. Born in 1966, Hollywood is the son of a baker. He went into the family business and eventually became a prominent celebrity chef, appearing on a variety of British television programmes. Hollywood is also a prolific author, writing around a dozen cookbooks.

"The Great British Bake Off" began in 2010, with Hollywood and Mary Berry as the judges and Perkins and Giedroyc as the quirky hosts. The show pits amateur bakers from around the UK against each other, challenging them to bake items that they often have never made before. The show has been an enormous success, with more than a dozen seasons and over 120 episodes.
3. Which cast member from "SCTV" starred in "Great News"?

Answer: Andrea Martin

Andrea Martin is technically an American, born in Portland, Maine in 1947, but she is most associated with the Canadian comedy show "SCTV" from 1976 to 1984. The show had its roots in Toronto's Second City comedy troupe. In the decades since, Martin has made dozens of films and numerous television appearances.

"Great News" aired on NBC for two seasons in 2017 and 2018. The show was set on a television news program called "Breakdown". Martin played Carol Wendelson, the mother of producer Katie Wendelson (Briga Heelan), who becomes an intern on her daughter's show. Nicole Richie and John Michael Higgins played the co-anchors of the news show.
4. What type of workplace was the setting for the series "The Great Indoors"?

Answer: An outdoors magazine

"The Great Indoors" aired on CBS during the 2016-2107 season and starred Joel McHale of "Community" fame as a former adventure journalist called on to be the editor to a group of young reporter. Legendary British comedian Stephen Fry played the founder of the magazine.

The show's comedy comes from the inter-generational tension between McHale and his younger staff and his character, Jack, learning to work indoors after years of being out in the wild. The show was criticized for being formulaic and relying too heavily on a single joke.
5. What was the first name of the title character in "The Great Guildersleeve"?

Answer: Throckmorton

"The Great Guildersleeve" was a hugely successful radio show (1941-1958) on both NBC and CBS radio that had a brief life on NBC television from 1955 to 1958. Willard Waterman played Throckmorton Guildersleeve on television.

Waterman appeared in forty episodes. The other regulars were his nephew Leroy (Ronald Keith), housekeeper Birdie (Lillian Randolph) and secretary Bessie (Barbara Stuart).
6. What future superhero star got his start on the 1992 sitcom "Great Scott"?

Answer: Tobey Maguire

"Great Scott" was a short-lived (October-November 1992) family comedy on Fox that is most notable as the first starring television role for Tobey Maguire. Maguire played the title character, Scott Melrod. The show had sort of a "Water Mitty" aspect to it, as it focused on the imagination of the title character. Nancy Lenehan was his mother Beverly, Ray Baker was his father Walter and Sarah Koskoff was his sister Nina.

Maguire moved into making films shortly after, appearing in "This Boy's Life" (1993), partly with the help of Leonardo DiCaprio. Maguire would star as Peter Parker in the "Spider-Man" trilogy (2002-2007).
7. "Great Minds with Don Harmon" featured conversations with what type of individuals?

Answer: Historical people

In "Great Minds" comedy writer Don Harmon uses a time machine to bring historic figures to the present so he can interview them for the History Channel. The show aired on the History Channel for fifteen episodes from February to June 2016.

Guests of Harmon include Ludwig von Beethoven (Jack Black), Thomas Edison (Jason Sudeikis), Sigmund Freud (Nick Kroll) and John F Kennedy (Dana Carvey). The show had a twisted sense of humor, with historical figures often encountering the present in bizarre ways.

Harmon is most famous for creating the sitcom "Community" (2009-2015) and the animated cartoon series "Rick and Morty" (started in 2013). While he has worked on a few films, the vast majority of Harmon's work has been in television.
8. In "It's a Great Life" (1954) future "Andy Griffith Show" star Frances Bavier makes her living doing what?

Answer: Running a rooming house

"It's a Great Life" is set in a rooming house, with Bavier as landlady Amy Morgan. Her tenants include Steve Connors (William Bishop) and Denny Davis (Michael O'Shea), two World War II veterans. The show focuses on the romantic misadventures of the two young men.

Barbara Bates played Cathy, the daughter of Amy and James Dunn was Amy's brother-in-law Earl, who often had get-rich-quick schemes.
9. In the 2018 show "Great Doctor Scott", what kind of doctor is Scott Miller?

Answer: Veterinarian

In a real-life take on "All Creatures", "Great Doctor Scott" follows veterinarian Scott Miller as he treats animals in the British town of Richmond upon Thames, a suburb of London.

The show ran for thirty-six episodes from October 2018 to June 2019. While most of his patients were dogs and cats, Miller treated everything ranging from birds to meerkats.
10. The long running cooking series "Great Chefs of the World" began with a look at chefs in what American city?

Answer: New Orleans

"The Great Chefs" series began in 1982 with the chefs of New Orleans. The show had cooks in their own kitchens preparing their favorite dishes. It was a huge success that eventually ran from 1982 until 1998. The series began on PBS and moved to the Discovery Channel.

By the time it ended, the show had covered over one thousand chefs over 656 episodes.
