Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Carbon - Hydrogen - Einsteinium - Phosphorus - Indium

Answer: Chespin

As is the case in almost all "Pokémon" games, the player can choose from three starters: a Grass type Pokémon, a Fire type Pokémon and a Water type Pokémon. The Grass type starter in "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" is Chespin, the one we were looking for in this question.

In "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" you start in the centre of the region Kalos, shaped as the upper half of France. You pick as starter either the Fire type Fennekin, the Grass type Chespin or the Water type Froakie. There is a small difference in the total stats for each type, with Fennekin the lowest stats and Froakie just a fraction better than Chespin.

Of the starters, Chespin is the one with the lowest speed but the highest health points. Chespin is styled as a brownish nut (but its shape does remind me more of a champagne cork), with green leafy spikes on the head and back. In the shiny version, the green has been replaced by dark brown. (Shiny Pokémon don't have other stats than their normal counterparts, but they are more rare and thus more desirable).

Chespin can evolve at level 16 to Quilladin and at level 36 to Chesnaught.
Being a Grass type Pokémon, Chespin has an advantage when attacking (e.g.) Water types but is vulnerable to attacks by for instance Fire types.
You can find Chespin in Vaniville Town and Aquacorde Town.
2. Boron - Radium - Iodine - Xenon - Nitrogen

Answer: Braixen

Braixen is the first evolution of Fennekin, the Fire type starter Pokémon. It has a good special attack, but is rather low on health points, normal attack and normal defence.

The artwork for Braixen is mostly yellow. It looks like a young girl in a yellow tunic and black trousers, but having cloven hoofs instead of feet and a vulpine face. Flames sprout from Braixen's ears, and in the brushy tail is a tree branch. The shiny version of Braixen is coloured purple instead of yellow.

Occasionally the Braixen would take its tree branch, ignite it and use it as a special weapon.

Being a Fire type Pokémon, Braixen has an advantage when attacking a Steel type Pokémon or an Ice type Pokémon, but it is vulnerable to attacks by Rock type Pokémon.

You can't find wild Braixen in Kalos - you need to evolve a Fennekin to obtain a Braixen.
3. Flerovium - Oxygen - Roentgenium - Einsteinium

Answer: Florges

Florges is a Fairy type Pokémon - a type that was introduced only in "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y". Florges exists only as a female and is nicknamed the Garden Pokémon. The base for a Florges is a Flabébé, which can evolve at level 19 into a Floette and then (by use of the Shiny Stone) into a Florges.

The artwork for a Florges is inspired by a tulip, but the stem is drawn as a slender woman. Florges can come in red, yellow, orange, blue and white versions (the colour of the flower), but this does not affect gameplay. I don't really like the colours of a shiny Florges: there the stem and leaves of the tulip are purple instead of green.

Florges has quite reasonable stats, and excellent special defence.

Being a Fairy type Pokémon, Florges is at an advantage when attacking a Dragon type Pokémon, while this Dragon on the other hand has not a single attack that can harm Florges.

As it is an evolution of the original Flabébé, you won't encounter a wild Florges.
4. Protactinium - Nitrogen - Carbon - Hydrogen - Americium

Answer: Pancham

The Pancham is a Fighting type Pokémon. Pancham is nicknamed the Playful Pokémon, a name it doesn't like at all.

The artwork for Pancham is inspired on a not fully grown giant panda, chewing on a green leaf, and dressed in a grey coverall. A shiny version exists, with almost exactly the same colours.

Pancham can evolve to a Pangoro at level 32, but only if its owner also has a Dark type Pokémon with him or her.

Overall the Pancham has moderate stats, but it is rather slow. Its normal attack is reasonably good, but its special attack and special defence have to be improved before you take on serious adversaries.

Fighting type Pokémon such as the Pancham have an advantage when attacking a Steel type Pokémon, but they have weak defences against Psychic type Pokémon.

You can find some wild Pancham along Route 5 in "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y".
5. Carbon - Lanthanum - Uranium - Nitrogen - Carbon - Hydrogen - Erbium

Answer: Clauncher

Clauncher is the Water Gun Pokémon. In comparison to Froakie, the Water type starter, Clauncher is slightly better in defence stats (normal defence and special defence) but much slower.

The artwork for Clauncher is basically a blue lobster, with black bands on the tail and on the pincher. The shiny version of a Clauncher is red instead of blue.

At level 37 Clauncher can evolve to a Clawitzer. The nickname for a Clauncher is derived from its typical attack move: its pincher spouts a concentrated ray of water to the target, with such force that it can take down flying Pokémon and even damage rock at very confined quarters.

In "Pokémon X" you may find a wild Clauncher near Route 8 or in Cyllage City and Ambrette Town. In "Pokémon Y" however the Clauncher is not an endemic species, you'd have to trade it with another game.
6. Helium - Lithium - Oxygen - Lithium - Sulphur - Potassium

Answer: Heliolisk

The Heliolisk is an Electric/Normal type Pokémon, so it combines the strengths and weaknesses of these two types. For the attack, it does not help a lot to combine these two types, because the Normal type Pokémon has no advantage against any type. On the other hand, combining the defence stats does not especially harm, because the Normal type Pokémon is only extra vulnerable against a Fighting type Pokémon, and the Electric type Pokémon has other weaknesses.

The artwork for the Heliolisk is based upon the Jesus basilisk (the lizard that can run over water), mostly yellow with addition of orange (tail, bands around the thighs) and dark grey (head, tip of tail). In the shiny version the yellow and orange are switched.

Heliolisk is a fast Pokémon with very good stats for special attack and special defence. It is nicknamed the Generator Pokémon. Heliolisk is an evolution of the Helioptile, and this evolution is the only way to obtain a Heliolisk - you can't find them in the wild.
7. Americium - Gold - Radium

Answer: Amaura

The Amaura is a Rock/Ice type Pokémon. Amaura is nicknamed the Tundra Pokémon and can be found (in "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y") in Ambrette Town. In "Pokémon Alpha Ruby" and "Pokémon Omega Sapphire" however it lurks in Rustboro City.

Combining Rock type and Ice type gives a great advantage when attacking a Flying type Pokémon: both the Rock and the Ice inflict double damage to a Flying type Pokémon, and when combining you have to multiply. So the Amaura inflicts four times as much damage to a Fletchling compared to attacking a Helioptile. On the other hand, a Rock/Ice type is four times as vulnerable against a Steel type Pokémon.

The artwork for the Amaura is based upon a very young and playful Apatosaurus, light blue in colour with a diamond on its flank. The shiny version replaces the blue with white.

Amaura can evolve during night time into Aurorus, at level 39.
8. Carbon - Argon - Bismuth - Nitrogen - Potassium

Answer: Carbink

Carbink, nicknamed the Jewel Pokémon, is one of the few Pokémon without a gender. It is a combined Rock/Fairy type Pokémon, with no cumulated advantages when attacking, but extra vulnerable to an attack by a Steel type Pokémon.

The artwork for Carbink is a grey rock, roughly pyramidal in shape, on its tip, with several white ice crystals. The face (also greyish) is partly hidden behind a very large white moustache. On top it carries a white stone, with which it can shoot luminous beams to other Pokémon. In its shiny version, the white is replaced by light blue.

Carbink has very basic stats, but for the defence (normal defence and special defence) - in those two categories it has the highest starting stat of all Pokémon in Generation 6.

Carbink doesn't evolve at all. It can be found in the Reflection Cave in "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y".
9. Nitrogen - Oxygen - Iodine - Boron - Astatine

Answer: Noibat

Noibat is a Flying/Dragon type Pokémon. This Sound Wave Pokémon has very low stats overall (total 245 compared to minimum 307 for a starter Pokémon) - in Generation 6, there are only a few Pokémon with lower stats.

As a Flying/Dragon type Pokémon, Noibat has no accumulated advantages. But it is extremely vulnerable to an Ice type Pokémon.

The artwork for a Noibat is based on a bat with gigantic ears, on the whole coloured purple (and dressed, you'd never guess, in two grey leafs on the hips). In the shiny version the purple is replaced with artificial green.

In "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" some wild Noibat can be found in Terminus Cave or near Victory Road.
10. Hydrogen - Oxygen - Oxygen - Protactinium

Answer: Hoopa

The Hoopa is one of the most intriguing Pokémon in Generation 6. In fact, there are two different emanations of the Hoopa: the Hoopa confined and the Hoopa unbound - but both carry the same Pokédex number and are thus essentially the same Pokémon.

The Hoopa confined is nicknamed the Mischief Pokémon. Its artwork reminds me of a levitating woman in Gypsy clothing, with grey skin, carrying a large golden hula-hoop. (However the Hoopa is a genderless Pokémon). It uses the hula-hoop to send objects to a secret storage far away. In the shiny version, the skin is golden instead of grey.

The Hoopa confined combines the Psychic type with the Ghost type. As such it has no combined advantages, but is super vulnerable to attacks by a Dark type Pokémon or a Ghost type Pokémon.

Hoopa confined has very high stats - only a few legendary Pokémon have even better stats.

Hoopa unbound (aka the Djinn Pokémon) combines the Psychic type with the Dark type. Its artwork resembles a ceremonial samurai armour, with detached arms (and even five of them - it reminds me of the Hindu gods Brahma and Shiva) carrying golden hula-hoops.

Unbound the Hoopa has even higher stats than confined, with the greatest advance in normal attack. Only the complete form of the Zygarde outsmarts a Hoopa unbound on the total stats.

The Hoopa unbound is especially vulnerable to attacks by a Bug type Pokémon. But in Generation 6 the Bug type Pokémon are usually quite weak.

Both Hoopa are event-driven, they don't have a specific location where you can look for them.
