Jess and Tasha meet with Agent Ross of the FBI and Jess wants to tell her everything but Tasha thinks it's a bad idea. Jess tells Agent Ross that their friend was kidnapped, former FBI Agent Peter Sadusky died under mysterious circumstances and she has an ancient Aztec artifact that someone is after. Tasha lies about their names telling Agent Ross their friend who was kidnapped is Sam Samuels. Agent Ross tells them that she knows they are playing a prank on her and that for her to investigate further they have to file an official report. Even though Jess and Tasha decide against filing an official report, Agent Ross starts investigating their claims off the record.

While on the bus to the USS Kidd museum gift shop, Jess tries to figure out the markings on the Aztec relic. At first Jess can't turn the dials but then when she uses Tasha's smartphone compass to align the relic to face due north, the dials are able to be spun. Eventually she figures out that she has to align the sun, rabbit, ground and briar patch images for the relic to open.

Jess believes that if she can get Billie arrested for a misdemeanor like shoplifting then it'll be easier for a felony charge like kidnapping to be brought against her. Jess puts a keychain in the Aztec relic and when Billie is leaving it sets off the alarms at the USS Kidd museum gift shop.

However, Billie's accomplice is able to sneak away with the relic and since the security guard didn't find any stolen items on Billie he lets her go.

Oren is constantly looking at deals on shoes and what new ones are coming out. He claims to own 15 pairs of 'Jordans'. Billie lures Oren by telling him that she was going to give him some hot new shoes and when he was in a trailer Billie's henchmen kidnapped him.

While at the USS Kidd museum gift shop Oren states that he knows Billie has a lot of money because she wears Christian Dior shoes.

Liam calls Jess a 'stan' and he asks her why she is stanning him when he comes across her at his deceased grandfather's house. Previously Jess had confronted Liam on a night he was performing at Squeaky Pete's and started asking him about his grandfather and his connection to lost treasure.

The term 'stan' for an obsessive and often deranged fan came into the lexicon after the release of Eminem's hit song "Stan" in the year 2000.

Jess is fired from her job at Almighty Storage after she switches shifts with a colleague named Vince who doesn't show up to work that day. Tasha recommends to Jess that she apply for a waitress position at Squeaky Pete's since they have an opening. The manager there tells her she has a great resume but no restaurant experience.

She tells him that she sees that a customer needs more napkins, the soda fountain needs more CO2 and there is a bar stool with a loose leg. Amazed by her observations, he hires her on the spot.

Tasha finds a magazine cover with Billie on it that calls her the 'Queen of Cryptocurrency'. As Tasha reads more about Billie she sees that Billie is also an antiquities dealer that uses nefarious tactics to get what she wants. Billie had hacked Tasha's computer but Tasha returned the favor and hacked Billie's computer in the hopes of getting information on what her treasure hunting plans are.

Agent Ross is frustrated when she tries to read the file of Peter Sadusky because most of it is redacted. She tells her boss that she ordered a toxicology report for Sadusky's death but he tells her that she should cancel it to keep his dignity. He then tells Agent Ross that Peter Sadusky was a hero and he arrested the man who stole the Declaration of Independence. However, it is explained that Sadusky was never the same after his son's untimely death and he was believed to suffer from dementia.

Fans of the "National Treasure" film from 2004 know that the aforementioned arrest was a reference to Peter Sadusky (Harvey Keitel) arresting Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) after he steals the Declaration of Independence to look at a treasure map that is hidden on the back of it.

As a teenager and young adult, Jess's mother told her to not follow in her father's footsteps of hunting treasure. Even so, Jess's keen intellect and observation skills made her always want to solve puzzles and once she learned that her dad was involved in preserving Montezuma's treasure she knew she had to carry on his legacy. Liam's grandfather, Peter Sadusky, utilized an unpublished paper written in Spanish two decades prior by Manuela Valenzuela as a starting point for looking for Montezuma's treasure. Jess finds it extremely odd that her mother told her to not hunt for treasure while at the same time her mother wrote a paper about the lost treasures of Montezuma.
