Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The framing narrative of this "Treehouse of Horror" is set in which location?

Answer: The Simpson household

Though this episode features three vignettes as per usual, each of those is framed by a Halloween party being held at the Simpsons' house during which Marge and Homer entertain the kids of Bart and Lisa's classes. Though Bart wants to go trick-or-treating, Marge tries to keep the kids off the idea, playing party games in the dark.

She asks anybody if they have any scary stories to tell and Lisa is the first to tell hers: 'Clown Without Pity'.
2. Who gifts Bart with the evil doll in 'Clown Without Pity'?

Answer: Homer

'Clown Without Pity' begins with Bart celebrating his birthday. After receiving a wad of cash from Grandpa Simpson, Bart asks Homer where his present is. Unfortunately, Homer doesn't have one; he admits his fault and decides to leave immediately to get one.

It's because of this that he ends up at the House of Evil, a small shop of curiosities, stepping up to the counter looking for toys. The proprietor doesn't say no, but he does claim that they sell 'forbidden objects from places men fear to tread...and frozen yogurt.' It's from here that Homer walks away with a Krusty the Clown doll with a terrible curse...and a free fro-gurt!
3. In an effort to destroy the Krusty doll in 'Clown Without Pity', Homer takes it where?

Answer: To a bottomless pit

Homer makes it home just in time for Bart's formal birthday party and presents him with the gift in front of all of his friends. Fortunately, it's a good gift; Bart's thrilled to receive a talking Krusty doll despite Grandpa's wild assertion that the doll is evil.

It takes only a little bit of time before Homer comes the realization that something is amiss. Sitting on the couch and pulling the doll's string, Homer is greeted by a menacing threat, and throwing the doll across the room, it only comes back angrier, and with a knife. Homer tells the family that the doll's out to get him, but he's reasonably not believed.

After more threats on his life, Homer takes the doll, tosses it in a sack, locks it in a box, and tosses it into a bottomless pit.
4. The problem with the doll in 'Clown Without Pity' is that someone set his switch to which setting?

Answer: EVIL

Homer makes it home from the bottomless pit but the Krusty doll, strapped to the bottom of his car, returns with him. With the proof finally attached to his head, he's able to alert Marge of the cursed doll and she calls the hotline on the box for help. Fortunately a Krusty Co. rep is able to come along posthaste and check on the problem. It's a simple solution too-- someone set the switch on the back of the doll from GOOD to EVIL. He flips it back and the mood shifts immediately.

The Krusty doll ends up living out his days with Lisa's Malibu Stacy...though as a slave to Homer. Ah well.
5. In 'King Homer', Marge joins an expedition to which remote location?

Answer: Ape Island

After Homer flops at telling the kids a spooky story, Grandpa steps in to tell his own. Instead of telling a story about his life, he opts to lean on an an existing tale, telling 'King Homer'.

It starts with Marge Bouvier, arriving on a foggy dock as Mr. Burns and Smithers prepare for a mysterious, monkey-related expedition. She's hired immediately, and with that they set off to sea, bound for Ape Island.
6. Mr. Burns collects King Homer from his remote island with the intent of bringing him to Broadway. How does he do so?

Answer: With gas bombs

When Mr. Burns' ship arrives at Ape Island, the crew can hear the chanting of a single name from the shore-- 'Homer'. Mr. Burns reckons it's either a fifty-foot ape or a tourist trap; either way, they're going ashore.

It takes next to no time before Marge is kidnapped by the tribesmen to be used as a sacrifice for the great ape, and before long he arrives at their temple to claim her. Mr. Burns, seeing the benefit of taking King Homer dead or alive (to put on Broadway in the former case or to feed as stew to the army in the latter), decides to have him tranquilized with a gas bomb and brought back overseas.
7. The end of 'King Homer' ends with which of these?

Answer: Wedding

Mr. Burns makes it to Broadway with King Homer, the eighth wonder of the world, and the crowd is shocked and awed by the feature. Marge notices that Homer isn't all too thrilled by the flashbulbs of the local press, but they don't stop, and it's because of this that he breaks free of his bindings and commences a rampage through Downtown Springfield.

Breaking out of the theatre, King Homer busts into buildings and heads through the streets, eventually finding Marge in the tallest tower, grabbing her, and climbing to the top...or at least as high as he can. When the planes come along to shoot him down, they head out to refuel; he doesn't even make it a few storeys up.

Marge ends up wedding King Homer in a church ceremony, and with that, most live happily ever after...except for the people Homer ate.
8. In 'Dial "Z" for Zombies', Bart locates a book for his report in which section of the school library?

Answer: Occult

After Marge comes through the Halloween party with fresh fruit as a snack and Ned Flanders terrifies the kids with a shocking costume, Bart steps up for one last story-- 'Dial "Z" for Zombies'.

It starts with Bart providing a book report on a story for preschoolers. Mrs. Krabappel refuses to accept the assignment, telling him to read another book, and with that he heads to the Occult Section of the library and picks something else.
9. In 'Dial "Z" for Zombies', Bart tries to use a resurrection spell to bring back who of these?

Answer: Snowball I

Taking a stroll through the stacks of the Occult Section, Bart grabs a candle and picks the first book that hits him square in the back of the head-- the Time Life Book of Magick and Spelles Vol. II.

When Bart brings the book home, he finds Lisa in her room mourning the loss of Snowball I and, checking through his newly-acquired book, he finds a chapter on zombies and suggests using a resurrection spell to bring the cat back. With that they head to the Springfield Pet Cemetery on one stormy night and try it out. It just happens to work a little better than expected.
10. How are the Simpsons able to defeat the zombies at the end of 'Dial "Z" for Zombies'?

Answer: By reading another spell

Once Bart and Lisa realize that Bart's resurrection spell has brought to life all the human bodies in the Springfield Cemetery, they race home on their bikes in an attempt to escape. The zombies are held off by an unexpected visit to Ned Flanders (who subsequently becomes a zombie, himself) and start spreading around Springfield over the next day.

All of this gives the Simpsons some time to barricade all the doors and windows. Homer forgets the back door, however, and the zombies spill in easily. He offers himself up to save his family, but when they don't find brains, the zombies move on.

Homer grabs a shotgun and Bart and Lisa theorize that there might be another book in the library to reverse the spell. With that, and after killing zombie Flanders, they return to the school and blast their way through, finding another tome and bringing Springfield back to normal.
