Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Both Detour tasks encountered by teams in Leg 9 (in Siem Reap, Cambodia) took place in which setting?

Answer: Circus

Teams remained in Siem Reap, Cambodia for Leg 9, opening clues on Sivutha Boulevard after being transported back in the city from Tonlé Sap. This clue sent them, on foot, to the Royal Independence Gardens to find a Detour clue that would have them joining the Phare Circus.

In 'Start the Giggles', racers had the opportunity to show off their comedy chops. Joining circus performers, racers had to learn a slapstick comedy routine that would have them coordinating as a pair to pull off silly acrobatic tricks for a pair of judges.
2. Which team did not complete the 'Stop the Wobbles' balance task in Leg 9?

Answer: Emma and Hayley

'Stop the Wobbles', the racers' alternate Detour option, also sent them to the circus, but instead of learning a routine, they needed to perform a more technical feat by mastering a balance trick, standing barefoot on wooden cylinders for a complete minute (for each racer) to collect their next clue. Alli and Angie, Harry and Teddy, and Jana and Cor completed this task while Emma and Hayley and Darren and Tristan 'Started the Giggles'.
3. To complete their Speed Bump in Leg 9, Harry and Teddy had to deliver forty of which of these to a furniture shop in Siem Reap?

Answer: Brooms

Once teams finished their Detour, they had to travel by foot down the nearby river to find a set of bicycles and a pile of brooms. After properly loading and securing forty brooms to their bikes, they could deliver them through Siem Reap to the Phalla Furniture Shop, only a few blocks away, to get their next clue.

Because Harry and Teddy were last to step on the mat at the Pit Stop in Leg 8, this was also the opportunity for them to complete their Speed Bump, an extra task that only they needed to finish. This meant that the pair of them, once done the delivery, had to race back to the starting point and deliver another forty brooms (each) by hand.
4. The final task of Leg 9, taking place in a lotus field outside of Siem Reap, had teams making which of these local products?

Answer: Silk

The final task of Leg 9 required that teams hop into a cab and locate the lotus pond at Chong Srok on the edge of Siem Reap. There, teams would have to put on waders and head out into the murky waters of the pond to collect fifty lotus stems. Once they had all fifty, they could carry them into the nearby workshop where they would be taught how to craft their own lotus silk, one of the rarest fabrics in the world. To do this, they would need to crack the stems open, lay out the silk within, then roll it together to spin their fibre. If they could make a six-foot-long strand of lotus silk, they would get their next clue.
5. Which team was last to hit the mat in Leg 9, getting eliminated in fifth place?

Answer: Jana and Cor

If racers could prove their patience and wind their silk they could get their last clue and proceed on foot to the ninth Pit Stop of the race, the Khmer-made Chamkar House, a farm property in rural Sangkat, Cambodia. Emma and Hayley managed to keep ahead for the majority of the leg, finding Beau and the Pit Stop mat with a comfortable lead and winning their hotel upgrade.

This would be their second win in a row and third of the race thus far. Competitive mother and son team Jana and Cor found that this leg was their last one.

They checked in last at the Pit Stop after falling behind with the broom and silk tasks and were eliminated from the race.
6. The race took teams back into Malaysia in Leg 10, but to which region did they travel?

Answer: Borneo

A quick flight from Central Cambodia to the island of Borneo would drop the final four team off in the city of Kota Kinabalu at the start of Leg 10, allowing them to depart from the airport with a clue in hand and in the order they arrived at the previous Pit Stop.

The teams had to make their way on foot to the Kota Kinabalu Fish Market. Upon arriving, the racers had to prepare fish for sale, cleaning and gutting six fish per the approval of a fishmonger to get their next clue.
7. Which of these was a Detour option encountered by teams at the Gaya Island Resort Marine Centre in Leg 10?

Answer: 'Save the Reef'

Teams had to head by boat to the jetty at the Gaya Island Resort Marine Centre to complete their Detour clue, and both options put before them involved conservation efforts they would be undertaking on the Bornean coast.

The 'Save the Reef' Detour task had teams hitting the water to protect the beautiful coral reefs along the coast of the island. Watching a demonstration, teams had to learn how to glue and attach living coral to five kilograms of dead coral found along the beach. Once racers properly placed their rehabilitated coral back into the sea, they would be able to return to the shore and collect their next clue. Darren and Tristan and Alli and Angie completed this challenge.
8. Racers who completed the 'Save the Mangroves' Detour task used which of these to travel through the mangrove forests?

Answer: Kayak

In 'Save the Mangroves', racers paddled kayaks three kilometres into the mangrove forests lining the Kota Kinabalu coastline and, once upriver, they had to collect thirty-six mangrove seeds from the shallows. Bringing these back to a tree nursery, the racers then needed to properly plant their seeds in pots, six to a pot, to get their next clue. Harry and Teddy and Emma and Hayley both went for this task.

After the Detour, all teams hopped back into their Bajau boats and headed to the Road Block on the other side of the island.
9. The racers were prompted with which of these cryptic clues when it came time for their memorization Road Block in Leg 10?

Answer: Who wants to head hunt?

It was time to head hunt in the Leg 10 Road Block as teams made their way to Padang Point for a hike that would test their memories. Taking a walk down a jungle trail, the selected racers would need to keep their eyes peeled for nine masks belonging to indigenous Bornean tribes.

At the end of the trail, they would be tested on their memory of the hike by placing images of the masks in the proper order they were found. Emma, Angie, Darren, and Harry elected to head into the jungle.
10. Which team was last to reach the Pit Stop at the end of Leg 10 on Sapi Island?

Answer: Alli and Angie

Once teams finished the Road Block they had one more order of business, and that involved finding Beau a coconut from the shallows at the beach, then kayaking out to the Pit Stop waiting for them on the sands of Sapi Island. Darren and Tristan left the Road Block first and checked in just ahead of Harry and Teddy, winning themselves the luxury hotel stay.

At the back of the pack, Emma and Hayley kept ahead of Alli and Angie, but fortunately all four teams saw a reprieve with the last non-elimination of the race. Alli and Angie would have to face a Speed Bump in the proceeding leg, of course.
