Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Malenia, one of the Twin Prodigies, is unique for being the only demigod in the game who actually 'evolves' into a full fledged Goddess over the course of the game. When does she do this?

Answer: When fighting the player

Not exactly an ideal time for the player, but it is what it is. According to the game's lore, Malenia needed to 'bloom' three times in order to make the transformation from demigod to Goddess. The lore itself doesn't provide any context as to what that means, but the fight itself sure does! The context is made quite clear when the second phase of the fight kicks off with Malenia gaining access to and immediately casting Scarlet Aeonia. Scarlet Aeonia is an extremely powerful Scarlet Rot spell involving its user spawning a massive orange flower around their body, leaping forward a few feet, and watching said flower bloom and simultaneously explode. If Malenia hits the player with this, they are 100% going to immediately lose the fight on the spot.

Incidentally, her boss name changes from "Malenia, Blade of Miquella" to "Malenia, Goddess of Rot" when this takes place, meaning that this was clearly the third and final time she needed to bloom to become a Goddess.
2. If the player journeys to Miquella's Haligtree, they may be surprised to find Malenia and her army are here, but Miquella himself is nowhere to be found. Where is he?

Answer: Mohgwyn Palace

Mohg, Lord of Blood has kidnapped Miquella and is holding him hostage right next to his throne at the Mohgwyn Palace. Unfortunately, the player isn't given any ability to try and free Miquella even after defeating Mohg.
3. Malenia's army of Cleanrot Knights may be mostly centered at Miquella's Haligtree, but traces of them can be found all over the world of the game. Where is the first area the player can encounter a Cleanrot Knight?

Answer: Stillwater Cave

A Cleanrot Knight is positioned here as the boss of the area. It is fought inside of a small room with a poison swamp covering a large portion of the middle. The challenge here is maneuvering around small areas the player can get a safe footing and contending with the knight's attacks along with the poisonous swamp. If the player defeats the knight, they'll be rewarded with a Winged Sword Insignia, a fantastic talisman for the early to mid portion of the game.
4. Caelid is an apocalyptic territory which has clearly been subject to a disaster of some kind. Malenia would be responsible for its desolate, annihilated state. What did she do?

Answer: Nuked it with Scarlet Aeonia

Based on the game's lore, this occurrence was the second out of three times Malenia needed to 'bloom' in order to become a true Goddess. The result was completely obliterating the entire area and presumably killing everyone inhabiting it.
5. The item description of the Radahn's Spear item will reveal that these spears are actually weapons used by Malenia's army to try and wound Radahn, that he simply turned into his own weapons. To whom did these weapons originally belong to?

Answer: Cleanrot Knights

The lore specifically depicts of an event where Radahn slaughtered an entire squadron of 100 Cleanrot Knights, cleaving them apart while simultaneously being stabbed by their spears. The ineffective nature of these spears is such where Radahn was able to rip them out of his armor and simply use them as ammunition for his greatbow.
6. If the player journeys deep into Miquella's Haligtree, they'll eventually encounter a boss fight with a familiar face. They previously faced this boss in a different form at the Caria Manor. Who is it?

Answer: Loretta

At Caria Manor, Loretta went by the title "Royal Knight Loretta" and fought the player in a Shade form. Here, Loretta went by the title "Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree" and fought in a standard human form. According to the game's lore, Loretta traveled to the Haligtree in search of a safe haven for the Albinaurics.

The lore implies that she agreed to enlist in Malenia's army in exchange for being allowed to migrate these people into the Haligtree, hence her title change.
7. Within Miquella's Haligtree, the player can find a particularly powerful member of Malenia's army as a spirit ash summon, giving the player the ability to call upon this warrior for help. Who does the player gain access to?

Answer: Cleanrot Knight Finlay

Cleanrot Knight Finlay is an extremely powerful spirit Ash summon, arguably top ten in the entire game. She is incredibly tanky, very agile, hits decently hard and can thus take aggro for the player quite effectively. She is capable of straight up soloing lower-levelled bosses such as Godrick the Grafted or Margit the Fell Omen.

In the game's lore, Finlay is said to have recovered the fallen, comatose-ridden body of Malenia in the middle of the war between the Cleanrots and Redmanes. Finlay carried Malenia's body all the way back to Miquella's Haligtree from there, fighting off a myriad of threats along the way. A knight like that is probably a pretty good ally to have.
8. Miquella's Haligtree is overall arguably the hardest area in the game to go through. One of the biggest reasons for this is a whopping five different mini-bosses, some of which appear multiple times, will obstruct the player here. Which of the following is an example of one?

Answer: Crystallians

In all, Greater Cleanrot Knights, an Erdtree Avatar, two Spiritcaller Snails, a Misbegotten Warrior and three Crystallians inhabit Miquella's Haligtree. That's a total of seven separate mini-boss encounters, plus a total of nine different Greater Cleanrot Knights, bringing our grand total to a whopping sixteen mini-bosses all in one area. That's a lot to have to deal with!
9. If the player manages to mercifully tough it out, get through the Miquella's Haligtree and defeat Malenia, they'll be rewarded with her Remembrance. This can be exchanged for a player version of her weapon, notable for having the highest Dexterity requirement in the game. How much Dexterity is needed to use the Hand of Malenia?

Answer: 48

Requiring 48 Dexterity, the player is going to have to dedicate their build to being able to use this weapon unless they want to greatly overlevel their character. In return for such an investment, the Hand of Malenia has a mediocre scaling of B in Dexterity, but has the highest range of any katana in the game, inflicts average Bleed build up, and most importantly comes with an amazing Ash of War.

The player can perform a player appropriate version of Malenia's Waterfowl Dance, which is incredibly powerful and, more importantly, extremely fun to use.
10. If the player doesn't want to use Malenia's Remembrance on a weapon, their alternative is an incredibly powerful Incantation. What is this?

Answer: Scarlet Aeonia

This is, predictably, a player appropriate version of Malenia's Scarlet Aeonia. Unfortunately, while it hits really hard and inflicts massive Scarlet Rot build up, it is absurdly cumbersome and risky to use, and also has the downside of demanding a ridiculous three spell slots to use. Alongside a massive 56 FP to use, Scarlet Aeonia is unfortunately a niche at best pick for a spell, which is unfortunate given how aesthetically pleasing it is.
