Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The start of Leg 5 had teams selling which of these in Langkawi, Malaysia?

Answer: Crabs

With Leg 4 having a Virtual Pit Stop, racers didn't have time to rest before continuing into Leg 5, proceeding from Tanjung Rhu Beach and driving themselves to Crab Farm Langkawi to get their next clue. Once there, racers discovered that they would need to catch five mud crabs and drive them off to Cenang Beach where they would sell them for a profit (earning 100 ringgits). If they could make their money they could receive their next clue.
2. Racers needed to spend an evening in Langkawi before flying to George Town, Malaysia. Where did they stay?

Answer: In tents on the beach

Racers were able to trade their crab earnings to a local beachminder to get their next clue, and opening this they discovered that they would be heading to the Penang city of George Town for the rest of the leg, taking a flight the next morning and departing from the airport in the order they received their clue on the beach.

The catch was that all money earned from the crabs needed to be spent to buy the racers a tent that they would be sleeping in, on the beach, for the night. They would depart at sunrise.
3. The 'Piles of Tiles' Detour option in Leg 5 had teams engaging with which Malaysian pastime?

Answer: Mahjong

The clue teams were given at the George Town Airport informed them that they could choose one of the Detour options presented to them, and the first of these was called 'Piles of Tiles'. For this task, racers made their way into the city to The Dutchie Penang. Once there, they could search through a massive bucket of mahjong tiles to hunt down the 144 needed to create a full game. Once they prepared a proper mahjong setup, omitting the extras, they could get their next clue.

It was Darren and Tristan, Jana and Cor, Emma and Hayley, and Ben and Jackie who went this way.
4. The 'Burn Your Boat' Detour option in Leg 5 had teams building boats out of which material?

Answer: Paper

If racers didn't want to dig through mahjong tiles they could instead complete the 'Burn Your Boat' task, travelling to Hin Bus Depot and learning how to properly fold and create intricate paper boats out of Joss paper. If racers could make five, they could collect their next clue. Harry and Teddy, Bec and Kate, Allie and Angie, and George and Pam completed this task.

No matter the Detour option, racers were directed to Carnarvon Street for one last task before the end of the leg.
5. Which team was eliminated in George Town, Malaysia's Chung Keng Quee Temple at the end of Leg 5?

Answer: Ben and Jackie

Reaching Carnarvon Street, racers needed to spend some of their money to purchase five bachang from a local vendor and then deliver them, on foot, to their fifth Pit Stop, the Chung Keng Quee Temple on the grounds of the Pinang Peranakan Mansion. Alli and Angie excelled in the 'Burn Your Boat' Detour challenge, creating their boats on their first attempt and arriving on the Pit Stop mat to discover they were the first to make it there. The mother and daughter won themselves a luxury stay at the Pit Stop hotel for their efforts, narrowly beating Bec and Kate by mere seconds.

In the end of the leg, the 'Piles of Tiles' proved to be the tougher Detour option, pulling down several teams. It was Ben and Jackie who fell to the bottom as a result and they were eliminated from the race.
6. To start Leg 6, racers had to become passengers on what mode of transport through George Town, Malaysia?

Answer: Cycle rickshaw

Though teams finished Leg 5 at Chung Keng Quee Temple at the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, they received their first clue under their hotel room doors at St. Giles Wembley in George Town, Malaysia, to start a new day of tasks in this Penang city. For their first order of business, they had to ride in a trishaw, or a cycle rickshaw, through the streets of George Town to the island's oldest fire station on Beach Street. Racers departed in the order they arrived at the previous Pit Stop.
7. Which Detour option in Leg 6 had teams working with Malay desserts?

Answer: 'Treats'

Arriving at the Central Fire Station, teams needed to take a spot at a limited station Detour option, selecting either 'Treats' or 'Eats' depending on their position and/or good choices/fortune. In 'Treats', racers travelled to Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay where they could learn how to replicate a koay dessert platter filled with delicious Malay treats that they'd be cutting themselves. In 'Eats', however, they indulged in a local dish called sup torpedo, a chef special containing bull tongue and bull penis. Finishing all the components would give them their clue.

Alli and Angie, Bec and Kate, Jana and Cor, and Darren and Tristan all chose 'Eats', being first at the juncture, while George and Pam, Harry and Teddy, and Emma and Hayley were left with 'Eats'.
8. The Leg 6 Road Block had teams making shoes in the shop where what famous fashion designer once apprenticed?

Answer: Jimmy Choo

Finishing the Detour gave teams a Road Block clue, and with this one, racers had to choose someone to 'walk in Jimmy Choo's shoes'. For this task, both racers headed to the Hong Kong Shoe Store in George Town, the location at which Jimmy Choo learned how to make shoes in his earlier years. There, the specified participant had to learn the basics of cobbling from Mr. Wong, creating a complete pair of high-heeled shoes based on a provided demonstration.

Jana, Alli, Bec, Tristan, Emma, Harry, and Pam were selected to complete this task.
9. At Hean Boo Thean Kuan Yin, near the end of Leg 6 (in George Town), racers had to find a specific English word to get their last clue. What was the word?

Answer: Dragon

Stepping out of the Road Block, racers had to navigate a cycle rickshaw through George Town to the city's floating temple, Hean Boo Thean Kuan Yin. There, they would need to commit to a needle-in-a-haystack hunt through the temple's many lanterns for one marked with a race-coloured (red and yellow) tag, the catch being that all of the lanterns in the temple were the same colour. On the correct tag would be an English word ('Dragon') which, when whispered to the keeper of the temple, would result in their final clue for the leg.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race overlooking George Town, Malaysia at the end of Leg 6?

Answer: George and Pam

After searching through the lanterns of Hean Boo Thean Kuan Yin, racers had one last order of business, and it was a gruelling climb up to the Pit Stop atop Penang Hill; Beau would be waiting for racers on the Curtis Crest Treetop Walk to give racers their placement. Jana and Cor outran Alli and Angie to the mat, taking the win this leg and grabbing the luxury suite at the next Pit Stop hotel. George and Pam, who remained towards the back of the pack from the outset of the leg, were unable to keep afloat, landing on the mat in last and being eliminated from the race in seventh place.
