Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Phoenix's first client happens to also be one of his best friends. Phoenix even credits this man as largely having influenced him to practice law in the first place. Who is Phoenix's best friend and first law client?

Answer: Larry Butz

"When something smells, it's usually the Butz" is an iconic quote that frequently comes up throughout the trilogy. Larry is always up to something stupid that gets either himself or others into some kind of trouble.
2. Phoenix didn't learn to practice law entirely on his own - who is his mentor?

Answer: Mia Fey

Even after she is murdered, Mia Fey is able to assist Phoenix through the spirit channeling efforts of Maya or Pearl Fey. She offers Phoenix useful advice and occasionally appears in court directly to assist him.
3. How old was Phoenix Wright when he first became bar certified?

Answer: 24

Like many characters throughout this game, Phoenix is abnormally young for someone in his position. Considering he had already made it to law school at the age of 20, he must have graduated high school or college extremely quickly.
4. It turns out Phoenix had a love interest well before he became a lawyer. Who was Phoenix romantically involved with?

Answer: Dahlia Hawthorne

Of course, as we come to find, only Phoenix was actually in it for genuine love. Dahlia had her own sinister plans, which involved her trying but failing to straight up kill Phoenix and have him jailed for murder.
5. Phoenix takes on a few different partners over the course of the trilogy. How many assistants in total does he have?

Answer: Four

In the very first episode, Mia Fey acts the part of Phoenix's assistant. After she is killed, her younger sister Maya Fey steps in. When Maya Fey departs, for "Rising from Ashes", Lana Skye briefly takes over as Phoenix's assistant. Finally, in "The Lost Turnabout", Maggie Byrde funnily enough is both Phoenix's client and his assistant.
6. In the classic, weirdly iconic 'ladder vs step-ladder' debate, which term does Phoenix use?

Answer: Ladder

Across the first trilogy, there are five instances where the player can find themselves examining a ladder. In each case, the character the player is using and their partner will enter a brief, silly argument over which term is 'proper' - ladder or step-ladder.

This jovial exchange became so beloved it would continue to appear in future iterations under the "Ace Attorney" franchise as an easter egg of sorts.
7. In "Bridge to the Turnabout", Phoenix desperately needs the help of his longtime rival Miles Edgeworth. Edgeworth is due to for a little role reversal here, as he is needed to step in for Phoenix and defend his client here. However, Edgeworth needs something of Phoenix's to complete this task. What does Edgeworth have falsified in order to, essentially, impersonate Phoenix?

Answer: Attorney Badge

One of the things Phoenix is most well known for is showing his badge to anyone and everyone he encounters. This does not bode too well for Edgeworth however, as he will need to impersonate Phoenix Wright as he plays the part of a defense attorney. Thankfully, although some eyebrows are raised, nobody other than Franziska von Karma figures out the ruse, and she is content with the idea of "crushing" Edgeworth in court to the point where she simply doesn't care.
8. Miles Edgeworth was pressed in to substitute for Phoenix Wright in "Bridge to the Turnabout." What happened to Phoenix, causing him to be unable to appear in court?

Answer: He fell off a bridge

As he pursued the suspect down the Murky Bridge, the rickety, flimsy structure gave way and Phoenix fell into the river. He somehow was not killed or even injured doing this, and simply caught hypothermia trying to escape the river. This still did prevent him from appearing in court, prompting Edgeworth to step in.
9. Phoenix's longtime rival Miles Edgeworth simply refers to Phoenix by his last name. Franziska von Karma always addresses Phoenix by his full first and last name. Prosecutor Godot, however, has a much sillier way of labelling Phoenix. What does Godot frequently call him?

Answer: Trite

It is never clear if Godot does this on purpose, or if it's because he has simply mistaken Phoenix's last name. It is probably the former due to how many times Godot calls Phoenix 'Trite' but it's never explicitly said.
10. Phoenix develops quite a lot of court experience across the first trilogy. In that time, a number of recurring faces pop up. Of the following, who does Phoenix cross-examine the most?

Answer: Dick Gumshoe

Pearl never takes the stand during the trilogy, though Phoenix does have to break her Psyche Locks on two occasions while investigating. Maya is the very last person to take the stand in the first trilogy, but she never takes the stand prior to this appearance. Oldbag takes the stand twice; the first came in the first game, the second occurrence happened in the second game.

However, Dick Gumshoe is ultimately cross-examined by Phoenix a total of nine times, by the far the most out of anyone.
