Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the boys that Justin and Kerry decide to see in the funeral home?

Answer: Billy

The story opens with Kerry and Justin, two friends playing video games at Kerry's house. While Kerry plays "Doom 3" on his Xbox 360, Justin angrily speaks with his father over the phone about his family. When he puts down the phone, he jumps onto a PSP and begins playing his game before becoming frustrated with it. Kerry says that Justin promised he would do something adventurous with him, and Justin asks if Kerry wants to see a real dead body. Kerry, not faltering, says that he would, and they head out to Collinswood Funeral Home.

They arrive on their skateboards and Kerry says that Justin really wasn't lying; the place is beyond spooky. Justin says that he wanted to come here to see Billy Redford, a boy who died earlier in a car crash and who used to make fun of the two of them. Finally, he says, they'll be able to say that they looked down on someone who made fun of them.

When the two of them knock on the door of the funeral home, no one answers, so they let themselves in.
2. Whose cousin works at the funeral home?

Answer: Justin's

When they enter the dark funeral home, they try calling out for Justin's cousin, James, but he doesn't respond. Kerry tells Justin to call him on his cell phone, but he realizes he left it at home. As they make their way through the rooms, they find that it is extremely dark. Kerry attempts to leave a door open in case they need to make a hasty retreat, but it slams shut on them.

The two try to find the light switch, and when Kerry does, it doesn't work. When Justin finds a desk lamp, he turns it on and finds James' laptop and food on the desk, showing that he should be around.

They decide to find the body before they find James, so if he doesn't allow them to view it, they can still say that they accomplished their mission. Justin finds a doorway, and beyond it, a hallway.

He flicks the lightswitch that didn't work in the office and ends up turning on a few lights, but rather than give them an easier time navigating the hallway, it lights placards that were placed in coffins that line the hallway and the room beyond. Justin goes to open one of the closed caskets, but Kerry stops him, saying that they came to see Billy, not to see a 2-for-1 special. Justin tells Kerry that he's so angry because his father wants him and his sister to meet his new fiancee, who also used to be the secretary that he left his wife for. Kerry agrees that it's a bad situation.
3. Where do Justin and Kerry hear music within the funeral home?

Answer: From the second floor

As the two make their way upstairs, Justin says that he hears music in one of the rooms. Kerry theorizes that it may be why James can't hear them, and they continue on....that is until they hear a noise. Kerry tells Justin that sometimes, the people that work in funeral homes 'do stuff' to the bodies, and they decide to turn around and come back another time.

When they make their way back down to the showroom, they find that the coffin that Justin was going to open earlier is now opened. Kerry laughs, saying that Justin planned this with his cousin, but Justin shows pure fear on his face, and they rush to the door that slammed shut earlier. Justin tries to turn the knob to no avail; it's locked tight. Kerry suggests the back door and they race to the back to try it.

As they walk past the open coffin, they find that once again, it is closed. Rather than leave, they decide to follow the music to James, and they head back upstairs. In the last room down a dark hallway, they find James' iPod on a speaker dock, spattered with blood.
4. Kerry and James end up finding the boy they were looking for on their search through the funeral home.

Answer: True

In the same room, Kerry finds a dead woman, sat up in a chair in front of a trio of mirrors. Kerry asks Justin why she's only half-way made up for her funeral, and Justin sarcastically tells him to ask her before leaving the room. When they go back to the hallway, Justin sees an exit sign in the distance and he tells Kerry that they'll be getting out and that he won't let anything happen to him since it was his idea to come in the first place.

When they reach the room with the exit sign, they realize that the room containing it is pitch black.

They feel their way around for a light switch, and as Justin makes his way up the wall, he feels a wet substance. He wipes it off before Kerry places his hand on a cadaver. Justin finds the light switch and they see that the room that they have entered does contain the emergency exit, but it also contains around eight movable slabs, each with a corpse lying on top.

As they make their way between the gurneys, Kerry slides on a puddle of blood, and tells Justin that the corpses shouldn't have blood- they'd have been embalmed- so something had to have happened to James.

As they near the door, Justin finds Billy Redford on a slab in a nearby room, and although Kerry says that they need to leave, Justin goes in for a closer look.
5. How does Justin escape the funeral home?

Answer: Through a window

They quickly turn around and make their way back through the room of bodies where Justin finds a sheet covered in blood draped overtop one of the gurneys. Bravely, he decides to look under it, since it's just a dead body, and he finds his cousin, James, with his neck sliced open.

While Justin looks in disbelief and shock, Kerry watches as a shadow on the wall rises and he looks over to see one of the corpses rise from under its sheet. When it pulls it off, it reveals itself and hops off the slab.

The two of them make a dash for the door as the shadow of the corpse's hand follows along the wall. When the shadow strikes out, Kerry takes a fall, bashing into the wall and tumbling down the stairs. Justin races down to help him and finds a large chunk missing from his leg.

He carries him the rest of the way, down the stairs, across the dark hallway (to see the closed coffin once again open, and stained with blood), and back to the entrance where he remembers that the door had locked itself.

While Kerry lies on the floor, Justin fights with the door, but it's too late. The creature bears down on Kerry, tears open his neck, and drinks his blood from the gash. Justin attempts to fight back, but is thrown against the wall. He quickly takes a flowerpot off the nearby desk, throws it through the window, and escapes. As he runs back home, the vampire finishes draining Kerry.
6. When Justin gets home from the ordeal at the funeral home, he falls asleep. Wwhat is playing on TV when he wakes up?

Answer: Dracula

When Justin arrives at home, he locks the front door and turns on all the lights. He decides to quickly call the police, but they assume it's a crank call, saying that Halloween was last month, and that most murders usually take place before the body goes to the funeral home. Getting nowhere, Justin tries calling his father, and once again, he hits a dead end.

His father tells him to call the next morning. Justin finds two messages on his answering machine, one from Kerry's mother, saying that she needs to know if Kerry needs a ride home, otherwise, he'll need to spend the night.

The second is from his own mother, telling him that she'll be home the following night, and that her cell phone battery is dead, so he won't be able to get a hold of her. Justin falls asleep, but is woken up later that night by a tapping sound.

When he goes upstairs, he discovers it's at the front door, and he looks outside to find Kerry. Quickly, Justin puts a chain lock across the door and asks how he got away. Kerry says that his leg hurts, but he found a way to escape out a window. Upon looking at his friend's condition, Justin lets him in and places him on the floor.
7. Justin is able to get the police to arrive at his house when Kerry arrives.

Answer: False

When he places him on the floor, Justin looks under the cloth that Kerry wrapped around his neck to discover that about a third of his flesh has been eaten away. He rushes to the phone to call 911 again, but when he turns around, he finds that Kerry has disappeared, leaving the cloth and a bloodstain on the carpet.

He follows the sound of water into his room in the basement and finds Kerry drinking water from a jar over a large wash basin. Due to the flesh wound, the water sprays from his neck, but he finishes off the jar and vomits up his blood before collapsing once again. Justin watches as Kerry takes his last gasping breaths of air and picks up the phone.

While his back is turned, however, Kerry rises from the floor and turns off the cell as he begins dialing. Justin turns around to see that Kerry is standing behind him.

He tells Kerry that he watched as he died, and Kerry apologizes, saying that 'he's so hungry' before taking a bite into Justin's neck.
8. What is the name of Justin's dog?

Answer: Filo

The next day, Justin's mother and sister return home with dinner. She goes downstairs and tells Justin to come up for some food and to clean up the stain in the living room, which she assumes to be Coke. She says that they must have had a good party the night before, as he must've slept through the day. Justin puts on a turtleneck to hide the bite on his own neck and stumbles upstairs where his mother tosses him a sponge and cleaner for the rug (which he fails to catch).

He makes a poor attempt before joining the family at the table for dinner.

When he takes his seat, Filo, the family dog, begins to bark at Justin, knowing his new identity. Justin's mother quiets the dog before handing out pizza, telling the kids that she has vegetarian and pepperoni, and both are loaded with garlic, because she knows how much they like it.

While the dog barks from the other room, Justin picks up a knife and salivates before telling his mother that he's not hungry. She finally realizes that he's not feeling well and takes his temperature with her hand.

She finds that he's ice cold and send him back to bed, blaming it on the partying. That night, Justin rises from the basement and finds his mother in her room yelling at his father over the phone. When the conversation ends, he makes his way to his sister's room and nearly decides to give in to his temptation. He backs out at the last second, puts on a trench coat and leaves his house instead.
9. The head vampire captures which person for Justin to be his first victim?

Answer: His sister

Justin takes a walk to his father's house and walks down the hallway to the bedroom listening to voices whisper and laugh in his head. He finds his father asleep in his room, and as he approaches him, he decides not to make him his first victim. When he goes to leave however, he's stopped by Kerry, who found him along the way. Kerry pressures him to kill his father and drink his blood, since it's the perfect revenge to take on such a person. Justin says he wouldn't do it, but Kerry says that he has to or he'll be killed by his new affliction. Justin continues to try to leave, but Kerry decides to go in, break a mirror, and use a shard to slit the man's throat.

While Kerry pressures him to drink his father's blood, Justin nearly gives in, but he tears away and runs out of the house to avoid the choice.

As he races across a park, he is nearly hit by a car on an open stretch of road. He finds himself under a tree before a man grabs him and pulls him aside. The man turns out to be the vampire from the funeral home, and as he holds an umbrella under the moonlight, Kerry stands behind him.

He tells Justin that he needs to accept his fate, and Justin recognizes him as a perverted math teacher who used to lure teenagers into his house and take pictures of them. Kerry explains to the man that Justin's father is now dead, so he can't get the blood from him, so they set out to find fresh blood for his sustenance. They leave him tied to a table in the funeral home and the teacher tells him that he and Kerry were talking about the situation with his father. He also explains that once he begins drinking the blood, he'll turn into a malicious, dangerous person like his dad was, and that he has no need to worry because his current feelings will pass. He then reveals the selection he made for the victim: Justin's sister. He reveals her from under a sheet on a nearby table. He has Kerry hold her down as he takes a syringe of her blood and then injects it into Justin's flesh wound. Justin slowly begins to transform, and the vampire tells him that it will reinvent him, slowly changing him into someone he would never resist. He takes him up off the slab and tells him to take his first victim.
10. In the end, where does Kerry decide to go?

Answer: New York

Justin considers the effects of taking his first victim, but realizes that he does love his sister and takes the syringe from the nearby table and stabs the vampire in the eyes. While he stumbles around blindly, Justin and Kerry free his sister and send her home to safety while taking on their creator. Kerry wrestles him to the ground with a large pole and keeps him there, telling Justin that they can't kill him if he's already dead. Justin, however, thinks otherwise, and uses a large electric saw to decapitate the vampire. Kerry tells him that it's all over, but Justin remembers that Kerry helped bring his sister to the home. Kerry says that he wouldn't have done that alone; he was afraid of the vampire and would have only done it in the case of Justin's father, who was a different story. Justin and Kerry decide on a few things. Justin tells Kerry to stay away from his family forever, so that he doesn't feed off of them, and he tells him to get as far away from Collinswood as he can. Justin also tells Kerry to let him die, so that he doesn't need to kill others in order to live.

As Justin's sister arrives home to her worried mother, Kerry finishes tying Justin to the funeral slab. Justin waits as the sun rises and he sets ablaze in his quick death. Kerry, not wanting to perish, catches a bus out of Collinswood and makes his way across the country to New York. On the bus, he converses with the man next to him, who says that he hopes that they stop soon since he's getting hungry. Kerry agrees, saying that he may be a bit hungry as well.
