Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lisa comes to determine that she's ugly when she receives which of these?

Answer: A caricature

While Principal Skinner deals with attorneys coming to shut down the Springfield Elementary School Carnival (for being 'The Happiest Place on Earth'), the schoolkids engage with sideshow games and rides of all sorts. Bart, operating a three-card monte booth, swindles locals until Skinner comes by and notes the suspicious activity while Groundskeeper Willie sells haggis at a distance (to no takers). Lisa, sitting for a caricature, is humiliated when her unflattering picture is finished.

As her fellow students laugh at the end result, she comes to one conclusion: she's ugly.
2. Homer wins a blimp ride in the Springfield Elementary Raffle. What does Ned Flanders win for second prize?

Answer: A shoe buffer

As the almost-disastrous school fair comes to a conclusion (with damages to the building brought on by a malfunctioning thrill ride), Principal Skinner announces the raffle and the patrons of the event gather round for their chance to win a ride on the famous Duff Beer blimp. Homer, imagining winning the prize and flying over the Superbowl (to find his face projected in the crowd), waits for the drawing as Ned Flanders gets the second-place prize, a brand new shoe buffer. Fortunately, despite Homer's disappointment at losing the buffer, he manages to win the blimp ride.
3. To make Lisa feel better about her appearance, Homer refers to her with which simile?

Answer: As cute as a bug's ear

At home, Lisa contemplates her caricature while crying into her pillow while Homer, elated with his win, comforts her, calling her 'as cute as a bug's ear'. She comments that, as a father, he has to say stuff like that; it doesn't help. She asks to be left alone.

At Moe's, Homer contemplates the situation and looks for help, asking Moe and Barney if they've ever felt unattractive (neither admits to ever feeling that way). It's a TV ad that comes to the rescue; Homer watches a promotion for the Little Miss Springfield Pageant and it sparks a solution.
4. Who's the host of the Little Miss Springfield Pageant?

Answer: Krusty the Clown

As Laramie Cigarette president Jack Larson explains in the ad, his company is sponsoring the Little Miss Springfield Pageant, open to little girls aged 7 to 9. Any girl that fits the criteria could be eligible to take the crown in an event hosted by the Master of Glee himself, Krusty the Clown (who hardly endorses the event).

When Homer realizes that Lisa could win and be as happy as a smoker taking that first puff in the morning, he contemplates finding a way to cough up the $250 entry fee. The only way he can do it is by selling his blimp ticket to Barney, a sacrifice he wastes no time in making. Surprisingly, Barney has the cash on-hand; since scientists stopped testing on animals, he's been raking in the dough.
5. Homer enters Lisa into the Little Miss Springfield Pageant without her permission.

Answer: True

At the breakfast table, Homer surprises Lisa with the news that he sent in an application for the Little Miss Springfield Pageant on her behalf, using the caricature from the carnival as her entry photo without asking her. She outright refuses to be a part of the show and runs to her room, but Marge later reveals that he paid her entry with the Duff blimp ticket.

It's this sacrifice that convinces Lisa to at least give the pageant a shot, ensuring she doesn't disappoint her father.
6. Lisa's competition, Amber Dempsey, is alleged to have received which of these on the foreign market?

Answer: Eyelash implants

Lisa arrives at the Little Miss Springfield Pageant registration day just in time for Amber Dempsey to arrive and, as the other girls note, she's major competition, having won the Pork Princess and Little Miss Kosher titles in the same week. Lisa acknowledges that she's beautiful-- she might as well be the Jack Nicklaus of the pageant circuit.

It doesn't help that Amber has eyelash extensions, illegal in the U.S., but obtainable in Paraguay, naturally. Amber always wins, but Marge assures Lisa that it'll be okay. Marge'll take her to the beauty parlour for a new look and Bart offers to give her some tips and tricks to stay ahead of the competition.
7. The Little Miss Springfield Pageant is held at which of these locations?

Answer: Inn

Lisa's pageant training and choreography proves to be tough, and even while training at home it becomes apparent that it's all quite a difficult venture-- everything from movements to speeches needs to be considered. Walking in heels, for instance, is something she finds to be almost hopeless. She complains that she doesn't think she can win since all the other girls are prettier, but Bart, stomaching the obvious, reassures her she's not ugly.

Before long, the night of the pageant arrives and Lisa and the other contestants hit the stage at Ye Olde Off-Ramp In (now rat-free!) for the chance to win the crown. Krusty barely makes it to the stage.
8. Who wins the Little Miss Springfield Pageant?

Answer: Amber Dempsey

As the pageant rolls on, the girls dive into their talent portions and Lisa hits the stage (petroleum jelly smeared on her teeth for that frictionless smile) to sing and dance for the crowd, starting with a rendition of the national anthem before launching into "Proud Mary". During the Q&A portion, Amber Dempsey breaks ahead of the pack, answering Krusty that she believes the Bill of Rights to be a 'good thing'. What it all leads to is Amber winning the crown and Lisa being declared the runner-up, much to her disappointment.
9. What fate befalls Amber Dempsey?

Answer: She's struck by lightning

In the days following the pageant, the Simpsons watch the news as Amber Dempsey is called upon to celebrate the opening of Springfield's newest supermarket, the Danish store Shøp. What this means is that they have the unfortunate front-row seats for Amber's demise.

As she pulls the lever on the store's severe tire damage spikes, a storm rolls in, soaks the proceedings, and strikes her metal sceptre with lightning. It means she's unable to fulfill her duties as Little Miss Springfield, and with that, Lisa (as runner-up) is given the reign in her place, carried over in a ceremony on the Simpson family's front lawn.
10. In the application for the Little Miss Springfield Pageant, what did Homer write in the section marked 'Do not write in this space'?

Answer: OK

After Lisa is formally crowned Little Miss Springfield, things change a fair bit. Feeling proud of her position, Lisa is approached differently by the boys at school; at the Springfield Wax Museum, a new figure is made in her honour; she appears at Fort Springfield with Bob Hope.

Before long, however, Lisa is asked to ride a Laramie Cigarette float in the Springfield Founds Festival Parade, something she's morally against due to the company's eagerness to use her image to promote to children. With that, Lisa takes up a position of activism, speaking out against political corruption and corporate greed. It gives Springfield's elite all the reason to find a way to dethrone her.

Unfortunately, Mayor Quimby and Laramie Cigarettes' board find their way of putting Amber Dempsey back in the role, discovering that when Homer sent in her application, he filled out the form incorrectly-- in a section marked 'Do not write in this space', he wrote 'OK'. Luckily for Homer, his plan to make Lisa feel better about herself worked in the end, even if he squandered her title. Neither are upset with the outcome.
