Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 7, teams flew from Istanbul to what European capital city?

Answer: Paris

Starting the seventh leg of the race midday in Istanbul, Turkey, teams headed out from Beyazit Square and made their way to the airport to fly to Paris, France. Two teams ended up heading out on the first flight, four went out on the second, and James and Sarah ended up on the final one. All four arrived in the evening, leading to a night leg in the City of Lights.
2. During the Road Block in Leg 7, teams learned to cook what difficult dish?

Answer: Souffle

After landing in Paris, teams needed to make their way to the world-class cooking school Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. Upon arriving, teams found a Road Block task. For this one, they needed to master the art of cooking a souffle using ingredients and a recipe at their disposal. When the dish was correctly made and served to the director of the academy, the team could carry on. This was done by Steve, Michelle, Lucy, Grace, Sam, Andrew, and Sarah.
For the Road Block, teams had to attend a mandatory cooking class at one of two times, allowing trailing teams to catch up.
3. During the seventh leg of the race, teams had to deliver which item from a market to a shop twenty-five kilometers away?

Answer: Cheese

After the Road Block, teams needed to take a taxi to the Rungis Wholesale Market in Paris where they had to search the large warehouse for a specific cheese shop. There, the team had to retrieve a thirty kilogram wheel of cheese and deliver it, also by taxi, twenty-five kilometers through the city to the Alléosse Cheese Shop in the center of Paris. If it arrived undamaged it would result in their next clue directing them onward to an artist waiting for them on the Debilly Footbridge.
4. Towards the end of Leg 7, teams were asked to fly to what Cuban city, marking the third country of the leg?

Answer: Havana

Reaching the Debilly Footbridge on the Seine, teams received a clue telling them to head back to the international airport-- their journey wouldn't end until they headed to Havana, the capital city of Cuba. As such, all teams ended up reaching Charles de Gaulle Airport and taking the two different flights to Havana, arriving the next day.

At the airport, the teams had to find classic cars in the airport parking lot and drive to the Tropicana Night Club.
5. Which team was last to arrive on the Pit Stop mat in Cuba in Leg 7?

Answer: Joesph and Grace

After visiting the Tropicana Night Club and meeting with the head dancer, teams had to drive to the Hotel Nacional, their seventh Pit Stop of the race. For a third time in a row, Paul and Steve ended up arriving in first place. To teams' surprise, the race was not quite due for a break-- they were told to keep racing and were handed their next clue. Joseph and Grace ended up getting penalized two hours for stealing another team's cab in Paris but were not eliminated as a result.
6. Teams not finding the old man of the sea for their Road Block instead had to do which of the following?

Answer: Catch a fish

Heading out directly from Hotel Nacional, teams had to drive their classic cars to the next destination almost immediately. At the Marina Hemingway, they had to sign up for one of four charter boats, each leaving a half hour apart the next morning. Hopping onto the boat, teams received a Road Block clue looking for one member of each team to be 'a little nautical'. Using two coordinates, a compass, and a fishing chart, they had to locate a fisherman out at sea to receive their next clue. If teams caught a fish on the way, they could go to shore without completing the task. If they did neither, they would receive a four hour penalty. Steve, Jo, Shane, James, Emilia, Sam, and Joseph completed this task; none of them took the penalty though Shane caught a fish.
7. Teams completing one side of the Detour in Leg (in Cuba) had to deliver which of the following drinks through the city streets?

Answer: Daiquiris

After completing the Road Block, teams headed back to shore to complete a Detour task in the streets of historic Old Havana. Those who chose to complete the 'Daiquiri Guzzle' Detour had to find the El Floridita bar, once a local watering hole for Ernest Hemingway, and make six Daiquiris-- drinks made popular at that very spot.

Then, they had to deliver them on foot through the tricky streets of Old Havana-- with one hand-- to the Hotel Ambos Mundos (and up five flights of stairs to Hemingway's room) without spilling them to receive their next clue. Paul and Steve and Sticky and Sam completed this task.
8. Teams opting to finish the puzzle-themed Detour task in Cuba in Leg 8 had to depict the image of what famous figure in Cuban history?

Answer: Che Guevara

Those not willing to risk spilling their daiquiris ended up opting to complete the 'Che Puzzle' Detour option sending them into Old Havana's Plaza de la Catedral. In the shadow of the beautiful Cathedral of Havana, they had to work together to solve a ninety piece puzzle depicting Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara, a notable figure in Cuban history.

When this was done they would be handed their next clue. Michelle and Jo, Shane and Andrew, James and Sarah, Lucy and Emilia, and Joseph and Grace completed the task.
9. In Leg 8, teams were told to catch which of these animals on a farm to receive their next clue?

Answer: Crocodile

Completing the Detour, teams were told to drive themselves to Australia, surprisingly also the name of a village in Cuba nearly two hours southeast of Havana. Once there, they had to locate a marked crocodile farm and, upon their arrival, they had to fill a wheelbarrow with bloody fish stumps.

Then, they had to feed a large pit of crocodiles. Following this, they had to enter a separate pit and work with a handler to catch a crocodile to receive their next clue.
10. Which team was eliminated in Cuba in Leg 8?

Answer: Sticky and Sam

After catching their crocodiles, teams were told to proceed on foot and then by boat across the Laguna del Tesoro to find their next Pit Stop at the bungalows of Hotel Villa Guamá. There, for a fourth time in a row, Paul and Steve ended up being the winners of the leg, receiving a $10,000 trip for two to Queenstown, New Zealand for their efforts this time around.

Although Sticky and Sam were ahead heading out of the Detour, their poor navigation on the way to the village of Australia proved to be their undoing; they were last to check in at the eighth Pit Stop and were thus eliminated from the race.
