Zach and Kendall tied the knot shortly after Jack and Erica did. Both couples married in Boca Raton. Kendall married Zach to help Ethan get control of Cambias Industries. The plan did not work and Ethan subsequently broke up with Kendall. Megan McTavish, who was head writer from 1992-1995, 1997-1999, and 2003-2007, created Kendall Hart in 1993 when she introduced Kendall as the product of a rape between Erica Kane and Richard Fields. Sarah Michelle Gellar portrayed Kendall from 1993-1995. Catfish created Zach Slater in 2004 when Zach introduced himself to Erica when she masqueraded as a showgirl named "Desiree DuBois" at Zach's casino. Zach was revealed to be Alexander Cambias, Jr. Thorsten Kaye originated the role of Zach.

Kendall had complications when she went into labor with Ian since Ian was born prematurely. Nonetheless, Kendall managed to give birth to Ian and he stayed at the hospital for a couple of months in order to get stronger. What was interesting was that Ian was the same name as a character on the defunct ABC soap, "Port Charles", that Thorsten Kaye played and Kaye originated the role of Zach!

Zach and Kendall decided to get remarried after they divorced in December of 2005. They admitted that they still loved each other and wanted to make it official yet again. They remarried, aboard a yacht, in May of 2006.

Zach told Kendall, right before the first tornado hit, that he needed to go to the store to get something. When the tornado started to really hit, Kendall phoned Zach on his cell phone and told him the wind was really strong and that he should head on home.

A tornado came upon Zach's car and crashed it into a tree. Zach walked home and saw Kendall laying unconscious. The boys were fine. He also came upon a very pregnant Bianca. Kendall was in a coma for three months due to the tornadoes.

Carruthers was hired to be executive producer for "AMC" in late 2003. She remained executive producer throughout 2005 so she was the executive producer when Zach and Kendall became a hit with many "AMC" fans. Carruthers served previously as executive producer of the cancelled ABC soap opera, "Port Charles" and she was the Senior Supervising Producer of the hit daytime drama, "General Hospital", in the 1990s.
