Finding Foes in "Super Mario World" Quiz
With more foes than ever before, Mario has his work cut out for him in "Super Mario World" (SNES). All you need to do is identify the levels in which you can find ten common and not-so-common enemies. Good luck!

Found solely in Vanilla Ghost House and Valley Ghost House, the Big Bubble is a large, green orb that floats around the stages in predetermined paths, forcing Mario to maneuver and navigate around the hazards they create. Otherwise see-through, these bubbles share a similar size to the Big Boos Mario will also face in these areas, the difference being that the Boos will only move when Mario has his back turned while these continue on unabated no matter where Mario is looking.
2. Hothead
Answer: Wendy's Castle
Often found accompanying Lil Sparkies, Hotheads are massive balls of hot energy that move slowly around platforms in two of the game's levels-- Wendy's Castle at the end of Chocolate Island, and the Front Door of Bowser's Castle towards the end of the game. Though Mario can defeat them with a star, there's no other way to touch these and get away unscathed.
3. Torpedo Tube
Answer: Soda Lake
The only level you'll find these large, immovable enemies is in Soda Lake, an underwater level smack-dab in the middle of the map beneath Cheese Bridge Area, and they're notable if only because they're the spawning points of another rare enemy, Torpedo Ted. Torpedo Ted is one of the many difficult-to-kill foes from the water levels of the game, and their heartiness (and size) will force Mario to maneuver the water quickly to avoid being in their straight-line paths. Visually, the Torpedo Tube is distinct because of its skull-and-crossbones warning symbol.
4. Rip Van Fish
Answer: Donut Secret 1
Another underwater enemy, Rip Van Fish actually shows up in a number of underwater levels of the game, but in this quiz, Donut Secret 1 is the first and only suitable option for placement. Although Mario will encounter straight-line-pathing Blurps and set-pathed Cheeps in most underwater levels, Rip Van Fish is the frantic killer, appearing as a sleeping non-threat until Mario gets close enough to wake it up and spurn it into action.
This enemy will take an erratic path to get to Mario, so careful evasion is necessary, and if Mario is fast enough at getting far away, the creature might even fall back to sleep.
5. Blargg
Answer: Vanilla Dome 3
Only found in lava, and generally only in the Vanilla Dome stages (save for Chocolate Secret), Blargg is a dinosaur-like creature that will forewarn of its attack by peaking above the surface below and then rising up with a loud roar. Generally, these creatures will only show up when Mario is traversing lava on a low, moving platform, so if he's able to make a small hop in those moments, he'll get away unscathed.
6. Magikoopa
Answer: Lemmy's Castle
Though these magical foes can be quite frustrating to encounter, you can use them-- at least more than most other enemies-- to push onward to success. In Lemmy's Castle, for instance, you'll need to let Magikoopas let off their magic spells to grant you access to the proper path through the early part of the level. If their magic blast hits a spinning tile, it'll turn it into another foe. Magikoopas also appear in Larry's Castle near the end of the game but do not, otherwise, appear in a non-castle level.
7. Wiggler
Answer: Forest of Illusion 1
Only appearing in two levels of "Super Mario World", Wiggler makes a debut to the game series here, in the Forest of Illusion 1 (though it reappears in one of the Special Zone levels). Unkillable unless you have a hungry Yoshi on-hand, a star, or a shell, Wiggler will move slowly across the ground until it's stepped on, sending it into an irate frenzy that increases its speed as it moves in for the attack. Wigglers would become a Mario standard in terms of enemies from this game onward.
8. Chainsaw
Answer: Cheese Bridge Area
Although they can also be found in one of the levels of the endgame Special Zone, Chainsaws are generally only seen in one level of the main map, the Cheese Bridge Area crossing between stages three and four as you head towards Ludwig's Castle. Mario will need to avoid these as they travel along the platform lines across the stage, and there's no real way to defeat them. You can, however, use your spin attack to bounce off the top of them or, alternatively, step on them with Yoshi protecting you.
They are otherwise unstoppable. Stay clear.
9. Fishin' Boo
Answer: Choco-Ghost House
Although Mario will encounter a Fishin' Lakitu earlier in the game, Mario only encounters Fishin' Boo once in "Super Mario World", in the first half of the Choco-Ghost House.
Fishin' Lakitu is bit nefarious. Only appearing in Forest of Illusion 4, it'll keep a 1-Up Mushroom on the end of its line and, when it's claimed, it'll start tossing Spinies down on Mario until you're out of its range.
Fishin' Boo is different-- he'll keep a ball of blue fire at the end of his line, so you'll need to be conscious of your jumps and height on the level to avoid getting burned. Fishin' Lakitu can be defeated; Fishin' Boo can not.
10. Sumo Brother
Answer: Cookie Mountain
Sumo Bros. aren't often seen in the "Mario" universe, but they do debut in this game, appearing on Cookie Mountain in the fourth stage of the game (near Cheese Bridge Area). Generally only found on top of rows of blocks, Sumo Bros will strike down on the ground and cause a shockwave of fire to ripple out from the spaces below their platform. Mario can throw items at them, hit them while invincible, or bump them from below to knock them down.
